Cross Bearing Adventures CAMPER S ADVENTURE PLANNER Are You Ready For The Adventure Of A Lifetime? Thank you for joining Cross Bearing Adventures for the trip of a lifetime! We seek to create a week filled with fun and challenging experiences that will change your life! Whether it is climbing to the top a 14,000-foot mountain, rafting a raging river, or rappelling down a 160-foot cliff, our goal will be to allow God to speak to us through each and every moment, no matter how intense! As we seek to navigate our way through this life with all its spiritual deserts, mountains, forests, and valleys, our only hope for finding the right course is to orient our compass to the Cross of Jesus Christ and take our bearing on Him. He alone is the True North in this difficult journey called life. If our focus is on Him, we will not lose our way as we travel through the challenges of life towards an intimate relationship with our God! This is what Cross Bearing Adventures is all about! Are you ready to join us for a LIFE-CHANGING week? Well, this planner is designed to help you get ready! It covers everything from what to pack before you come, to what to expect when you finally get here. Please do not wait until the last minute to read over each section in detail! Some of the items you will need to bring may require a trip to the doctor s office or the outdoor store etc. You may need to give yourself enough time to break in a new pair of hiking boots (You definitely WON T want to break them in on a steep mountain trail!). The best way to set yourself up for success at Cross Bearing Adventures is to come prepared - body, mind, and spirit - for the great things God wants to do while you are here! I. What to Bring On the next page, you will find a comprehensive checklist of essential items to bring when you come to Colorado Springs this summer. The checklist is broken down into three categories: Clothing, Gear, and Forms. If you use this list as a basic guide for your adventure preparation, you will be well on your way to a successful summer experience with Cross Bearing Adventures! A. Essential Clothing and Gear Your first adventure will be packing for the unpredictable Colorado weather that awaits you! It is not unusual to experience delightful 80-degree temperatures within minutes of a raging hailstorm on a typical afternoon in Colorado Springs! In the course of a mountain climb, the temperatures can vary from the low 40 s to the high 80 s depending on the altitude and the position of the sun. The keys to

surviving these fluctuations are: 1. Dress in LAYERS and, 2. Always be prepared for the worst (Have a rain jacket or poncho on hand at all times!). You are strongly encouraged to bring along a fanny pack and /or backpack to accommodate your changing wardrobe throughout our activities. You will also be required to carry your own water each day and, at 7000+ feet above sea level, you ll need lots of it! As you pack your clothing, please keep in mind that our week will be centered on glorifying God in all we do and say and how we dress! Please pack modestly- no bikinis, short shorts, half-shirts, or tank tops. CBA Packing Checklist CLOTHING Got it! B. Required Permission and Release Forms Because of the adventurous nature of our activities at Cross Bearing Adventures, it is important that both you and your guardians are aware of the dangers associated with your week in Colorado Springs. While our staff members are highly trained to do absolutely everything within their power to ensure the safety of each and every camper, there is no way that we can foresee or prevent every possible injurious scenario. In order to make sure that you and your guardians understand this, and also to minimize the chance of any preventable injuries or illnesses, there are certain documents that must be signed before campers can participate in the activities we have planned. For legal and safety reasons, any camper that does not have the necessary forms completed and submitted before his or her arrival at Cross Bearing Adventures, will be prevented from participating in these adventure activities. To avoid missing out in this way, PLEASE take the time to review each form thoroughly and submit them with all the necessary signatures by the deadline appointed by your Leader. II. What You Can Expect from Cross Bearing Adventures A. Lodging Your group will be staying in large canvas tents set up on wood platforms. Girls and guys will be in different tents holding 24 campers each. Inside the tent, you will be sleeping on bunk beds. These beds have wooden frames and are padded with 4 uninsulated mattresses. You are encouraged to bring a sleeping pad to put under your sleeping bag at night. We have warm showers and flushing toilets but no electricity in either the tents or the bathhouses! Flashlights are essential for bathroom runs at night! B. Food We take pride in our meals at Cross Bearing Adventures and we think you are going to enjoy eating with us! If you come expecting a typical camp food menu, you are going to be pleasantly surprised by the incredible home-cooked meals and great snacks that our kitchen staff lovingly prepares in order to keep you running from one adventure to the next! Just bring an appetite. If you have any food allergies, please email them and note them on your health forms for our cooks. We will try accommodate you! C. Safety and Medical Care

Safety is our first concern!! We maintain a safe environment throughout every phase of our adventure activities. The staff is specially trained and ready to address any apprehensions or special needs our campers may have. In case of an emergency, the group will be accompanied by a person trained in Emergency Response and equipped with the necessary first aid supplies at all times. Prescription drugs will be handled and distributed only by trained staff. The first step to maintaining a safe environment at altitudes like those we will be experiencing is to DRINK LOTS OF WATER! This is why it is absolutely essential that each camper bring a heavy-duty reusable water bottle. We will be pumping liquids all day every day! D. High Adventure with Spiritual Parallels. At Cross Bearing Adventures, you will be engaged in activities that will challenge and thrill you! Our goal is to connect High Adventure with Spiritual Challenge. Just as your wits are tested, so will your heart be motivated to seek. Every event has been carefully selected for its potential to develop a deeper intimacy with your Savior Jesus Christ. Our adventures will consist of: Low and High Ropes Courses, Hiking, Rappelling, Rock Climbing, Whitewater Rafting, and a 14,000ft Peak Climb. Check us out on Facebook!! III. What Cross Bearing Adventures Expects from YOU: Now that you know what you can expect from Cross Bearing Adventures, we would like to highlight a few important things that we will expect from you. In order to preserve a safe and God-honoring environment, we will require all campers to conduct themselves at all times in a way that respects the following guidelines: A. Safety is a crucial component to each day at CBA. Therefore, directions will be given that must be followed strictly. There can be NO unnecessary risk taking or goofing around which might cause injury emotionally, physically or spiritually to self or others. Please listen closely to all safety briefings and activity instructions. B. Alcohol and drugs are strictly prohibited on camp property and during all of the Cross Bearing Adventure events of the week! Students who choose to partake of these substances at any time during the week, whether at the base camp or at any other activity location, will be sent home at their guardian s expense. C. All campers will be required to stay within the boundaries of the base camp except when leaving for scheduled adventure activities under adult supervision. D. Quiet hours at CBA will be respectfully observed from 9:00 p.m. to 7:00 a.m. daily. E. For the ultimate purpose of total team building, we do not permit students to date during their week in Colorado. We are asking that all couples make a commitment to focus on the group rather than each other during their week at Cross Bearing Adventures. F. In the interest of our goal to allow God to speak to us through each and every moment, and in order to encourage a desire to focus solely on Him, we will ask campers to refrain from the use of IPODs, Cell phones, or electronics of any kind during their adventure week! To remove any temptation, Youth Pastors are encouraged to collect these devices upon arrival in Colorado Springs. Whatever you do, do it all for the glory of God I Cor. 10:31 IV. In Case of Emergencies at Home: For an Emergency during your week at Cross Bearing Adventures, please call CBA at: (719) 351-7691
