Day 1 - Kandy You will be met at the airport and an approx. 4 hour drive will take you to the cultural capital, Kandy to rest before the trek. During the afternoon, you will be able to take a relaxing stroll around the scenic Kandy Lake, in the heart of the city, and visit the beautiful Peredeniya Botanical Gardens. In the evening, soak up the cultural spirit of this sacred city by visiting the Temple of the Tooth, Sri Lanka s most important Buddhist temple and marvel at the skill and agility of the famous Kandyan dancers in the spectacular cultural show. Day 2 - Ramboda An early morning start following a short trek brief, you will leave Kandy and drive to Ramboda (approx. 1 1/2 hours) to start your trek. You will trek to the spectacular Ramboda waterfalls (109m high) and through the majestic forest of Piduruthlagala (mountain peak) the highest mountain forest reserve in Sri Lanka, 2524m above sea level. Arriving late afternoon in the heart of the hill country, Nurwara Eliya, 1868m above sea level, with its perfectly manicured tea estates. Named Little England in colonial times for its salubrious climate. Evening is the perfect time to see this city of lights with its breath taking views. Day 3 - Nurwara Eliya After spending the night in Nurwara Eliya you will start your day with the best ever train journey through the clouds. The train takes approx. 3 hours as it passes over many mountain ranges, the stunning scenery and the tea pickers at work will keep you glued until you arrive in Ella the little paradise village of the hill country. Your challenge today is to climb both little Adams Peak and Ella Rock which stands 1000 metres above sea level and has an awesome view of the hill country! Here you will stay in what was originally a tea planter s bungalow with an incredible vista and poignant memories of colonial times dotting the walls.
Day 4 - Ella Today your trek will take you through the famous Lipton s tea estate and your challenge is to reach Lipton s seat the place where Sir Thomas Lipton would sit and admire his tea empire. It is well worth the climb! Your reward is a visit to the tea factory to find out how the famous Ceylon tea is produced and of course to sample. You will continue your trek along the old railway track to the iconic nine arch bridge, commissioned in 1921 in the British Colonial period. The bridge in the sky is aptly named due to its sheer height of 99 ft and location 3100 feet above sea level. Finally, you will reach the quaint railway station of Haputale spectacularly situated in the hill country. A well deserved dip in the cool waters at Rawana Caves and waterfall will be a perfect end to your day. Day 5 - Haputale An early morning trek to worlds end is a must before the spectacular view is obscured by a wall of white mist. It s a sheer cliff with a drop of 1,200m and from here you ll spy toy-town, tea-plantation villages in the valley below, and on a clear day the Indian Ocean! Onwards to Baker s Falls and then a well-earned breakfast! Afterwards you will continue your trek through the beautiful, silent and strange world of Hortons Plain, in the shadows of Sri Lanka s second- and third-highest mountains, Kirigalpotta (2395m) and Totapola (2359m). From misty lakes, grasslands, rocky outcrops and patches of thick forest with the abundance of wild life this diverse landscape offers a day s trekking full of surprises! Day 6 - Kitugala A short trek to Kitugala river, where the bridge on the river Kwai was filmed, and its rainforest adventure day where you can take your boots off and put your helmet on! Kitugala is one of the wettest places in the hill country and perfect for White Water rafting, kayaking or canyoning if you dare! Otherwise trek the jungle trial to see the red bananas growing and the mischievous monkeys in Kituluga rain forest. After lunch a drive to Adams Peak and a rest afternoon before your final ascent at dawn.
Day 7 - Adams Peak Your final challenge is a dawn ascent and 5,200 crumbling steps to see the magnificent Adams Peak sunrise rise over the majestic mountains. Leaving in the dark about 3am, it will take you 2-4 hours to reach the summit, depending on how often you stop for tea at the many tea shops en route. You will be surrounded by pilgrims as you wind your way up the sacred mountain Sri Pada, going up isn t too bad, coming down is hard on the knees! But this is you final trek day so go for it! Grab a delicious local breakfast on your way down the mountain and catch up on your sleep en route to Udawalwa National Park. This is an amazing opportunity to take a jeep safari and get up close and personal to the families of wild elephants that live there. Afterwards, a drive back to spend your very last night and have dinner on the famous Unawatuna beach, rated one of the the top ten in the world! Day 8 - Rosie May Home Spend the morning relaxing on this stunning beach you deserve it! In the afternoon, see exactly how your fundraising is being used by visiting the Rosie May Foundation projects and find out how you are making a difference to help children in crisis in Sri Lanka. A beach BBQ in the evening to reminisce with new found friends, will be the perfect ending to this challenge of a lifetime you will never forget. Extend your trip!
