Italy - Walking Along the Amalfi Coast 2018 Individual Self-Guided Hiking Tour 8 days / 7 nights 2 different programs to discover the Amalfi Coast, Naples, Pompeii, the Vesuvius Naples and its surroundings is one of the most important cradles of Italian culture and history: Romans and Greeks were here long before the flourishing of the Baroque palaces and churches of Spaccanapoli. From ancient age to the Romantic period, all major artists felt at some point attracted by the charm of this region. Travellers visiting this area are no exception to this feeling of awe and fascination, being captured by the richness of the artistic treasures, the mildness of the climate and the beauty of the nature and landscape. In contrast with this Dolce Vita, the eruptions of the Vesuvius, the volcanic phenomena of the Phlegrean Fields and the frequent earthquakes pushed the population towards a perceived proximity to the world of the dead and to Gods themselves. It is also thanks to the rage of the volcano if we can visit Pompeii today, as this unique example of ancient times was buried in ashes in 79 AD. Heading southward, we discover Amalfi, the first Maritime Republic of Italy, a city that played a great role in the trade with the Orient and then in the transport of Crusaders. Enchanted by the lovely climate and the beauty of nature, many artists and princes commissioned the construction of their sumptuous villas along this stretch of coast, especially in Ravello. Towards the end of our hiking, as an extension of the peninsula, we encounter Capri, always delighting us with its beauty.
