Parma Parma is a small city in Northern Italy. It has a population of about 195.000 people. The weather is temperate and often the summer is very hot. Parma is a city founded by the Romans, even if the area was inhabited since the bronze age. Parma has many interesting ancient churches. For example, the marvellous cathedral with its wonderful dome painted by the Renaissance painter Correggio. Next to the cathedral you can visit the Baptistery. Not very far from the Baptistery there is the biggest civil Renaissance building: Palazzo della Pilotta. Inside there is the gorgeous wooden Farnese Theatre and the appealing National Gallery. Parma was also an important commercial hub for its position on Via Emilia. During the Renaissance period the city was ruled by the Farnese Dukes that made 8

the city become known for its art and music. In the middle of Parma you can walk through the green area of Parco Ducale. Parma is also wellknown for its culinary and wine traditions such as the unique Parma Ham, the valuable and expensive culatello and the incomparable Parmesan cheese. To book a vacation in Parma you can contact the various incoming travel agencies that offer tailor-made packages for different customer targets. The package includes: transport, accommodation, restaurant, guided tours, events such as theatre or exhibitions. The package price is the result of specific costs plus the mark-up, that is, the percentage of charge that the agency applies to the packages. 9
