TOUR GUIDE INFORMATION The Y is the largest provider of child care and day camp in the United States serving over 500,000 youth daily. In keeping with the Y s practices and traditions, the Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area strives to keep the bar raised at a high level in day camp programming. We refer to our summer camp staff as Role Models to help ensure that they are always setting the best examples for your kids. To achieve these goals, our staff have completed the following trainings: CPR/First-Aid and AED certification Official clean criminal background checks Child abuse prevention policies and training Certified professional lifeguards on guard during swim time A minimum of 25 hours of YMCA child care training: - Day Camp Safety and Supervision - Activity and Game Facilitation - Staff Safety at Camp - Trip and Transportation - Aquatic Safety/Pools - Playground Safety

WEEKLY ENRICHMENTS The Y will be working with the Crandall Public Library this season to help bridge the gap known as the summer reading loss. Together, we ll work together to get each camper signed up for the summer reading program at the library and facilitate the fun of reading! The World Awareness Children s Museum will be partnering up with the Y to provide world-wide knowledge via our summer theme! Interactive presentations throughout the summer will allow campers to explore the foods, cultures, clothes and music from all across the globe! The Junior Achievement Program will be on hand to teach campers grades 5 and up, the introductory basics of personal finance, work readiness and entrepreneurship! Junior Achievement provides a fun, program based curriculum sure to introduce campers how to succeed in the global economy! Campers will be exposed to the most fun versions of our swim lessons taught by Coach Dennie from the YMCA Gator Swim Team! With semi-regular options to participate in competitive swim time, lessons will engage swimmers of all levels and introduce them to the next level of Including our before & after care pricing in the weekly fee for camp allows us to provide parents the availability to get to work on time or take advantage of their earlier rising camper by providing age-appropriate organized group play from 7:30-9 AM. In the afternoon, don t worry if you re a few minutes late, we ve got games and organized group play from 4:30-6 PM! COUNSELORS IN TRAINING Requirements: CIT: 13-16 years old (CIT-Counselor In Training) Leaders of tomorrow are teens today. At the YMCA, young people are given the opportunity and responsibility to develop leadership qualities in a supportive environment through the Counselor-In-Training (CIT) program. These weekly sessions allow teens to explore all areas of the Y while building the confidence and skills necessary to enter the work force, be part of a team and strengthen communication!
SPORTS VILLAGE Each week our Camp Chepontuc s Sport Village offers the opportunity for campers ages 5-12 years old to pursue their sports related interest. Games include, but are not limited to, floor hockey, field hockey/polo, volleyball and baseball. As the week goes on campers will be placed into groups based on their age and skill level as they pick their favorite sports to be scrimmaged. Week 4: Outdoor Adventure 1 During Outdoor Adventure week athletes will work together at team building challenges and friendly competition. This week offers a lot of recreational games outside the norm of regular sports, including tag games, critical thinking challenges and even some goofy games. Week 5: Water Week Beat the heat with our Sports Water Week! All week campers will be playing water themed games to keep them active and cool, including water balloon competitions, wacky water relays, and even a chance to soak their favorite camp counselor. We will end the week with a relaxing day at Million Dollar Beach on Lake George! Week 6: Ultimate Sports Athletes will spend the week trying both popular sports and non-traditional games that are found all over the world. They will learn, drill and enhance their skills in a variety of sports including ultimate Frisbee, Omni-volleyball, rugby, Spikeball and more! SPORTS CAMP ROCKS! Week 7: Outdoor Adventure 2 Athletes will have the chance to learn how to have fun with fitness in the great outdoors. All week we will be exploring Coles Woods s trails via walking, running and even biking. Campers will have the chance at a one day field trip to hike Buck Mountain overlooking Lake George.
GYMNASTICS VILLAGE Each week our Camp Chepontuc s Gymnastics & Arts Village offers the opportunity for campers to pursue their gymnastics and arts dreams. Whether your camper is a beginner or more advanced, they have the opportunity to begin to develop skills that last a life time. During instruction times, campers will be grouped by age and ability. A variety of dance genre will be introduced and may differ from week to week. Group dance performance at the end of the week. Gymnasts cross train in ballet and other dance forms to learn safer landings, reinforce proper posture and form as well as build confidence and poise. Extras may include flash mob and more... Variety: Each day students will participate in regular artistic gymnastics instruction, but will also have the opportunity to try other Olympic gymnastics sports including Men s Artistic, Rhythmic, Acro, Trampoline and more Group Sports: Gymnastics instruction in the morning. Afternoons may include group games such as kick ball, soccer, volleyball, track & field and more, as weather permits. Cross training helps to make an athlete more aerobically fit, more agile and spacially aware. But the best reason is, it s fun! 1/2 Day: 9am-12pm For gymnasts (super starz/ competitive level 2 & up) who want the extra gym time to advance but want just gymnastics. TEAM: Team athletes, level 3 & higher improve confidence at their current ability level as well as work on drills and learn new skills for the next level in preparation for the new season. Over 5 hours of gymnastics instruction each day with our seasoned coaches. Wednesday of week 8 includes a team building hike, ice cream social & we ll end our day with a mind & body stretching Yoga class. We recommend two weeks! Boys Gymnastics JUST FOR BOYS! Beginner through team level gymnasts enjoy a morning of men s Olympic gymnastics (tumbling, vaulting, rings, p-bars, high bar, pommel horse) including skills, drills and related, age appropriate activities. Their afternoon will consist of more traditional activities such as swimming, sports, art, games, theme related activities and more.
GYMNASTICS & ARTS Tumbling & Acro Are you a gymnast or cheerleader looking to refine your tumbling or acrobatic skills? This camp program will focus on tumbling drills, dance skills and sport acrobatics. Additionally, you will benefit from our 30 tumbling trampoline. Camp culminates with a group performance on Friday that incorporates these specialized skills. Cheer Step up and step out in this fun filled camp where you ll learn jump and tumbling techniques, half time style dance, cheers, team spirit and so much more. This camp will include strength, agility and flexibility training. Swimming, art and other traditional camp activities will also be included as part of the camp week. Theatre/ Creative Arts Drama Time: Express yourself. Explore the world of acting, performance, improv, set design, back stage functions and so much more. Swimming, art & group dynamic activities are all part of the fun. Campers will perform an original miniplay on Friday at 3pm. Campers declare one of the areas of focus (Production- set design, back stage functions and so much more OR Theatre dance- Broadway show style dance including jazz!) Creative Arts: Make new friends and get your creative juices flowing through the exploration of many different forms of art-making, including mixed media collage, painting, sculpting or painting, crafting, sewing and more. Other activities may include creative physical expression, games and swimming. Share your creative work with family and friends in a mini-gallery style show on the last day. Hollywood Casting Director/ Executive Director to guest teach YMCA Theatre Camp. Aleta Chappelle, will be guest teaching YMCA Drama Campers about improvisation and film acting. Chappelle is the Founder/Director of the Harlem Children s Theatre, guest at our YMCA s 2014 camps and will be guest teaching at theatre camp this summer. Aleta will teach an improvisation workshop and do a film acting workshop each of the camp weeks.

Access the Camp Registration form at our Member Services Desk or online at: glensfallsymca.org/youthdevelopment/summer-camp. If participating in the CIT program, fill out the CIT Questionnaire. 2. Mail or drop-off completed Camp Registration form with all sections complete, along with your camper s current immunization records (required by NYS DOH) and deposit/payment to the YMCA Member Service Desk. HAVING TROUBLE WITH TRAVEL EXPENSES? Financial Assistance Available Financial Assistance (Scholarships) No youth will be denied access due to an inability to pay the full cost of camp (subject to the availability of funds). Financial assistance is available to those who meet financial guidelines. Complete a financial aid application with all documentation & come in for a confidential interview prior to camp. Strong Kids Campaign Funds are made available from the Family YMCA of the Glens Falls Area Strong Kids Campaign, which is supported by donors & organizations in the Glens Falls area. Glens Falls City Grant Thanks to a generous grant from the City of Glens Falls, a limited number of free camp weeks are available to those who qualify through the application process. Must be a resident of the city of Glens Falls to apply. ASSISTANCE APPLICATIONS MUST BE IN & PROCESSED BY JUNE 16, 2015. Payment Options Cash, check, credit and debit card payments. Credit Card Draft - Enrollment forms will be available upon request at the Member Service Desk. We will automatically charge your account on the Wednesday before that week of camp begins. County Assistance - If you receive county assistance for childcare, a current DSS Approval Letter must be submitted at time of registration or on file at the YMCA. If your payment is not made in full by the end of business on the Sunday before that week of camp begins, a $15 late fee per camp, per camper will be assessed. Signing up for credit card billing will help avoid late fees!
