All witnessed many civilizations through history: the Romans in 64 BC, the Crusaders in early 12th c., the Shehab Emirs between 1172 and 1860, and the Ottomans in the 17th c. Ain Harcha Temple (113 or 114 B.C.) One of the best preserved temples of Mt Hermon. Mount Hermon (known as Jabal El Sheikh) It is the Sacred Mountain for many civilizations in the region. Jabal el Sheikh was mentioned in the Gospels, Mark 8:1, and elsewhere, when describing the scene of the Transfiguration of the Christ. Climbing the mountain from Rashaya side is a wonderful journey through scenic groves, vineyards and wild slopes. Silver Making, Needlework & Sculpture Rashaya s known for its crafts since ancient times: needlework, glass painting (in Hilweh), sculpture, gold and silver jewelry making. The very few silver artists have kept designs from the Byzantine styles. Visitors can watch them at work, in the old souk of Rashaya el Wadi. Goat Milk Derivative Products. Rashaya s famous for its agriculture and food products especially the goat milk derivative products:cheese, labneh, & keshek. Honey French colonists described Mt Hermon as the Mountain of a thousand flowers because of the diversity of its wild plants and flowers, many of which are known for their medicinal properties. The great bee breeding and the knowhow of local beekeepers have contributed to producing one of the best honey in Lebanon.
