DINNER SPEAKERS L. Timothy Terry The Terry Law Firm, Ltd. Tim founded The Terry Law Firm, Ltd. and joined The Whistleblower Action Network in December of 2008. This followed a 17 year career in the Nevada Attorney General s Office in which he served as the Director of the Nevada Medicaid Fraud Control Unit prosecuting fraudulent health care providers. In 1999 Tim was instrumental in the passage of the Nevada False Claims Act and since that time has been involved in over 150 qui tam actions filed under the Nevada and/or Federal False Claim Acts. He served as lead counsel for the State of Nevada in the groundbreaking case of Nevada ex rel Steinke v. Merck that resulted in a nationwide settlement in which Merck paid $400M to state Medicaid programs across the country. As a past President and member of the National Association of Medicaid Fraud Control Units, Tim worked with state and federal law enforcement officials across the country in combating fraud in both the Medicaid and Medicare programs. He served as a state team negotiator in multiple investigations and cases which have resulted in recoveries to taxpayers in excess of $1B including settlements with Bayer, Columbia Healthcare, GlaxoSmithKline, Merck and Tenet Healthcare. Tim s legal career began in 1978 as a law clerk to Nevada Supreme Court Justice Gordon Thompson. From 1979 1981 he served as the Deputy Supervising Staff Attorney for the Nevada Supreme Court and thereafter spent 10 years in private practice in Carson City. In their spare time Tim and his wife Laurel enjoy hiking with their dogs in the eastern Sierra Nevada Mountains. They are also avid fans of the Oakland Athletics and San Jose Sharks. PRESIDENT S MESSAGE Bill Vargo Hello Everyone! If you missed the February dinner meeting you missed a good one. We had a full house to hear Mr. Clark Rucker speak on being ready when opportunity knocks. It was an interesting and thought provoking presentation. This month we have another outstanding dinner speaker, Mr. Tim Terry, of the Terry Law Firm, in Carson City, Nevada. He will be speaking on the False Claims Act. I hope you can attend. I want to thank the Beach Cities members who turned out for our Education Symposium on February 26th. We had a good turnout, excellent speakers, and good question/answer sessions. Also, kudos goes out to the board members who helped prepare for the symposium. I m proud to be a member of this chapter. We do good things. We continue to see increased interest in our chapter. Please come and see your old friends and meet some new ones. If you see someone new, please make them feel welcome. See you on March 9th. Sincerely, Bill Vargo Volume 30, Issue 7 Page 3
