RMCC Newsletter December, 2013 Page 2 Message from RMCC President - Ron Wheeler We'll, another year in the books with RMCC. With just the Sparks Christmas parade and Christmas party left, the year is surely winding down. We definitely had a successful year, the MCA show, poker run, progressive dinner, food delivery to Evelyn Mount, and many more. I want to also congratulate Joe Wyatt for getting accepted to the board of Hot August Nights. Many more people stepped up and volunteered this year which really helps out. Hope to see every one at the Christmas party and be prepared for a load of fun. Lastly I want to wish all a very Merry Christmas and a great new year. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - M E R R Y C H R I S T M A S

RMCC Newsletter December, 2012 Page 4 White Elephant Gift Exchange In addition to the great food and fellowship experienced at the RMCC Annual Christmas Party, members also will participate in a white elephant gift exchange. This activity has proven to be a lot of fun and usually is the highlight of the evening. For those members new to the Club, here is a summary of how RMCC members play the game. Members attending the Christmas party are asked to provide an inexpensive (< $25), wrapped gift(s) for the exchange. You get to exchange a gift for every gift you bring. Upon your arrival at the party, the gift(s) will be collected and you will be provided a playing card for each gift you brought. Humorous gifts are encouraged. In fact, the definition of a white elephant is a gift whose maintenance costs exceed its usefulness. The White Elephant exchange proceeds as follows: 1. The game host will select a card from a deck of cards. The individual holding the identical card comes forward to pick a gift from the gift table. After selecting his/her gift, this person opens a wrapped gift and his/her turn ends. 2. Another card is selected by the host from the card deck. This person chooses whether to open a wrapped gift or "steal" a previously opened gift. 3. If a person has their gift stolen, they have the option of choosing a different wrapped gift, or stealing an unwrapped one from the gift table. 4. Unwrapped gifts may only be stolen two times. After the second steal, the gift is considered frozen and can no longer be stolen. 5. The game proceeds until all members who had a playing card have either picked a gift from the gift table or stolen a gift. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Cranberry/Jell-O Salad Recipe Contributed by: Carol Hume Editor s Note: This recipe was published in last year s December newsletter. As you might suspect, a lot of work and effort goes into the creation of each issue and not all of it is performed by me. I rely heavily on other Club members like Ron Wheeler, Gary Wittmuss, Darold Roy and others for newsletter content. My wife, Judi Gesh, scours the Internet each month looking for articles and news items that might be of interest to the Club. Judi also creates the picture collages you see in Mustang Tales using event pictures sent to me from Club members, the Club s Facebook site, and the pictures Judi and I manage to take ourselves. Once the newsletter is assembled and formatted, a document draft is sent out to the proofreaders, Bonnie Moffett, Judi Gesh and Dianna Wheeler, to check the accuracy of the content and look for errors in grammar and punctuation. The Wheeler s are also responsible for distributing the newsletter each month. Without the assistance of these individuals, the newsletter would not be the quality publication that I believe it to be. Thanks gang...

RMCC Newsletter December, 2013 Page 6 50 th Anniversary Mustang Book Contributed by: Sid Gesh In celebration of the Mustang 50 th anniversary, the publishers of Quayside Motorbooks have released a new book that covers the life of the Mustang titled Mustang: Fifty Years, Celebrating Americas Only True Pony Car. I was contacted by the publisher a few months ago and asked if I would preview the book for them. In return for my review, I received a free copy of the book. And what a book it is a hard-bound, coffee table size book containing 256 pages, over 400 photographs, and covering every pony car model you can think of. After reviewing Mustang: Fifty Years, I am convinced that if you own a Mustang or are a Mustang enthusiast, you will want your own copy. The book retails for $50.00, but I found it on Amazon.com for $33.78. Wouldn t this make a great Christmas gift? The author of the book is Donald Farr. You may recognize his name as the Editor of Mustang Monthly magazine. After reviewing the book I agree with the MM November, 2013 written review that it provides a comprehensive look at the history of America s most iconic car from its conception in the early 60s to the latest 14 models. To commemorate the 50 th birthday of the Mustang, it is my intent to write a series of monthly articles about the pony car next year. I will be using the Mustang book as one of my references for these articles. Following that I will be donating the book to the RMCC to be added to the Club s trophy case at RDW. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Computer Equipment Donations Note from the Editor: I recently announced that I would be bringing my truck to the Club meetings every quarter to collect donations of computer equipment for ComputerCorps. Ron Wheeler, RMCC President and owner of RDW Automotive, has generously offered to stage the equipment at their business location until it is picked up. This means that you no longer have to wait for a Club meeting to get rid of your unused/unwanted computer equipment. Just drop it by RDW and I will get it picked up. Remember, ComputerCorps does not accept televisions.

RMCC Newsletter December, 2013 Page 7 RMCC Coffee Clutch and Food Delivery Saturday, November 16th members of the RMCC met to participate in two Club events. To start things off, twenty eight of our members gathered at RDW Automotive for the November Coffee Clutch. This is the second month this event was held and, like the October event, was well attended and enjoyed by all. Members sipped hot coffee and ate doughnuts while socializing for an hour. The Coffee Clutch was highlighted by the presentation of a Club donation and other checks and cash totaling $2,900 to the Draper family to assist with the expenses associated with the treatment of a serious illness threatening the life of their little girl, Lillian.

RMCC Newsletter December, 2013 Page 8 The Coffee Clutch was followed by our annual caravan to deliver food to the Evelyn Mount Community Outreach Program. Everyone loaded the 1,070 pounds of food the membership had donated and staged at RDW into their Mustangs (and one Falcon Sprint) for a short drive over to the Evelyn Mount collection point on Cannon Street. One by one, the member cars pulled up in front of the facility to unload the booty much to the amazement and appreciation of the Mount staff and volunteers. Giving to our community - what a great way to kick off the holiday season! These are all RMCC member cars lined up to deliver food...

RMCC Newsletter December, 2013 Page 9 Virginia City Nevada Parade Contributed by: Gary Witttmuss and Bonnie Moffett Fifteen RMCC Mustangs and around 30 Club members enjoyed a warm, sunny day and a friendly crowd as they participated in the annual Nevada Day Parade in Virginia City. We witnessed lots of flags and people waving at us and dozens of cameras going off as we moved through the city. RMCC was represented with a beautiful collection of 1965 through 2013 Pony Cars representing coupes, fastbacks, and converts with several classics up front and newer cars, including a Shelby or two, a Rousch, a GT 500, a Boss 302 and the Holman-Moody Special bringing up the rear - a very impressive collection. After the parade our members fed on hot dogs, a spaghetti dinner, pumpkin pie, wine, and coffee prepared by the Virginia City Auxiliary hosts. Gary collected enough money to cover his $50 entry fee and put the extra money into the donation jar for the food.
