REPORT FOR ACTION Use of Nathan Phillips Square for Various Events from March 1, - July 7, Date: January 31, To: Toronto and East York Community Council From: Chief Corporate Officer Wards: All SUMMARY The purpose of this report is to request various exemptions from the Municipal Code Chapter 237 Nathan Phillips Square for the following events to be held on Nathan Phillips Square, March - July,. Schizophrenia Society of Canada's "Walk for Schizophrenia" Trek for Teens Foundation's "Trek for Teens" Camp Jumoke's "Camp Jumoke Walk" Autism Speaks of Canada's "Autism Walk" Make a Wish Canada's "Rope for Hope" North American Indigenous Games' (NAIG) "88 Days Out" GTA Collectibles Expo's "GTA Collectible Expo" Dancing Damsel's "Dancing Damsel" United Way Toronto's "Scotiabank Rat Race" Maple Tree Foundation's "Fast in the 6" Special Olympic Canada's "Concrete Rush" Social Development, Finance and Administration Division's "City of Toronto's, Toronto Newcomers Day" Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association's "Farmers' Market" City of Toronto Economic Development & Culture Division, Arts & Culture Services' "TO Canada with Love" Use of Nathan Phillips Square for various events from March 1 - July, Page 1 of 5

RECOMMENDATIONS The Chief Corporate Officer recommends that: 1. City Council grant an exemption to the GTA Collectibles Expo's, Dancing Damsel's, United Way Toronto, Maple Tree Foundation, Special Olympic Canada, Ontario Farm Fresh Marketing Association and City of Toronto Economic Development & Culture Division, Arts & Culture Services to operate a beer garden and to serve wine and hard liquor contingent upon the following conditions: Approval of the A.G.C.O. Approval of the Medical Officer of Health Compliance with the City of Toronto s Municipal Alcohol Policy Receipt of all the necessary permits associated with the production of the event i.e. building permit, noise by-law extension permit. 2. City Council grant permission to Schizophrenia Society of Canada, Trek for Teens Foundation, Camp Jumoke, Autism Speaks of Canada, Make a Wish Canada, United Way Toronto, Maple Tree Foundation, and Special Olympic Canada to solicit in support of their organizations. 3. City Council grant permission to City of Toronto Economic Development & Culture Division, Arts & Culture Services to solicit, place objects in the reflecting pool, use special effects pyrotechnics. 4. City Council grant permission to Make a Wish Canada and Special Olympic Canada to engage in sport. 5. City Council grant permission to North American Indigenous Games (NAIG) to solicit for, engage in sport and host ticketed" events in support of their organization. 6. City Council grant permission to Social Development, Finance and Administration Division for sound amplification outside of NPS amplification schedule policy. 7. City Council require that the various events compensate the City of Toronto, through the Facilities Management Division, for all City of Toronto costs associated with an event above the standard staffing compliment. FINANCIAL IMPACT There are no financial implications that result from this report. The City will be compensated by the event organizers for any costs incurred by the City as a result of these various events and the approval of requested exemptions to the Municipal Code Chapter 237 through the Facilities Management, Real Estate, Environment and Energy (FREEE) Division. The Deputy City Manager & Chief Financial Officer has reviewed this report and agrees with the financial impact information. Various event organizers are requesting permission to solicit and/or host ticketed events, and/or operate a beer garden and to serve beer, wine and hard liquor in the licensed area. The proceeds of these and other sales will go to their respective non-profit organizations.
