Hit the ground during a toss bomb manoeuvre on the Guyra Meat Works. High wind, snowing and after dark. A/C was a 1SQN Jet. The A/C had accrued 4471.6 AFHRs at the time of acceptance by Aircrew. Aircraft no longer in the RAAF inventory - Crashed at Evans Head, NSW, on 29 September, 1977, impacting the ground 16.1 kms from the range. Crash was due to at least three Bird strikes. Ejection was initiated, however failed to save the crew. Most of the wreckage was buried on site. FLT Noordink was a pilot under training. RAAF AIRCRAFT (6SQN). Aircraft no longer in the RAAF inventory - Crashed at Armidale, NSW on 28 April, 1977. Crash was due to Air Duct failure through fatigue cracking. Pilot: USAF Exchange Pilot Capt Bill Baker (Billy Bang out) Nav: FLTLT David Allan Clarkson A/C crashed one Klm off the New England Highway 24 k NE of Armidale. RAAF TAIL NO: A8-137 USAF SERIAL NUMBER: A8-137 NOTES: RAAF AIRCRAFT. Aircraft no longer in the RAAF inventory - Crashed at RNZAF Base, Ohakea on 24 August, 1979. Crash was due to water ingestion from a wet runway on take off, which caused a double compression stall. Pilot: FLGOFF KELLY Navigator: FLTLT CURR DATE CRASHED: 24/08/1979 LOCATION: Ohakea, NZ GD S/N: 13 RAAF TAIL NO: A8-139 USAF SERIAL NUMBER: A8-139 NOTES: RAAF AIRCRAFT. Aircraft no longer in the RAAF inventory - Crashed at Moruya, NSW (off coast) on 28 January 1986. Cause unknown. Lost at sea. A8-139 impacted the water whilst flying a simulated Harpoon profile. RAAF TAIL NO: A8-141 USAF SERIAL NUMBER: A8-141 NOTES: RAAF AIRCRAFT. Aircraft no longer in the RAAF inventory - Crashed into the sea 26.5 nm from Whenuapai Island and near the peninsular town of Coromandel. A/C took off from RNZAF Base, Ohakea on 25 October, 1978. Crash was due to bleed air leak and fire in the Main Wheel Well. Crew ejected and survived the crash. The module landed in the water in the Hauraki Gulf. Pilot: WGCDR D.N. ROGERS Navigator: FLTLT P. GROWDER DATE CRASHED: 25/10/1978 LOCATION: Ohakea, NZ GD S/N: 17 RAAF TAIL NO: A8-143 USAF SERIAL NUMBER: A8-143 NOTES: RAAF AIRCRAFT. (Recon) Aircraft suffered a full wheels up crash landing at Amberley RAAF Base on 18/7/06. Both crew survived unhurt - they remained with the aircraft. The aircraft lost a Main Wheel on takeoff. 1SQN Aircraft Call sign COLT TWO Loss of Main Wheel on takeoff. Aircraft landed taking the arrestor hook cable wheels up. RAAF TAIL NO: A8-291 USAF SERIAL NUMBER: 68-291 NOTES: Originally built for STRATEGIC AIR COMMAND (SAC). Converted to F111G on 1/7/91. This A/C was transferred to the RAAF inventory as A8-291. The Aircraft crashed into Pulau Air Island (South China Sea) on 19 April 1999 during exercises off Butterworth. Both the crew were killed.
