EMPLOYEE BENEFITS OF THE TAKE YOUR TIME INITIATIVE There are many ways local businesses can get involved with the Take Your Time Initiative, and there are so many benefits from active involvement in this campaign. OVERALL EXPERIENCE Engagement with local employees will enhance experiences throughout Garfield County when visitors receive insider tips about attractions they won t want to miss. CUSTOMER EXPERIENCE The customer experience will improve in your establishment as visitors feel a personal connection to the area and to the people they are interacting with. We want our guests to feel welcomed at local establishments, increasing the chances they ll put your business on their list of places they must hit the next time they come, or on the list of must-see places they suggest to their friends. RETURN TRAVEL More return travel will greatly pay off in the long term as visitors feel welcomed to the area and have personal experiences that leave lasting impressions. ACTIVITY CHEAT SHEET Offers a list of both popular and lesser-known attractions around Garfield County. It will provide great suggestions for visitors who may ask for advice on what to do during their trip. From driving along the scenic byways to camping in the Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument, we want visitors to extend their stay after learning about all there is to explore in every corner of the county. A 4.7-mile hike leading to beautiful viewpoints including Sunset Point, Sunrise Point, Bryce Point and Inspiration Point. This is a fairly easy option. Navajo Loop Trail BCNP This is a more strenuous 2.2-mile loop ascending 521 feet from the floor of the amphitheater. The trail winds through a section called Wall Street, where you can walk through a narrow collection of unique hoodoos. Fairyland Loop BCNP A lengthier 8.2-mile trail with particularly beautiful views at the Fairyland Point overlook that runs through the remarkable hoodoos. MOUNTAIN BIKING brycecanyoncountry.com/things-to-do/area-activities/ mountain-biking/ Red Canyon/Bryce Canyon Multi-Use Path The new, 5-mile paved trail that extends from Red Canyon to Inspiration Point in Bryce Canyon. This trail can be biked from beginning to end or in sections along the way. Thunder Mountain Trail A longer, 7.8-mile trail running through both pine forests and red rock country. Best for more experienced bikers. Cassidy Trail A 8.9-mile trail in Red Canyon through impressive red rock scenery and ponderosa pine forests. Red Canyon National Forest BCNP Red rock and hoodoos and surrounded by the lush greenery of Dixie National Forest. STARGAZING ACTIVITY CHEAT SHEET BRYCE CANYON AREA nps.gov/brca/planyourvisit/astronomyprograms.htm Nighty Sky Programs BCNP May through October, the National Park Service offers night sky programs with fun, educational shows from astronomy rangers, which are followed by stargazing with telescopes. Astronomy Festival BCNP Each summer, Bryce Canyon hosts a four-day astronomy festival featuring famous astronomy guest speakers, planet walks, planisphere workshops and green laser constellation tours. Badger Creek Loop A 20-mile trail through many high mountain meadows and thick forests. This trail takes about three hours and is best for intermediate ATV riders. Bull Rush Loop A scenic trail through thick forests and hills, this 36-mile trail is best for more advanced riders. Casto Canyon Ride This intermediate trail starts in downtown Panguitch and provides beautiful country views. This 36-mile ride will take about five hours. Powell Point A 20-mile trip by Pine Lake with majestic views, best for intermediate riders. Pass Creek A great trail for beginners, this 27-mile trip to Panguitch Lake has many scenic viewpoints along the way. SCENIC DRIVES brycecanyoncountry.com/things-to-do/scenic-byways/ Scenic Byway 12 Also known as All American Byway 12, this drive spans more than 120 miles through diverse and ruggedly beautiful landscapes. This road runs through Red Canyon State Park providing beautiful views and picture-perfect opportunities. Scenic Byway 143 This drive is a 55 mile course between Panguitch and Parowan, Utah. It is also called Utah s Patchwork Parkway, describing the historical story of pioneers walking on quilts as they crossed to Parowan. Scenic Highway 89 Scenic Highway 89 is part of the Utah Heritage Highway 89. The road passes through the western section of the area and connects travelers from Zion National Park to the north rim of the Grand Canyon. We ask our visitors to Take Your Time so they don t rush through their trip, or miss out on the many experiences available in Bryce Canyon Country. We want to encourage our visitors to book enough time to see everything there is to do in Garfield County. Where we live and work has everything from outdoor adventure to true western experiences, and visitors can take part in all of it if they just take their time and really enjoy everything there is to do here. WHAT ARE SOME KID-FRIENDLY ACTIVITIES THAT WE CAN DO? Hiking in Bryce Canyon Bryce Canyon National Park has plenty of kid-friendly hiking trails and camping sites for the whole family to enjoy. Red Canyon Use the Red Canyon and Bryce Canyon multi-use pathway on bike or on foot. Stop at the Red Canyon Visitor Center and enjoy the exhibits or walk to the kid-friendly Bird s Eye and Pink Ledges trail. Night Sky Programs From May through October, kids will love the Night Sky Programs in the park where Astronomy Rangers put on educational and entertaining programs followed by stargazing with telescopes. Stop at the Bryce Canyon Visitor center to schedule your program and learn how to get there. Panguitch/Panguitch Lake Take a drive on Scenic Byway 143 also known as Utah s Patchwork Parkway. Drive through historic Panguitch and view some of the old red brick pioneer homes. Along the byway, stop at Panguitch Lake where boat rentals and horseback rides are available. Kodachrome Basin State Park The park offers fun hiking trails that kids really enjoy. You will also find a picnic area, restrooms and sandstone features in fantastic shapes. Utah GeoTour Garfield County has five hidden Geocahes within Garfield County. If you find three of the five caches, write down the codes and pick up a Garfield County GeoTour patch at the Ruby s Inn front desk. Sunset Point Visit in the early morning or late evening for an overlook of the park. Sunrise Point Best photographed in the early morning to watch the sunrise was over Bryce Amphitheater. QUICK ANSWERS GUIDE BRYCE CANYON AREA IS THE BRYCE CANYON SHUTTLE OPTIONAL? The shuttle is optional, however it is convenient and free with your paid admission to the park. It runs about every 15 minutes. As an added bonus, guests who take the shuttle don t have to worry about finding a parking spot at often congested parking lots. The Rainbow Point shuttle goes out twice a day; reservations are recommended and can be made at the shuttle ticket office. WHAT DOES THE PARK DO WITH MY ENTRANCE FEE? Money collected from entrance fees are used to complete projects such has road enhancements, improved accessibility for the physically challenged, campground upgrades, rehabilitation of structures and general repair. These funds directly impact the visitor experience within the park. WHEN CAN WE GET INTO THE NATIONAL PARKS FOR FREE? Free entrance days in the National Park are as follows: Martin Luther King Jr. Day National Park Week National Public Lands Day Veterans Day So if you re not already visiting on one of the free park days, plan your next trip on one of the above dates and take advantage of the chance to get into Bryce Canyon for free! WHAT IS THE MOST SCENIC DRIVE IN THE AREA? Scenic Byway 12 All-American Road Scenic Byway 12 is always rated among the 10 most beautiful drives in America. Don t miss it. To make the most of your tour, plan your trip to include activities like a picnic lunch or a stop in one or two of the small towns along the way. Rainbow Point Along the southern end of Bryce Canyon, Rainbow Point is a 17-mile drive to one of the highest points, offering a stunning view of the vast park. You can see for miles along the east rim of the Paunsugunt Plateau where the pink cliffs and hoodoos light up all day long.
