WHERE WHEN TO GO Azura Benguerra is the second largest island in the Bazaruto Archipelago (11km x 5.5km), lying 15km northeast of Vilanculos. Temperatures at Benguerra differ from month to month. January - March: Lots of sunshine but hot and humid with some possible rain. Temperatures range from 28 32 degrees. April - June: Lovely beach weather, sunny and dry with little to no rainfall. Temperatures range from 20 30 degrees. July & August: Winter months but still sunny and warm. Guests will require something to keep off the chill in the evening. Temperatures range from 15 26 degrees. September & October: Sunny warm weather with rain very unlikely. Temperatures range from 18 30 degrees. Flight time is 2 hours. There are also regular flights from Maputo to Vilanculos As of the 22 March 2013, SA Airlink will operate flights from Johannesburg to Vilanculos on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays departing at 10h30. As of August, flights will be introduced on Tuesdays and Saturdays too. PLEASE NOTE that flight schedules are subject to change without notification. We recommend that you contact the respective airline directly to receive an update schedule before confirming your trip. FLIGHTS BETWEEN VILANCULOS BENGUERRA ISLAND: A state of the art Eurocopter transfers passengers from Vilanculos straight to the helipad at the property with a flight time of 10-15 minutes. DIVING From the beginning of October to the end of November it is the spawning season which affects the availability of fish due to netting laws, Azura asks for understanding over this period and the importance of preserving natural resources. The training pool is perfect for refreshing your diving skills or even trying out snorkelling before you head off to the reefs, and for training they offer a full range of courses and have a PADI Instructor. There are many activities on offer for children staying at Benguerra such as: Diving for kids (for children aged 8 10) can learn how to dive on the Bubblemaker course diving in the pool with a fully qualified PADI instructor, receiving a fun crew pack when they have completed the course. For children 10 years and over, they can do a Discover Scuba course which includes a sea dive to a limited depth. There is also an option to do the PADI junior open water course. We recommend that guests consult their local physician prior to travelling. Guests coming to Mozambique from countries that are known to be at risk of yellow fever (including Kenya, Tanzania & Zambia) are now required to present vaccination certificates.
