An Unforgettable Journey through the History of Railroad The railroad construction started on February of 1880. Considered impeccable, they started to work in three simultaneous places; between Paranaguá and Morretes (42 kms), between Morretes and Roça Nova (38 kms) and between Roça Nova and Curitiba (30 kms). The goal was to narrow the relationship between the capital and the cities in the state shore. Besides that, it was necessary to conect the Paranaguá Port to the south of Brazil, to give output of the grains produced, and in a way, guarantee support to the economical growth of the region. Besides that, tunnels and viaducts are also along the way. Among the engineer arts integrated with the nature is the São João bridge, 55 meters long with a lot of emotion and beauty, and the Carvalho Viaduct, a contour over a mountain that gives a sensation of floating in the air. The most imposing tunnel, Roça Nova, has 457 meters long and is located 900 meters above the sea level. Arriving in Morretes, one of the oldest cities in the State, the tourist can walk through the narrow streets, discover the local arts and taste the famous Barreado, a local dish prepared with cow meat, lard and spices on a crock, it s served with a mix of yuka flour, also featuring banana and seafood.
