It promises to be an extraordinary travel programme to one of the world s most wonderful countries. I am pleased to advise that there has been an excellent response to the proposed itinerary with forty-three (43) expressions of interest. Students of Years 10, 11 and 12 and members of the wider Glennie community are welcome to join the travelling group. In planning this historical and cultural tour we have tried to ensure that the participants will receive a useful educational, social and travel experience. This will be a tour of cosmopolitan and simple pleasures. Greece is a country of remarkable contrasts. Here you will find the cradle of Western Civilisation; ancient and modern cities, quaint villages, magnificent monasteries, marvellous markets and magical mountains. You will also have an opportunity to spend a few days relaxing on the stunning island of Santorini. Take the chance to swim in the brilliantly blue Aegean Sea, sail through the striking caldera and experience the astoundingly splendid sunset. The archaeological site of Akrotiri is also a significant highlight here. The tour will take place from Thursday 18 September to Friday 3 October 2014. The cost of the tour will be $6460 (*) including airfares, transfers, accommodation, breakfasts, dinners and itinerary outlined sightseeing. Our Travel Consultant, Sue McPherson from Travelworld Toowoomba has provided me with information regarding the next phase of our booking process. To secure our arrangements with airlines and suppliers I ask that a deposit of $500 per participant be paid by Monday 14 October 2013. Places may be subject to availability so be quick to secure your position on this tour. The payment may be made by cash, eftpos, credit card or cheque at Travelworld Toowoomba in Ruthven Street. Visa or Mastercard are accepted but will incur a 1.5% service fee. Cheques should be made payable to Travelworld Toowoomba. No deposit money will be paid to suppliers until we are able to establish the group based on a firm financial commitment. Once our final group number is determined and suppliers paid, the deposit will become nonrefundable. The balance of the fare will be paid in three instalments likely to be due during Semester 1, 2014. Once group numbers have been determined we will organise Group Travel insurance. Further information regarding various aspects of our tour arrangements will become available over the coming months. When staffing arrangements are finalised I will be able to provide you with the names of the staff who will be accompanying us on our sojourn. I do expect this tour to be an invaluable opportunity to explore the history and culture of wonderful Greece. Should you need to contact me for further information please feel free to email duffinl@glennie.qld.edu.au or call the Humanities Staffroom directly on 4688 8821.
