This ODR classic itinerary takes us to Austria s towering Tux Alps above Innsbruck. We will complete a snowshoe traverse from the town of Navis to the high country Lizumerhutte, nestled in a stunning valley surrounded by massive snow-covered peaks. The combined elevation gain and loss, distance and exposure to the elements demand a high level of fitness. You should be comfortable carrying an overnight pack in the mountain terrain before signing up for this tour. Backcountry skiers encouraged as well! Limited space available. Chamonix, France is one of the finest and most famous winter sport destinations in the world. Towering granite spires flank endless varieties of ski terrain. Mont Blanc looms above the mountain village where we ll stay in private accommodations. Waterfall ice climbing instruction will be provided or you may choose to ski down the mountains instead of climb up them! Meals and lift tickets not included. Crisp winter area and bright red sandstone set the backdrop for this exciting and scenic day hike around cliffs and crags surrounding the village of Dahn. Bring your boots and a sack lunch and join us in the forest for a full day of hiking! Join us for a fun-filled Martin Luther King holiday at our local mountain. Erbeskopf is located only 45 minutes away from Ramstein Air Base and features 3 ski slopes serviced by 2 lifts, 2 sled runs (600 & 800 meters long), a restaurant and a large snowman building arena! Bring your sleds, friends and family to enjoy endless possibilities of fun in the snow! Ever heard of an Athabascan Snow House, also known as a quinzhee? These large snow shelters can house whole families and make great shelters from snowball fights! Join Ramstein Outdoor Recreation as we seek local snow accumulations sufficient for a playful family day out in the Palatinate Forest just south of Ramstein Air Base. Bring your throwing arm, carrots to eat, and save one for your snowman s nose. Hot drinks provided. Bring your own lunch and snacks. Black Forest, White Snowshoe 21 January 11 February Time: 0700-1900 Cost: $39 Ages: 10+ with parent Includes: Transportation, equipment and instruction. We will select a unique Black Forest destination to explore by snowshoe! Location will be determined based on conditions in the region. Trips will range from 8-12 kilometers with stops for hot beverages (provided), snacking and taking in the sights along our route. Bring your own snacks. A unique opportunity not to be missed! Mosel Heights Trail 24 March Time: 0800-1800 Cost: $35 Ages: 10+ with parent Includes: Transportation and guide. Explore one of Europe s oldest hiking paths along Germany s most romantic river - the Mosel. Along the journey we will pass medieval castles, countless vineyards and vistas of magnificent natural beauty. The largest ski area in northeast France offers more than 220 hectares dedicated to skiing in the heart of the Ballons des Vosges. Lift tickets are less than 30 euro per person and there are 32 different slopes all within a day s drive from Kaiserslautern! We will depart bright and early to make it to the resort for fresh tracks, spending the full day skiing and then return that evening. Half price ski/snowboard equipment rental is available to participants during normal fitting hours (1 hour before store closes) for three days prior to trip departure. Half price rental not included in trip registration fee. Mountain Biking: 31 March Time: 0800-1600 Cost: $29 Ages: 12+ with parent Includes: Bike rental, instruction and transportation. This course will cover all the skills essential for you to enter the world of mountain biking. An ODR trip leader will guide you through a section of one of Germany s largest forests emphasizing key techniques that differentiate true mountain biking from the Huffy you grew up on in the cul-de-sac. This course is designed for those with previous biking experience eager to explore the world of forest roads and single-track trails.

A ten mile long run. 2000 meters of vertical descent. Three mountains over 3000 meters in the ski area. 31 ski lifts. And almost 100 miles of skiable trails... Sölden, Austria is one of Europe s most renowned ski resorts for obvious reasons. Join us on the ski trip of the winter in some of the most spectacular terrain in all the Alps. Meals, lift tickets and ski/snowboard equipment rental are the responsibility of the traveler. Surprise: it s the same angle skiers and riders enjoy making turns on the most. Join ODR on this unique educational opportunity to gain two full days of avalanche instruction with a professional Swiss Mountain Guide. Rock and Rappel (Cave Exploring) 8 April Time: 0800-1900 Cost: $55 Ages: 12+ with parent Includes: Transportation, equipment and instruction. Back by popular demand, Outdoor Adventure Programs is headed into the darkness! Luxembourg is home to many unique rock formations in the Mullerthal Forest, and we will explore some of the lesser known underground areas. Explore multiple different caves including one with a rappel into the black! This trip is not for the faint of heart as we will be climbing, crawling and sliding through the twilight zone alongside other creatures. Participants MUST bring own gloves, secure footwear and a light source they re okay with getting muddy. Clothing must cover full body for warmth and protection. Kayak Skills Clinic 22 January 5 February 5 March 9 April Pre-register by COB Friday prior Time: 1800 2000 Cost: $19 Ages: 10+ with parent Includes: Equipment & instruction. This course will cover all the skills necessary for you to navigate your kayak including basic strokes, the body mechanics of paddling, and how to safely escape from an overturned boat! This is a great chance to prepare for our upcoming kayak trips, or a great way to add variety to your work week at our own aquatic center. Meet at Ramstein Aquatic Center with appropriate swim attire and come ready to get wet! Outdoor Climbing: 10 April Pre-register by COB Friday prior Time: 1730-2130 Cost: $25 Ages: 8+ with parent Includes: Transportation, equipment and instruction. Join us for an exhilarating vertical adventure as we head for the hills to test our hands on some real local sandstone! No experience necessary as we will set up a wide variety of climbs from simple scrambles to fierce fist cracks. Expect great quality climbs, a tranquil setting and great views of the flightline from the edge of the Palatinate Forest! Those with more experience have the opportunity to learn more about anchor building as well. French/German Border Hike 14 April Time: 0800-1800 Cost: $35 Ages: All Includes: Transportation and instruction. Join Ramstein Outdoor Recreation for a day of hiking in the forests of France and Germany. We will hike for about 10 kilometers along steep and, at times, physically demanding trails. The reward of multiple 12th century castle ruins is well worth your efforts! We will have lunch on top of one of the ruins with a commanding view of the surrounding terrain. Fleckenstein Castle is the hike s largest and best preserved; interior access to this ruin has an extra fee so make sure to bring euro. Boppard Klettersteig 28 April Time: 0800-1800 Cost: $35 Ages: 10+ with parent Includes: Transportation, equipment and instruction. Join us on a fantastic cliff-face traverse above the Rhine! On this klettersteig (German for climbing path ) we will be tethered to the wall for safety as we ascend the fixed steel cable and ladder rungs. If at any time the climbing becomes too much, you can parallel the cliff on an adjacent path. This trip is 5 technical kilometers long with an elevation gain of approximately 800 feet. Bring euro for lunch at the gasthaus at the top or to take the gondola back to the bottom! Dress for the weather and bring at least one liter of water in a small daypack. Great photo opportunities guaranteed! Sauer River Canoe 15 April Time: 0800-1800 Cost: $40 Ages: All Includes: Transportation, equipment and instruction. The Sauer River flows along the border of Germany and Luxembourg and provides some spectacular scenery. We will travel to Luxembourg and weave in and out of Germany for 17 kilometers as we meander our way down the river toward Echternach, Luxembourg s oldest city. Dress for the weather and bring plenty of water, snacks and euro for our lunch in the town of Bollendorf along the river! Confidence in the water suggested. Burg Eltz Castle Hike 29 April Time: 0800-1800 Cost: $35 Ages: All Includes: Transportation and instruction. 24 VEHICLE RESALE ODR VEHICLE RESALE LOT BASE LAKE PAVILION & RECREATION 25 25 Utilization of the Resale Lot is open to all Ramstein affiliated active duty Military, DoD Civilians, NAF Personnel, NATO ID holders and U.S. Retired Military (space available). Priority for use will be given to Active Duty, DoD Civilian and NAF assigned to Ramstein Air Base. The Resale Lot is located next to the Northside Chapel. DUE TO LIMITED PARKING, SPACES ARE AVAILABLE ON A FIRST-COME, FIRST-SERVED BASIS. RESALE LOT USER POLICY 1. Vehicles must be operationally registered and capable of passing inspection. Non-operational vehicles may not be placed on the lot. Current vehicle registration must be present at the time of sign-up. The registration must remain current throughout the time the vehicle remains on the lot. 2. The issued pass must be prominently displayed on the dashboard of the vehicle. Renewals must be made prior to the end of the permit expiration period. No refunds will be given for vehicles sold before permit expiration date. 3. Use of the lot is for private sales only. No commercial sales operations are allowed. 4. The resale lot will not be used for long-term storage. No RVs or camping trailers are authorized. 5. Vehicles with an expired permit or no permit (abandoned property) will be removed at the owner s expense. Abandoned property will be transferred to the custody of the Base Supply Property Disposal Officer and be subject to disposal IAW DOD Regulation 4160.21, chapter 4, paragraph 40. 6. Spaces are numbered and assigned individually DO NOT PARK IN ANOTHER SPACE. If someone has parked in your assigned space, please park in an unnumbered spot adjacent to one of the numbered rows and notify Ramstein Outdoor Recreation. 7. A $14 or $20 fee is charged per 7 or 14 days, respectively, to place a vehicle on the Resale Lot. This fee includes the date of reservation. All fees are non-refundable. Once the registered vehicle has been removed from the Resale Lot permanently, please contact Ramstein Outdoor Recreation so that the pass may be checked back in. Violations of the user policy will result in termination of the permit, removal of the vehicle from the Resale Lot and appropriate notification of chain of command. Neither the U.S. Air Force nor Outdoor Recreation is responsible for any loss or damage to vehicles or possessions as a result of having one s vehicle parked on the Resale Lot. Only one permit authorized per vehicle, not transferable. Looking for a place to host your next family gathering or unit function? Base Lake facilities can be reserved for groups and/or special events. Reservations must be made in person at the Outdoor Recreation facility. The POC will be responsible for completing the reservation form and paying the required cleaning deposit. The deposit is fully refundable if the area is left in the condition it was rented. Facility reservations may be made six months in advance, not counting the current month (i.e. July reservations can be accepted beginning the first day in January). DAY OF RENTAL: Ramstein Outdoor Recreation staff will conduct pre-inspection of facility and reservation area and mark as reserved. If you need to cancel or reschedule your event, please contact ODR as early as possible so as to allow the time slot to be made available for reissue. RULES AND REGULATIONS The Base Lake and picnic areas are not staffed and are open to the public 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Base Lake users must ensure that all areas are cleaned prior to departure and trash is placed in the designated receptacles. Patrons are not permitted to drive or park within the fenced Base Lake area without the approval of the Outdoor Recreation Director. Alcohol is not permitted at the Base Lake. Pets are permitted in the Base Lake recreation area but must be kept on a leash and under control at all times. Pet owners will be responsible for cleaning up after their pets. Swimming, wading and associated in-water sports are prohibited. Fishing and boating are prohibited if not in conjunction with an organized Outdoor Recreation event. Overnight Camping and open campfires are prohibited if not in conjunction with an organized Outdoor Recreation event. Designated grills are located throughout the area and are available for public use.

26 RAMSTEIN AQUATIC CENTER The Ramstein Aquatic Center has three indoor pools, which allow for year-round swimming. Both the facility and pool temperatures are kept in the 80s, making it seem like summer year-round. This beautiful facility offers a 25 meter fitness pool with lap lanes, a diving board, wading pool for the little ones and a recreation pool (which reaches up to three feet deep) that has water slides and a playground. Swim Challenge 2018 The Swim Challenge is an at your own pace program designed to get you the extra mile.
