Enjoying the exhilaration of steering your own snowmobile, you will spend three full days driving across deep snow and frozen lakes, on an Arctic adventure of a lifetime. Beginning in Muonio, in northwestern Finland, you ll travel in the company of an experienced guide, overnighting in remote wilderness cabins beneath, hopefully, skies ablaze with the magical displays of the Northern Lights. Travelling between 80-100 kilometres a day (weather and conditions permitting) you will experience the thrill of deep powder and high adrenaline, as you travel through Europe s last remaining wilderness. Spending your evenings enjoying the serenity and peace of remote wilderness cabins, this is a chance to travel deep into the heart of a wild, winter wonderland, where relaxing saunas and Lappish hospitality provide a fitting end to the day s adventure. ITINERARY DAY 1: KITTILÄ - MUONIO Arriving at Kittilä airport today you will then transfer the short distance on to Muonio, lying in the far northwestern corner of the country. Arriving at the Torreseippi Lodge in time to enjoy a welcome dinner, you'll then spend this evening in a cosy cabin close to the magnificent landscapes of the Pallas-Yllästunturi National Park. (D) DAY 2: MUONIO - SNOWMOBILE EXPEDITION Following breakfast you'll receive a detailed briefing and instructions for the adventure ahead from your local guide. After being issued with your essential outdoor equipment, you will then pack your gear in the snowmobile and set off (your main luggage remaining in Harriniva). Driving some 100 kilometres today, you'll cross a landscape of frozen lakes and snowcovered forests, heading towards the Norwegian border where a warm sauna and a welcome dinner will be waiting at a remote wilderness cabin. (B,L,D) DAY 3: SNOWMOBILE EXPEDITION Departing after breakfast, your adventure takes you into the surrounding treeless fell region this morning, where you will learn the tricks of driving through deep powder. Lunch will be prepared along the route and, depending on weather conditions and the abilities of the group, the aim is to cover between 80-100 kilometres today. Day's end sees you settling down for dinner and a welcome sauna amongst the small community of Galdotieva, close to the Norwegian border. (B,L,D)
DAY 4: SNOWMOBILE EXPEDITION - MUONIO Turning back towards Muonio this morning, your final day on the snowmobiles takes you across another 100 kilometres of dramatic Arctic scenery today. By now the muscles will be aching, but you'll be handling the machines like a pro, as you head towards a final night at the Torreseippi Lodge, where a cosy cabin and a delicious dinner of local Lappish specialities will be waiting. (B, L, D) DAY 5: MUNIO - KITTILÄ Following breakfast you will transfer back to the airport today for your flight home. (B)
