Unrated hotels may be too small, too new, or too remote to be listed. 20 The breathtaking wilderness of Torres del Paine includes mountains, lakes, glaciers, fjords, and ancient forest. Day 2: Arrive Puerto Montt/Puerto Varas Upon arrival in Chile s Lake District, we transfer to our hotel in Puerto Varas. The afternoon is at leisure; tonight we meet our fellow travelers and Odysseys Unlimited Tour Director at a briefing about the journey ahead, followed by a welcome dinner. D Day 3: Vicente Rosales National Park Today we set out on a full-day excursion through stunning Vicente Rosales National Park, set almost entirely in the Andes and covering nearly 1,000 square miles. We see the Petrohué Waterfalls, where surging whitewater plunges over black volcanic rock, and regal Osorno Volcano in the distance, a snow-capped cone that has been compared to Japan s Mount Fuji. This afternoon we travel to a ranch in the nearby town of Alerce to meet Chilean cowboys and watch as they demonstrate their rodeo skills. Tonight we enjoy a traditional asado-style barbecue dinner at the ranch. B,L,D Day 4: Puerto Varas/Calbuco We travel this morning to the small maritime town of Calbuco, situated on an island in one of southern Chile s many fjords. We see a mussel fishery then enjoy a small group highlight as we have lunch prepared by a local fisherman s family. B,L Visit us at alumni.unc.edu/travel Day 5: Puerto Varas/Punta Arenas We transfer to the airport today for the two-hour flight to Punta Arenas, capital of Chile s southernmost Magallanes Region. Upon arrival we transfer to our hotel, where we dine tonight. B,D Day 6: Punta Arenas We get a close-up view of Patagonian Chile today on our excursion to a working estancia (ranch). We visit with the local cowboys who work here and watch a sheepdog exercise to see how these amazing animals perform their important job of herding. We also see a sheep-shearing demonstration and learn how the wool is processed. Then we enjoy a traditional Patagonian asado lunch at the ranch before our return to Punta Arenas, where the remainder of the day is at leisure. B,L Day 7: Magdalena Island/Puerto Natales On our day cruise through the storied Strait of Magellan today, we have the opportunity to see for ourselves an animal that most people have only seen in captivity: the Magellanic penguin, the two-foot-tall flightless bird that numbers among the millions along the southern tip of South America. We cruise to tiny Magdalena Island, home to a colony of more than 120,000 penguins that coexist peacefully with cormorants, sea lions, and other species. We return to Punta Arenas in time for lunch before continuing our journey northward by B Breakfast; L Lunch; D Dinner

coach to Puerto Natales, gateway to Torres del Paine National Park on the shores of Última Esperanza Sound. B,L,D Day 8: Serrano and Balmaceda Glaciers We experience southern Chile s glacier region on today s excursion. Our day cruise takes us through more stunning Patagonian scenery, as we navigate between snow-capped mountains and walls of ice to reach the massive glaciers, where we enjoy fabulous views and photo opportunities. We watch as the ice seems to tumble down the mountainsides and into the bays below (and in fact often does, in a process called calving). Then we enjoy lunch at a local estancia as we return to Puerto Natales. Dinner tonight is on our own. B,L Day 9: Puerto Natales/Torres del Paine This morning we make the two-hour drive north into Torres del Paine, a breathtaking 700-squaremile national park and UNESCO reserve. After reaching our hotel and having lunch Moai on Easter Island together, we set out on a short hike; the rugged beauty of our surroundings gives us a preview of what s in store over the next two days. Tonight we dine together at our hotel, as we will throughout our stay here. B,L,D Day 10: Torres del Paine National Park Today marks our first full day in Torres del Paine, one of Post-Tour Extension November 11-15, 2018 Easter Island 3 days/3 nights for $2,195 total price Single Supplement: $495 Discover revered and remote Easter Island, home of the Rapa Nui people and their enigmatic moai statues. B,L,D Day 11: Torres del Paine National Park Our second day of exploration in the park features Laguna Amarga, Laguna Azul, and Cascade Rio Paine, along with resident wildlife. B,L,D Day 12: Torres del Paine/Santiago We trade our natural surroundings for the bustling urban heart of Chile today, as we travel by coach to Punta Arenas then board a 3.5-hour flight to the Chilean capital of Santiago. We reach our hotel early this evening; dinner tonight is on our own in this cosmopolitan city with a lively culinary scene. Smoking For the convenience of the majority of our travelers, Odysseys Unlimited has a No Smoking policy on all tour buses. We will arrange sufficient rest stops so those who wish to smoke may do so. Health and Medical Issues We welcome all travelers, but request that you be in good health to participate in an Odysseys Unlimited tour. All of our tours involve a reasonable amount of walking (typically two to three miles per day), often uphill or on uneven or cobblestone streets. You must be able to get on and off motorcoaches on your own. We regret that we cannot provide individual assistance; in such cases you must be accompanied by a companion who will assist you. Please note that our itineraries cannot accommodate wheelchairs. We reserve the right to remove anyone whose physical condition or behavior, in our opinion, compromises the operation of the tour or detracts from the enjoyment or safety of the other tour members. In that event, the UNC GAA and Odysseys Unlimited assume no financial responsibility for any unused portion of the tour. Air Transportation Odysseys Unlimited, Inc. includes in its tour price round trip economy air from designated gateway cities as shown and contracts with those airlines they feel provide the level of service, routings, and value necessary for your entire trip. While another airline may offer more direct service, it may be at a price unavailable at the lower group rates that enable us to offer you the best possible travel value. You will receive your preliminary air schedule approximately 2½ months prior to departure. Please note that seat assignments on your flight are usually done at airport check-in. Odysseys Unlimited is unable to guarantee any seat assignments. Due to the nature of tour operator tickets, other restrictions apply, including but not limited to, frequent flyer mileage accrual, stopovers, alternate travel dates, upgrades, and airline taxes and fees. If you prefer to make your own travel arrangements, booking the tour Land Only is available on most tours. Since international and domestic air schedules are subject to change at any time, we recommend that if you choose to make your own airline reservations, you do not purchase non-refundable tickets or those with high penalties for changes. In addition, we recommend that you not purchase your tickets until final payment is due. If you choose to make your own air arrangements, Odysseys Unlimited, Inc. shall not have any liability for any loss resulting from cancellation of this tour or changes in this tour. Responsibility The liability of the UNC General Alumni Association (UNC GAA), as sponsor, and Odysseys Unlimited Inc., as tour operator, is strictly limited. The UNC GAA and Odysseys Unlimited, Inc. purchase transportation, hotel accommodations, restaurant and other services from independent suppliers not under our control. We serve only as agents for these suppliers in securing tour arrangements, and therefore will not accept responsibility for wrongful, negligent, or arbitrary acts or omissions of these independent contractors, their employees, agents, servants or representatives. The UNC GAA and Odysseys Unlimited, Inc. are not liable for injury, damage, loss, accident, or delay that may be caused by events not within our control, including without limitation, acts of terrorism, war, strikes, the defect of any vehicle, or the negligence or default of any third party.
