Gaze upon the iconic majesty of Petra s famous Treasury and tour the Rose Red City at your leisure, before striking out into the desert to explore the beautifully haunting landscapes of Wadi Rum. After camping out under the desert stars you ll then turn north, towards to the saline waters of the Dead Sea and the little visited mosaics of Al Rasas. ITINERARY DAY 1: AMMAN On arrival at Amman airport transfer to your hotel. DAY 2: AMMAN - JERASH - AMMAN This morning head north, driving to the spectacular Roman ruins of Jerash, for a tour of this archaeological site. The city's many monuments still retain the atmosphere of the once thriving metropolis. Return to Amman where you will enjoy a half-day tour of the city including the Citadel, Temple of Hercules, Ummayad Palace and Roman Theatre. Stroll around Amman's crowded streets, souks and markets and sample some of Jordan's best street food. (B) DAY 3: AMMAN - MADABA - KERAK - PETRA Drive south on the Kings' Highway, one of the oldest roads in the world, to Mount Nebo, where Moses viewed the Promised Land before he died. Next visit the small town of Madaba, famous for its Christian church of St George, and then explore El Kerak Crusader Castle. Continue to Petra. (B) DAY 4: PETRA Hidden deep in Jordan's southern mountains, Petra is carved directly into the rock and is one of the great historical treasures of the Middle East. Entry is through a narrow siq (gorge) and your local guide will take you through the city explaining the history and the origins behind the monuments. (B) DAY 5: PETRA Today is free for you to explore the ancient Nabatean city further, perhaps climb up to the High Place of Sacrifice or take in the views from the Monastery. In the evening why not try the Petra Kitchen cooking class (Optional). (B)
DAY 6: PETRA - WADI RUM Leaving Petra strike into the desert of Wadi Rum in a 4WD jeep. With sheer sandstone cliffs and multi-coloured shifting sands this beautiful area is steeped in history and along the way the 4WDs will stop for you to appreciate the desert silence and examine the remains of ancient settlements. Stay overnight in Wadi Rum. (B,L,D) DAY 7: WADI RUM - DEAD SEA Today drive north from Wadi Rum. En route stop at Al Rasas to see the mosaics which are as fine as the ones at Madaba but much less visited. The afternoon is free at the Dead Sea for you to enjoy the hotel facilities and float in the waters. (B) DAY 8: DEAD SEA - AMMAN AIRPORT This morning transfer to the airport for your return flight.
