Backfiring from the chair: The Route 66 show at the Barnyard was an absolute success, an evening enjoyed by all. The next show is The Classic Rock Show on 11 August 2013, one show only. Peter has pre booked a table for 12, if you want to attend I suggest you get your seat by paying Peter ASAP as these tickets sell fast. Tickets are R100 per person, seriously kak cheap for an evening at the Barnyard. My utmost thanks to Peter for doing all the bookings and planning for these events, they really are worthwhile! I have taken the liberty of having badges made for the E.T run, cost is R50. 00 per badge. For those who attended, they will be available after 23 July 2013. These badges are ABS, resin domed badges with butterfly fixing pins. The next Ulysses East Rand trip is to Katse Dam, organised by Nigel for the weekend 30 August to 1 September. Deposits need to be paid before end July. Please contact either Nigel or myself for more information. We already have a lekker group confirmed, don t miss this one. The T shirts have been ordered, we are expecting delivery by the end of next week so hang in there. Unfortunately as it is a small order we are at the bottom of the priority list, but I am hounding them daily. I have opted for the SA made one as they have assured me that the quality is of the highest. I have included some more photos of the E.T. trip as requested. For those who are not going on the Katse Dam trip, there is a run in aid of the SPCA on 1 September 2013, details will be posted in this news letter. Captains Log: Sunday 14 th July 2013. After a five week layoff from riding because of a very sore knee, I was determined to get a ride in even with only a slight improvement in the health of the knee. This was probably a mistake as I now have even worse knee pain. Nonetheless, I managed to get the bike out on Sunday morning and trundle down to Bimbo s diner at around 7H45am to find six fellow Ulysseans sitting in the warmth of the diner. Eventually I think I counted seventeen riders assembled at 8H00am and ready for takeoff to The Jockey Club in Raaintjesfontein near Midrand for breakfast. The riders I remember were: Rob BMW 1200 RT Mike O D & Lucia Triumph 1050 ST Mike C BMW 1200 GT Gansen Honda 1300 Pan Euro Joe & Tish Suz Busa 1300 Paul Triumph 900 Bonniville Visitor BMW 650 Douglas Honda 100 F/blade Trevor Triumph 1700 cruiser Nick Honda 1200 VFR Lionel Kawa 1400 GTR Andre Suz 1300 Busa Allen Tin Quad Andrew Suz 1500 Boulevard Nigel BMW 1300 R. I am pretty sure that I have remembered all riders here but my apology is tendered and forgiveness sought if I have omitted anyone! Young Allen is also still nursing bad legs and came in his cage to meet and greet the manne & poppies on the morning before the ride. Wells, Anita and several stalwarts such as Graham Ivor and Grant were missing this morning so Andre took the lead reins and led the motley crew out towards Bapsfontein. The planned route was Bapsfontein, turning left towards Kempton Park, onto the R21 and taking the Olifantsfontein road across past the Winnie Mandela settlement to the Old Joburg road at Midrand. By this time the air was frosty with bright sunlight so conditions were very acceptable for a nice short ride. Andre kept the cruise speed at 140kph which was pleasant riding and not too cold and everyone kept up with minimal waiting at the turn-off s. There was a roaring fire going at the Jockey Club restaurant and the large room was nice and warm. Breakfast was ordered and bottomless coffee served while we waited. Nigel brought the table to attention to mention a forthcoming ride to Katse Dam in Lesotho, staying at Fouriesburg Country Inn for anyone interested. Mike C and I did the Lesotho run a couple of years back and the roads and scenery are stunning. After a very nice hot breakfast, we mounted our trusty steeds and headed home using the R21. Anyway, my leg problem persists this morning and whatever I did yesterday has not improved the damn knee so I am back on the anti-inflammatory capsules. Hopefully things will have improved by next week and I can ride again. Until next week when I ll see-ya (disappearing) in da mirrors, Take it easy! Twisty Two. *How to get to Heaven from Ireland: A true story from an Irish Sunday-school Teacher. I was testing children in my Dublin Sunday school class to see if they understood the concept of getting to heaven. 'I asked them, ' If I sold my house and my car, had a big garage sale and gave all my money to the church, would that get me into heaven?' 'NO!' the children answered. 'If I cleaned the church every day, mowed the garden, and kept everything tidy, would that get me into heaven?' Again, the answer was 'NO!' 'If I gave sweets to all the children, and loved my husband, would that get me into heaven?' Again, they all answered 'NO!' I was just bursting with pride for them. I continued, 'Then how can I get into heaven?' A little boy at the back shouted out: 'YUV GOTTA BE FOOK N DEAD FUST' They re a curious race, the Irish. Two old guys talking: One said to the other: "My 85th birthday yesterday. Wife gave me an SUV" Other guy: First guy: "Wow, that's amazing! Imagine, an SUV! What a great gift!" "Yup. Socks, Underwear and Viagra!" Not for use by under forties Age restriction 40 SNLV 5
