INSTYLE EMILY SUBRATA: SUDAMALA RESORTS, WHERE DIVERSITY OF TRADITIONAL ART SOURCED As an hotelier who is so excited, Emily Subrata bring of her passionate style in her position as Director of PT. Griya Usaha, overseeing the development of all properties where the traditional art sourced, Sudamala Resorts. Edhie Rianto spends an evening with Emily Subrata at her office recently as she excitedly shares how she is living her dream life and how it all began. TRAVELTEXT 6 TRAVELTEXT

INSTYLE With her enthusiasm and experience in the world of hospitality and art, Emily Subrata appointed as Director and reporting directly to the CEO of PT Griya Enterprises, owners and managers of Sudamala Resorts Indonesia is none other than her own father Ben Subrata. My father opened a resting Sudamala House, said Emily started this conversation, everything is built in a spirit of culture and strong character, combining traditional art and cultural treasures of the present to an international hospitality. Sudamala Suites & Villas Sanur as the embryo is not just a resort, but also a kind of oasis of thought and the struggle of art and cultural activities. This retreat offers the feel and spirit that is not found in the villa as well as other hotels and resorts in Bali, said Emily. As someone who was so excited, she is committed to develop a boutique resort that reflect and respect the local culture. As Director Sudamala Resorts, responsibilities included oversight of existing property operations, sustainable development, introducing brand Sudamala as well as the development of new projects. Including coverage for both property that has been running in Sanur Bali (2011) and Sudamala Senggigi Lombok (2013) as well as new projects in a small island outside the Komodo National Park Flores, East Nusa Tenggara precisely in Pulau Besar Sebayur that will be opened in 2017. therefore I will involve educational background and my experience so Sudamala Resorts celebrated on elegance, style and artistic value, she said. My father, Emily continued is a great art collector so that many artistic masterpieces contained in our property. Each suite has a unique interior design each and we were so careful to confound our properties in an environment, especially the local culture. I will bring all the passion and energy that I have for this position so that the guests have an experience of staying at the Sudamala Resorts is so unforgettable. Even before my father could never aspire to open a hotel and conference venue in Dili, the reason for a new country, Timor-Leste to open up opportunities for building infrastructure and invite parties to invest there, Emily added. Well, as a blow under its supervision, the restaurant in Sanur Sudamala now re-named and re-launched with a new image to show more quality and urban as artwork place to enjoy delicious steaks and pasta dishes in an artistic feel, Ares Steak and Pasta. These changes are just a prelude to another new project waiting to be implemented in Sudamala Resorts in the future. I am very proud to continue the business started by my father. In this position I was in charge of introducing the brand and formulating marketing strategies, operations and development of new properties. It is a big challenge. I am responsible for the development of the company in the future, and TRAVELTEXT 7

INSTYLE When asked to where the buzz hospitality of its being applied in some of its properties, Emily replied effort hospitality is not just about business, but I want to give added value to a property by raising the potential of art and culture as well as the involvement of artists in a variety of activities, well this is happening at Sudamala Suites & Villas Sanur built on one hectare of land around it has 34 rooms with the concept of a blend of traditional Balinese and Javanese architecture. The building is equipped with a spa, shopping, library, cafes, galleries and outdoor theater. I also saw the development of properties in the country as long as the prospective still offer something new, fresh, and features. This plan also will I apply at Sudamala Resorts & Dive Komodo, Flores, later. I will apply all the training that I have followed in the field of professional development, educational management, public relations and customers as well as with education in one of the best hospitality schools in the world in building a team and creating a remarkable brand. In fact I felt proud at all the resorts we employ local people through training and of course to our standards, Emily explained. In fact, she added that obviously I will work with the General Manager, Head of the Department and their teams at all our properties in Bali and Lombok in strengthening brand Sudamala and completing new projects, including the later projects in a small island outside the Komodo National Park, Flores. It is indeed a pleasant thing for Sudamala Resorts. But when asked about the value of this new investment property, then she rapidly replied probably you might figure by yourself, for example to a physical building Sudamala Suites & Villas Sanur used to require an investment of around 30 billion rupiahs, yet the procurement of the art content both indoors and outdoors. So now for the property in Flores, you can assume it alone while closing this discussion. PROFILE of Emily Subrata BORN in Jakarta, for fifteen years living in Sydney, Australia, and worked in various fields after graduating with First Class Honors from the University of Sydney, the school where she earned her Bachelor of Arts (Bachelor/S1). She returned to Indonesia to work in the company of family and graduated from the Executive Master of Business Administration in Hospitality Management at the Ecole Hoteliere de Lausanne (Lausanne Hotel School) a prestigious school in Switzerland. Work experience focused on the relationship with clients and operations in Australia further education and event management. Besides hospitality, Emily likes to read, travel, care for animal welfare and is very fond of her nephews. 8 TRAVELTEXT

MICE ANDHY IRAWAN: DHM AIMS TO PROVIDE MORE MICE VENUE IN SECONDARY CITY INDONESIAN hotel industry has shown positive growth, so in hospitality sector wanted to capture the activities of corporate and association meetings or government activities is because the contribution of Meeting, Incentive, Convention and Exhibition (MICE) activity is also increase to hotels revenue. Edhie Rianto has interviewed Andhy Irawan, Managing Director of Dafam Hotel Management (DHM) recently to explain DHM hotel marketing strategy and MICE story. As Managing Director of Dafam Hotel Management (DHM) what is your concept and strategy to develop your hotel in the future? What is the strategy of your hotel to win the competition among hotels in Indonesia? Yes, due to I am also as founder of Dafam Hotel Management the important thing is hotel concept and vision & mission for the company my strategy for the concept is for budget hotel (Dafam Express) economic hotel (Meotel by Dafam), midscale hotel (Hotel Dafam) upscale hotel (Grand Dafam) and DHM associates (collection hotel without brand Dafam). All strategy following each concept with each brand and we have BIM (Brand Identity Manual) for every concept hotel. Another strategy to win is: our promotion all brand under DHM centralized as well as good result occupancy every hotel will be impact with stakeholder and bank. Also detail mapping city for market and economic situation before Dafam develop new hotel in secondary cities such as: Cilacap, Pekalongan, Lubuk Linggau and we are trendsetter because another chain will be following by other Dafam hotes. Can you describe which one your hotel target market, domestic or international? Can you figure of the percentage? Which city today is the big market for your exclusively guest? Do you also targeting the MICE market? If yes how many MICE events at your hotel in the year? All hotels under DHM domestic market is still big market around 90 percent and 10 percent for international market. Pekalongan is captive market for Japanese guest and already signed contract with our hotel for 2 years (2016-2017), and Cilacap with mostly from Oil Company and other city as well. All our hotels with concept above and TRAVELTEXT 9

MICE concerned with MICE (except Dafam Express - room only) other hotels are equipped with meeting room and ballroom. While for MICE market in our hotel is in average for 60-80 percent. What kinds of MICE market do you aiming today? Wedding event, meeting or convention? Can you figure of the percentage how many MICE guests at your hotel during last year and which city has makes a lot of MICE events in your hotel? For the MICE industry in our hotel, meeting is the majority market for corporation market as well as private demand for every event in our hotels which providing MICE facilities are usually used for weddings and conventions. For today s figures of MICE percentage is 80 percent, comes up from Semarang and Banjarbaru. How about MICE facilities in your hotel? Do you have a large ballroom and meeting rooms as you want to be the strongest MICE player in Indonesia? Do you expand a number of your meeting rooms, particularly in MICE destinations like in all cities in Indonesia? The capacity of our MICE facilities that we offer for meeting room and ballroom is depend for every city needed. But we are very lucky after we doing our SWOT analyze, the existing of our meeting room and ballroom which we provided in every hotels is not necessary to expand anymore. How do you see the MICE business right now? And what s your opinion about Indonesian MICE industry in 2016 (this year)? And what do you think about the challenge that Indonesian MICE industry will face ahead in particularly? MICE Business is still potential market for this year (2016) especially for corporate segment market as well as government, but for DHM is still optimistic such as we will develop in Linggau (secondary city) that we provide 4 meeting rooms for this hotel. Do you have any suggestion for Indonesian MICE industry in the future if compare with Thailand and Malaysia for venue and human resources in particularly? I have experience attending for several trade show and MICE events for ASEAN countries especially in Thailand and Malaysia etc., but for Indonesia s MICE industry so far never learning from them, from my point of view is we do not know what and how to improve in MICE industry and also for professionalism sector as well. As you know the country s hospitality industry is projected to strong growth this year as the upcoming ASEAN Economic Community (MEA) will further boost demand for accommodation and meeting, incentives, convention and exhibition (MICE) provision especially for your all hotel? 10 TRAVELTEXT

MICE MICE has tremendous opportunities for Indonesia in the near future especially for facing in MEA hospitality. We still improve our facilities and services with highest levels. The challenge we face is putting a coordinated approach together to attract and secure large-scale business during lower transient demand periods that will benefit the destination as a whole. Today Dafam Hotel Management is also will entering position in the booming Indonesian hospitality market, do you also want to expand your new property here and what s your completion scheduled by the end of 2016, do you think that Indonesia still need more new hotel to be built here? For Dafam Hotel Management (DHM) we are already open around 19 hotels in Indonesia and other 20 project is still on pipeline, 10 hotels will be opened during 2016 and another will be opened by next year, all the hotels are located mostly in secondary city. I think Indonesia is still need more hotels in some city, especially in secondary city and are not focusing only in the big cities. The last question, do you think that to recognize other culture is becoming a compulsory to your profession in hotelier industry? How long have you been working in hospitality industry? How is your emotional relationship to your employees? Strong point in DHM s CSR (Corporate Culture Responsibility) program, it s because will be more impact on Dafam Hotel operations in every city and definitely we always develop as well in certain city, beside my professional position as Founder & Managing Director DHM, I am also as Chairman Central Java Tourism & Promotion. My Experience in Hotel Industry since 1989 - already 27 years. For me our employee is Human Capital as Asset Company and for sure we working as a Team Work, some programs that we did for employee to be more professional in our company. TRAVELTEXT 11

TRAVELTALK ARIEF YAHYA: I NEED A MIDAS TOUCH TO BOOST INDONESIAN TOURISM INDUSTRY LARGE of home works for the Indonesian Ministry of Tourism in a bid to boost tourism sector as the government has set a target of attracting 12 million foreign tourists this year, and 20 million by 2019, such as offering 10 prioritized tourist destinations known as the 10 New Bali to boost the national tourism industry, the new breakthroughs in marketing of Indonesian tourism products, including nation branding, nature, culture, hygiene, and digital technology. T o do this and to remain competitive, Indonesia s Tourism must keep to international standards, Edhie Rianto records the story of Minister Arief Yahya statements. characteristics. They each have their own combination of nature and culture to offer. Such diversity will make us rich in terms of the attractions, culture, and traditions. The uniqueness of each region can be explored. You always said in your tourism promotion that Indonesia offering 10 main tourism destinations dubbed as new Bali? Yes, as I said now the Ministry of Tourism is offering 10 prioritized tourism destinations known as the 10 New Bali to boost the national tourism industry. The term new Bali is an idiomatic expression being used with the expectation that the offered new destinations would attract as many tourists as those visiting Bali Island. The ten prioritized tourism destinations in 2016 are Lake Toba (North Sumatra), Belitung (Bangka Belitung), Tanjung Lesung (Banten), Seribu Islands ( Jakarta), Borobudur Temple (Central Java), Mount Bromo (East Java), Mandalika Lombok (West Nusa Tenggara), Komodo Island (East Nusa Tenggara), Wakatobi National Park (Southeast Sulawesi), and Morotai (North Maluku). I also mentioned that meanwhile, Bali is one of Indonesia s iconic tourism destinations, which attracts some four million tourists a year, or 40 percent of the total tourists visiting the country. Bali is a destination that already occupies a prestigious spot on the worlds tourism map. However, the ten prioritized destinations will not be developed to resemble Bali as each of them has distinct As I acclaimed that the new destinations are expected to boost the country s tourism industry, beyond the world s most famous tourist resort Bali Island. The government has set a target of attracting 12 million foreign tourists this year, and 20 million by 2019. So what your comment from your colleague Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs Rizal Ramli said that the accelerated development of Indonesia s ten top tourist destinations will be carried out partly by using foreign loans? Yes, I heard from Rizal Ramli just like that, and as he also concerning the funding, there will be international loans worth US$500 million as preliminary loans for infrastructure facilities. Well, according to Rizal Ramli the development works of the 10 destinations will need a total funds of some US$3 billion which is expected to be obtained both from foreign loans and the State Budget (APBN).The loans is expected to be receive among others from the World Bank. How do you conducted the re-launching of Wonderful Indonesia brand to further enhance the tourism marketing and promotional efforts on national and international scale? 12 TRAVELTEXT

TRAVELTALK The brand is the official country branding which will be used by all destinations in Indonesia. For instance, Jakarta may use Enjoy Jakarta, however it will be followed by Wonderful Indonesia. Indonesia is still improving its tourism promotion. Various efforts are being undertaken to effectively promote the country including through digital media such as mobile apps, digital campaigns, interactive campaigns, viral marketing (facebook, twitter, youtube, blogs); advertising in thematic magazines; road shows; and also familiarization trips by inviting tour operators and travel writers from a number of targeted countries. Wonderful Indonesia brand that the country has been promoting has been ranked the 47th best in the Travel and Tourism Competitiveness Index of the World Economic Forum (WEF). The efforts and programs the government implemented to promote the country branding have had an encouraging result. I commend the significant achievement of our country branding for being ranked the 47th best this year from the earlier 140th position among 144 countries. Also the recent, Wonderful Indonesia brand has received many awards from different international tourism events and also received worldwide recognition as the fourth most beautiful country in the world. The re-launching of Wonderful Indonesia brand is one of the 10 Quick Wins programs of the President of Republic Indonesia. The other programs are: e-tourism, formulation of tourism promotion contents, national culinary week, acknowledgments to creative people who recycle creative products, digital photo bank, Indonesia Film Festival, etc. In e-tourism sector, we will launch the digital cinema and online cinema so that cities and regencies in Indonesia that are yet to have movie theatres can also watch tourism movies. The program will be first launch in three area: Banjarbaru in South Kalimantan, Bukittinggi in West Sumatra, and Banyuwangi in East Java. That I believe the strength of tourism attraction consists of three elements which are nature, culture, and manmade. These three elements will be developed as national prime tourism products. Nature has 60% potentials and will be developed through marine tourism, ecotourism, and adventure tourism. Culture, has 35% potentials and will be developed through heritage tourism, religious tourism, culinary, and shopping. Meanwhile, manmade that has 5% potentials will be developed through MICE, events, sport tourism, and integrated area tourism. Can you explained how do the digital marketing is more effective compared to the non-digital marketing that you believe? Digital marketing has 60% more effectiveness and costs 60% compared to the non-digital marketing, this means three times more effective than the non-digital marketing. In order to achieve the target of the total number of 20 million international tourists in 2019, the government is also taking a number of breakthroughs including providing short term visit free visa policies, and also simplifying yachts and cruise ships permits to enter Indonesian waters. So, do you also have a plan to develop in e-tourism sector in the strength of your tourism attractions? How do you expect that Indonesian to earn US$4 billion from marine tourism target? The Indonesian government has set a target to earn US$4 billion from marine tourism this year. It is ironic that marine tourism just contributed 10 percent (of the total tourism earnings). Indonesian marine tourism potential is huge and surpasses that of Malaysia, which earned 40 percent of its tourism revenue from marine tourism. We will double the target (of marine tourism revenue) from 10 percent to 20 percent over the next five years. The foreign exchange earnings from marine tourism are expected to increase from US$1 billion to US$4 billion. Because two-third of the world s coral reefs exist in Indonesia. TRAVELTEXT 13

HOTELNEWS SUDAMALA RESORTS WILL OPEN 50-VILLAS FIVE STAR DIVING RESORT SUDAMALA Villas and Dive Resort will be the only Indonesian owned and operated luxury resort in this region, which is tipped to become one of the region s hottest destinations in the next few years, located a stone s throw from the world heritage-protected wonders of Komodo. According to Sudamala Resorts Director Emily Subrata said Komodo National Park is located in the centre of the Indonesian archipelago, between the islands of Sumbawa and Flores, and was set up to protect the only known habitat of the unique and fearsome Komodo dragon (Varanus Komodoensis), huge monitor lizards that can bring down a cow or adult human, and represent a living link to the dinosaurs. The national park was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1986 and includes three major islands: Komodo, Rinca and Padar, as well as numerous smaller islands creating a total surface area (marine and land) of 1 817km. It is also home to the orange-footed scrub fowl and the Timor deer, as well as one of the richest marine environments including coral reefs, mangroves, sea grass beds, seamounts, and semi-enclosed bays, harboring more than 1,000 species of fish, some 260 species of reef-building coral, and 70 species of sponges. Dugong, sharks, manta rays, at least 14 species of whales, dolphins, and sea turtles also make Komodo National Park their home, she said. Emily also mentioned that Sudamala Resorts currently operates Sudamala Suites & Villas, Sanur, Bali and Sudamala Suites & Villas, Senggigi, Lombok, luxury boutique experiences distinguished by their heart for art, artisans, and authentic adventures that connect guests deeply with destinations and cultures. We are talking about very pristine and protected dive sites. Sea turtles, manta rays, mum and dad sharks deposit the baby sharks in the local mangrove. We have established our dive centers at Sanur and Lombok and this will be the extension of that as well as the jewel in our crown, she added. She also explained that we must be as mindful and sustainable as we can. We will be using recycled materials where we can. We will need to generate our own power and desalinate our own water, so it s a big undertaking. Sebayur Island, 30 minutes on boat from the nearest domestic airport of Labuan Bajo, is still quite remote, with the biggest resort on the same island now about 25 rooms. It s an exciting part of the world to visit; Flores itself is 450km long and you have triplecolored crater lakes, smoke belching volcanos, and at the other end they still harpoon sperm whales like in Moby Dick. Komodo is like a real life Jurassic Park, so that will be a big draw of course. But mostly, it s going to be about the diving. She said the national park and surrounding islands were pure diving nirvana and guests would encounter an other-worldly wonderland with architecture in the vernacular Labuan Bajo style, reminiscent of Papuan architecture, lush tropical jungle and TRAVELTEXT 17

REGIONALNEWS AUSTRALIA-INDONESIA BOOSTING TOURISM AND ECONOMIC GROWTH AUSTRALIA is expanding efforts to encourage two-way tourism between Australia and Indonesia as a key driver of shared economic growth and more knowledge of each other s country. According to Australian Ambassador to Indonesia Paul Grigson recently said tourism powers economies and supports communities. We want to increase tourism in both directions. The Indonesian Government has already recognized the potential economic boost a strong tourism industry can deliver. Australian tourism can help Indonesia realize that vision. More than a million Australians visit Indonesia every year. Australian tourists contribute Rp18 trillion or around AUD$1.8 billion a year to the Indonesian economy, Ambassador Grigson said. He said as Indonesia seeks to develop its tourism industry beyond Bali, ease of travel is integral to its success. Indonesia has already experienced a 19 percent increase in tourists from countries which were granted visa free access in 2015. Beyond these economic benefits, tourism builds links between people. It challenges stereotypes. It opens up new worlds and greater understanding. I want more Indonesians to visit Australia. We have world class cuisine, galleries and unique experiences. With famous wildlife, fabulous wine and fantastic weather, Australia beats any other destination, he explained. Meanwhile Australia was the tenth most popular destination for Indonesian tourists in 2014 with a total of 149,800 visitors, up 7.6 percent from 2013. More Indonesians travelling to Australia will make expanded flight routes between Australia and Indonesia more viable in the long-term, bringing benefits to both our economies. Indonesian investors may also be missing out on opportunities to capitalize on some of the major tourism infrastructure projects currently underway in Australia. In 2014 alone, investment in the Australian tourism industry was valued at US$53.7 billion. The more Australians and Indonesians experience each other s countries, the deeper their connections become, he stated. Grigson also mentioned that the tourism industry is integral to the prosperity of both our countries. Now is the time for us to reach out to each other as neighbors and shape our futures together. A quarter of all tourists to Bali are Australian. We want to see more Australians come to Indonesia and experience sunrise at Mount Bromo, taste the spices of Padang and watch the sunset at Borobudur, Grigson added. 18 TRAVELTEXT
