London by the Underground A SIGHTSEEING MAP / GUIDE London by the Underground shows you how to go to more than 50 points of interest easily and inexpensively by using London s excellent Underground system, also known as the Tube. The official map of the London Underground is shown on the other side of this guide. How to Go to Points of Interest on the right shows exactly how to walk to these points from the nearest Underground stations. Use the Underground lines and stations indicated. Maps of points of interest on the right show streets, landmarks and Underground stations and are oriented to enable you to easily walk to points of interest. Since some stations may have multiple exits to choose from, some re-orientation to the maps may be necessary at exits. The Underground Buy tickets from self-service machines or ticket offices. Fares are based on zones. Buy a One Day Travelcard for two, four or all six zones. The Travelcard is good for unlimited off-peak travel after 0930 weekdays and all day weekends by Tube, Bus or Train throughout the zones selected. A seven day card is available (passport photo required). The Underground is open 0530 to 0030 M-Sa and 0730 to 2330 Su. Insert ticket into gate and retain for onward travel and exit. Each Underground line is named and color-coded. Choose the line and be sure to go to the correct platform for the direction you want to go. Avoid rush hours, late night travel and empty cars. As in all big cities, be alert for pickpockets and keep valuables in a safe, hidden place.
