1. SOKOLNIKI CONGRESS VENUE Location: Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre is one of Moscow s venues to host exhibitions and conferences. It is located in East Administrative District directly in Sokolniki Park for Leisure and Recreation. It is one of the oldest exhibition sites and the first to start exhibition industry in Russia. The complex consists of 10 pavillions that meet the highest international standards, with a total area of 27,300 square metres. Address: 7/1,5-iy Luchevoy prosek, Moscow, Russia HISTORY The Sokolniki Park, where today Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre holds its events, has long been a cult place of rest for Muscovites. As early as the 15th century Sokolniki was already considered a preserve forest area used only for the royal falconry. The powerful Russian tsars like Ivan the Terrible, Alexey Mikhailovich and Peter the Great loved to spend their free time in Sokolniki. By the end of the 19th century a park was founded in the huge forest that used to be here. Later it became one of the most famous parks in Moscow. Sokolniki was a true home to many legendary personalities. The park inspired the great opera singer Fyodor Chaliapin, such famous artists as Alexey Savrasov and Isaak Levitan, who devoted many of their beautiful oeuvres to Sokolniki. Another interesting fact is that, the Levitan s painting "Autumn Day. Sokolniki" is the property of the State Tretyakov Gallery. A new era for Sokolniki began in 1959. That time proved to be decisive in the development of exhibition industry in our country. A golden dome was built in the park along with exhibition pavilions around it. The first event to be held at the new exhibition and convention centre was the American National Exhibition. That s when Pavilion 2 witnessed the legendary "kitchen debate" between Richard Nixon and Nikita Khrushchev. Since then, exhibitions received a permanent residence in Sokolniki, and the centre became the most renowned in Russia. Today Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre is an international centre for business and leisure. The complex s infrastructure meets the highest international standards. At different times Sokolniki hosted the largest international exhibitions and conferences which left their mark on the exhibition history of the venue. Annually Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre launches new projects and holds the events well-known and loved by Muscovites, such as the International Exhibition of Calligraphy, Festival of Pregnant Women WANEXPO, NAMM Musikmesse Russia, Equiros, Craft Formula, and many others. In 2016 Sokolniki Exhibition and Convention Centre held more than 230 different themed events, including conferences, exhibitions, festivals, and various forums. 3. EXCURSION SUGGESTIONS Sightseeing tour Duration 4-5 hours Moscow city tour is a perfect opportunity to explore the city and to see how it is huge and beautiful. During the tour you will visit all the most significant sights as Red Square and St. Basil s Cathedral, the Cathedral of Christ the Savior and the Novodevichy Monastery. You will drive along the embankment of the Moscow River with a view of the Kremlin and the Sparrow Hills. It is possible to take a picture of the sights during a special stop. The Moscow Kremlin Duration 3-5 hours Kremlin is the oldest part of the city, the main socio-political, spiritual, religious, historical and artistic complex of the capital, the official residence of the President of the Russian Federation. The Museum «Moscow Kremlin» includes the Patriarch s Palace and the Church of the Twelve Apostles, where you can see different things Appliances Patriarchs. The same can be said of the Tsar Cannon. Kremlin Armory Duration 4-6 hours There is a great variety of Kremlin Museums, but the most famous among them is the Moscow Armory. This world famous treasure-house, its treasure vividly recreates history of the Russian state. One of the main results of scientific and practical activities of the Main Botanical Garden is to create the richest country in the collections of plants and greenhouse. The taxonomic composition of these collections indicates the degree of efficacy of various methods of selection of the starting material for introduction into the middle zone of European Russia and the methods of cultivation of plants of different origin. Collections are the primary basis of research in the field of plant introduction, is a unique collection of flora gene pool. They play an important role in conducting basic research in taxonomy, evolution, biochemistry and physiology of plant adaptation to biotic and abiotic environmental factors. Mission Control Center (Korolev, Moscow region) Duration up to 6 hours Mission Control Center (MCC) of Federal Space Agency is the largest and most prominent research unit. MCC was established 50 years ago, October 3, 1960, Control of the spacecraft, including International Space Station, is conducted from Mission Control Center. Guests can visit Mission Control Center (MCC) and even participate in the session with the ISS (International Space Station). It is the unique place where guests will visit the hall where the legendary space station Mir was controlled for 15 years and will watch a fascinating video about the life of astronauts in orbit. 7
