Incident: On 1/15/14, an e-incident was generated through the Perspective data base concerning the theft of a Sony issued laptop. Security Investigator Chris Mapel, contacted Ms. Katya Culberg, Director Labor Relations, and the following information was relayed: Investigation: According to Ms. Culberg, she had placed her Sony issued laptop on the drivers side backseat floor area of her vehicle on 1/14/14 at approximately 1830 hours. She drove to her condo and parked in the security gated parking garage. She had quite a few other packages to take into her unit and decided to get the laptop in the morning. She auto locked her vehicle and went into her unit. On 1/15/14 at approximately 0800 hours, she returned to her vehicle and found that person(s) unknown had smashed the left passenger side window and stolen the laptop. She stated that the windows on her vehicle were dark tinted and the laptop case was also a dark color. She reported that there was nothing else missing or tampered with inside her vehicle. She contacted LAPD West Division to file a formal report, and found that another vehicle within the same parking garage had been targeted and items stolen from it as well. Mapel asked her if she had noticed anyone suspicious or acting unusual prior to her entering the gated garage and she stated that she had not. She advised Mapel that the security gate closes pretty quickly after each vehicle and is surrounded by a 12 to 15 foot retaining wall making it hard to access the area. Mapel asked Ms. Culberg if there was any intellectual or propriety information stored on the laptop that could be detrimental to SPE, and she stated that there was not.
