MERIT BADGE CAMP WITH HIGH ADVENTURE Camp Daniel Boone, Just West of Asheville, NC June 9-16 Camp Daniel Boone is located in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains. From the 6,000-foot summit of Cold Mountain to the tumbling Little East Fork that flows through camp, CDB abounds with Scouting program adventure. CDB offers over 50 merit badge options and numerous non-merit badge programs to support opportunities for leadership and character development. In addition, there is down time where the Scouts can fish, have fellowship with scouts from 20 different councils that attend each session, roasting marshmallows, climbing the rock wall, and making a craft for mom at Boonesboro Village (a 18 th century living village at CDB), and horsemanship. The weather is a huge positive in getting out of the Houston summer heat! Troop will spend one day out of camp rafting the Nantahala River. High Adventure Option: Art Loeb Trail 4 day, 30 mile hike through Pisgah National Forest and Shining Rock Wilderness which is famous for its rugged climbs and pristine views. Trail crosses the Blue Ridge Parkway on the way up to 6,000 ft. The trail was ranked #2 in America for high alpine views and is described as a Sound of Music experience for the route along the peaks. Age: All ages (High Adventure must be 13 by June 1, 2018) PreCamp Add On: A day of hiking, ice cream, pizza, and Sliding Rock. Chimayo Walkabout and Pecos Wilderness Program June 2018 Walkabout Gorham is 7200 feet high in the Sangre de Cristo Mountains in northern New Mexico, between Santa Fe and Taos. Backpacking 101 level program for First Class Scouts, 12 years old at trip time. 5 days backpacking for 25-30 miles on the Gorham Scout Ranch. Pecos Trek First Class Scouts, at least 13 on date of Trek. NYLT strongly preferred. Meets preparation commitments. Cost: ~$850 Adult Coordinator: Charles Williams

Merit Badge Camp and High Adventure Camp Red Feather Lakes, Larimer Co, Colorado July 8-14 Ben Delatour is located near Red Feather Lakes, Colorado. Encompassing over 3,400 acres, it is an ideal venue for both adventure and merit badge programs. The merit badge camp offers dozens of options including a top notch shooting facility, outdoor natural climbing programs, aquatics and the the perfect setting to explore and study nature as well as practice trademark outdoor skills scouts are known for. The high adventure week is a backcountry mountaineering experience where your scout will get to hike, camp, horseback ride, rock climb and possibly white water raft in the Rocky Mountains. Philmont High Adventure Philmont is the Boy Scouts of America's largest national High Adventure Base. It covers 137,000 acres - about 214 square miles - of rugged mountain wilderness in the Sangre de Cristo (Blood of Christ) range of the Rocky Mountains in northern New Mexico The troop has space for 3 crews, each with a maximum of 12 participants. Patagonia Chile Mid-July, 2018 Program Objectives include enhancing peace through improving the Environment. The Trip will combine high adventure treks with environmental conservation/service projects in two regions of Chile: the Andes and Patagonia. NYLT should be taken as a prerequisite for Troop Leadership positions. Age: 13 years. Scoutmaster approval needed. NYLT June 3-8 and June 10-16, 2016, Bovay Scout Ranch, Navasota, Texas. Adults Get trained to go on a fun Troop 55 adventure! Boy Scout Basic Training To access the online training, go to My.Scouting.org and then:create an account. Youth Protection Training (online) and Classroom Facilitated YPT: All adults attending day camp, resident camp or Boy Scout summer camp must take Classroom Facilitated Youth Protection Training. Intro to Outdoor Leader Skills (IOLS) Working as patrols, this hands-on course provides adult leaders the practical outdoor skills they need to lead Scouts in the out-of-doors. Upon completion, leaders should feel comfortable teaching Scouts the basic skills required to obtain the First Class rank. Along with basic training, this course is required of all direct contact leaders registered in Boy Scout troops and Varsity Scout teams, in order to be considered "trained. February 16-17, 2018 Tomball ASM Basic Leader Training This course is intended to provide troop leadership with the information and tools they need to lead successful Boy Scout troops. This course teaches practical ways to instill the Scouting methods into troop programs and covers the roles of the Scoutmasters and Assistants in a boy-led troop. 4.5 hours. Supplemental Training Adult CPR BSM and Red Cross Wilderness First Aid is the assessment of and treatment given to an ill or injured person in a remote environment where definitive care by a physician and/or rapid transport is not readily available. Selling Scout Fair Coupon Books not only sustains the Scout Fair event and other council programs, it also provides a great fundraising opportunity for your unit and prepares Scouts to "earn their own way." Each Coupon Book sells for only $10, but offers over $600 in savings. Scouts will earn 30% commission on each book sold. Scout Fair ticket sales kickoff on [January 28 th.]

Frequently Asked Questions Can a Scout attend more than one adventure? Absolutely! Can an Parent go on an adventure? Yes! You need to get trained as an Assistant Scoutmaster (ASM & IOLS training) and YPT. Additional training is required for high adventures. How do the Scout prepare for a mid-level or high adventure treks? In the Spring, Scouts will be prepare for the summer adventures during the campouts and additional training & shakedowns. How do I get a summer shirt? Summer Adventure T-Shirt orders will be on the summer registration link. Does my Scout need an updated Health Form? BSA Health Records must now be submitted annually. Parts A,B & C (Part C must be completed by a physician) will be due by May 1 for all summer camps. If your son will not be eligible for his physician's exam before May 1, please contact our Medical Records coordinator Julia Humphreys now to make arrangements. Troop 55 has scholarship funds available to assist scouts with the cost of summer camps, especially merit badge camps and leadership camps. The troop has activities each year whereby scouts can earn funds for summer camp, and these include selling Scout Fair tickets. The receipt of financial assistance for summer camp is often conditioned on the scout earning a portion of the camp fee himself. To apply for financial assistance, please see instructions on the Troop website under scholarships. Are there ways to help out? Yes, Troop 55 needs your help.
