QUEENSLAND ULTRALIGHT ASSOCIATION OCTOBER 2007 NEWSLETTER Watts Bridge Memorial Airfield, Silverleaves Road via Toogoolawah, Qld Sponsored by : ACOUSTIC TECHNOLOGIES EXCELLENCE IN PROFESSIONAL AUDIO (07) 33764122 WWW.atprofessional.com.au On Saturday morning of September the 22 nd three aircraft flew into Watts Bridge for an informal get together at the QUA hangar and a cup of coffee or tea. One Jabiru flew down from Gympie, and the other aircraft flew in from Caboolture, including George and Anna Perez in their Jabiru. The other aircraft was a yellow and red Whitman Tailwind imported from USA. Later in the morning the group flew across to Caboolture to meet for a BBQ in one of the hangars. The above photo shows some of us enjoying the sunshine and a cuppa at the QUA hangar. The QUA Clubhouse Development Application has been approved by the Queensland Water Board. The application will be forwarded to the Esk Shire Council and the builder on its return, after being signed off by the Water Board.

SATURDAY AT WATTS CONTINUED The above photos show some of the aircraft that flew into Watts with George and Anna. Above we have a Jabiru and the Whitman Tailwind. On the left we have Sandy s Stolp Starlet and your editor s Himax that were flying as well at Watts. Below is the group that flew in to Watts, at their BBQ at the Caboolture hangar. The above photos are courtesy of George and Anna Perez and your editor. NEXT QUA MEETING ON MONDAY 1 ST OCT. AT 07.30 pm ALL MEMBERS ARE INVITED TO ATTEND THIS MONTH

MYSTERY AIRCRAFT I d like to thank the half dozen members who took the time to inform the editor of the identity of the above aircraft that was present at the recent Bundaberg Airshow. It is a BAE Hawk 127 as operated by 76 Squadron in the RAAF with a local prefix of A27 for training operations. THIS MONTH S MYSTERY AIRCRAFT This month s aircraft is a small, all metal, delta, flying wing that is really unique. The question would be, as to its identity and country of origin. No doubt some brave soul has placed his butt in the hot seat and test flown this strange machine.

Moved Mike Smith Seconded -- Colin Thorpe Passed PRESIDENT S REPORT The clubhouse project development application has been passed to the Water Board for approval. A drainage plan needs to be prepared and sent to the Esk Shire Council. The AGM is planned for the next QUA meeting. TREASURER S REPORT General Account -- $ 2,500.00 Westpac Account -- $23,629.00 Total -- $26,129.00 The NAB Maximizer Account has been closed and the funds have been transferred to the Westpac Term Deposit. SECRETARIES REPORT WATTS BRIDGE REPORT TECHNICAL FORUM GENERAL BUSINESS SPECIAL THANKS MEETING CLOSED Some new correspondence with several advertisements. The Festival of Flight was very wet. The Sunday was better with a good turnout. The entry road was damaged by the visitors and various trucks due to the wet weather. The airfield grass is growing again so more mowing is required. Cheryl Brown is working on another $2,000.00 grant for a 800 litre tank and pump for firefighting purposes. A question was asked regarding failures of the Jabiru s main undercarriage. It was reported that there have been some failures of the rear undercarriage bolts to date, but no failures of the main gear legs have occurred. An expansion to the worldwide GPS system is being planned with up to one hundred new satellites launched per year as the network expands to include another four systems as well as the current two already in place. Many of the new satellites will operate over Australia so improvements are expected in the speed of operation and coverage. This expansion is being driven by the needs of industry.. Two of the hangar tenants are behind in their rent and need to be followed up. to Robin Salisbury for preparing the supper this month. 08.35pm
