FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS SWISS PASSES Question: Do I have to use a travel day on my Flexipass in order to receive a bonus partner discount? Answer: If the bonus if FREE then yes, a day will be taken from your pass. If a discount is offered then no, a day will not be taken from your pass. Question: Do disabled / blind passengers get a discount? Answer: No. Question: Can I bring my dog on the train and is there a charge? Answer: Yes, dogs are allowed in 1st and 2nd class sitting or lying on the floor. However, a ticket is required. The fare is 50% of a 2nd class ticket. Question: Can I exchange or extend my Swiss Pass when I am in Switzerland? Answer: An exchange can only be done if it is an upgrade, for example from 2nd to 1st class or from 4 days to 8 days. The period of validity can only be extended if the Swiss Pass is exchanged. This can be done at most SBB-railway stations in Switzerland for the difference of price plus a supplement of about US$20. SWISS FAMILY CARD: Question: What is the exact policy for the Family Card? Answer: Children from 6 to under 16 years of age travel free if accompanied by at least one parent. A parent is defined as a father, mother, stepparent, foster-parent or a legal guardian. An uncle, aunt, grandfather, grandmother, godfather or godmother do NOT qualify as parents. Question: Is there a limit to how many children per adult? Answer: No, but the adult has to be the parent or legal guardian of all listed children. Question: How do the conductors know? Answer: The conductors may ask for a legal proof. Legal proof can be a passport, a birth certificate or an I.D. for legal guardians. Parents who have a different family name than their children should have a birth certificate ready. Question: If the children want a reservation, does the Family Card still work? Answer: Sure, children are allowed to get a reserved seat even though they are traveling for free. The Family Card is their ticket. Question: Does the reservation fee apply to children traveling on the Family Card? Answer: Yes. The reservation fee or supplement for scenic trains has to be paid by every person traveling.
