1 sur 10 24/11/2014 12:31 CAIMANs : a European project dedicated to Air Quality in the MED - Ports The European project CAIMANs addresses the air quality in the Mediterranean area. It is carried out by European governmental and non-governmental organizations, experts in air quality, in five important port cities in the rthern Mediterranean (Barcelona, Genova, Marseille, Thessaloniki and Venice) and it aims to involve in a participative consultation ports all around the Mediterranean, within an international framework aiming to a better cooperation between MED countries. The project is focused on the Air Quality Impact and Green house Gases Assessments for cruise and passenger ships, an important tourist sector for the whole MED basin. This participative consultation aims at proposing orientations for future European and Mediterranean Cooperation Programmes on a sustainable tourism in regards to the air pollution impact due to ship traffic. Our objective is pointing out critical points, gaps or specific limitation of a joint policy response to be acted for this touristic sector at local and transtional level in the next future.
