Highlights For the 12-month period, January to December 2010, for the scheduled and charter services, the major Canadian air carriers reported a 7.2% increase in passengers and a 10.0% growth in passenger-kilometres compared with the same period in 2009. reported that total passenger-kilometres flown rose 12.9% during the period, while the operations of increased 9.1%. In 2010, both and reported their highest volume of scheduled passenger traffic in August. It is also during that month that these two carriers posted the highest number of passenger-kilometres flown on their scheduled operations. During the 12-month period, the average passenger trip length ranged between 3,077 kilometres in April and 3,503 kilometres in September for, while it ranged between 1,595 kilometres in both September and October and 1,711 kilometres in December for. In 2010, and increased their system capacity, as measured by available seat-kilometres, for their scheduled services, by 7.8% and 13.7%, respectively when compared with 2009. The capacity of Air Canada increased in all months, except for April, when a 0.3% decrease was recorded; the capacity of climbed in all months the increases ranged from 10.4% in June to 19.5% in February. This strong growth is partly related to the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics. Both and reported an improvement in their scheduled passenger load factor (a measure of the fullness of their aircraft).
