DG Monthly Bulletin District 201V1-4 September 2014-1 Patyah St, Diamond Creek Vic 3089, Australia from District Governor Kevin Tait GREETINGS to you all from DISTRICT GOVERNOR KEVIN and LION CORALIE District Diary Date Sep 01 Sep 01 Sep 01 Sep 03 Sep 04 Event DG Visit to Sebastopol Lions Club DG Visit to Sebastopol Lions Club VDG 2 Visit to Essendon DG Visit to Melbourne Chinese DG Visit to Robinvale, Speed, Woomelang and Ouyen Lions Clubs Gisborne Lions Club Charter Night - District Governor Kevin Tait with President Brian Spaull One of the most satisfying things that come my way as District Governor is recognizing the achievements and milestones of Lions Club members. During my visits in the past month I have had the pleasure of presenting a number of awards, including Monarch Chevrons for service for periods ranging from 10 years to 50 years, and I marvel at the number of service hours these members have collectively put in. Robbie is temporarily residing in Ballarat, and on the night of the meeting he caught the train from Ballarat to Ballan to attend the meeting, and booked a taxi to take him back to Ballarat. How many of us would show this determination to get to a Club meeting? My guess is not many. With this dedication and determination it is no wonder that he regularly gets such great results with his Mint Sales. During the past month the District Governor Team has visited 13 Clubs and attended 2 Club Charter nights. I can t speak for Vice Governors Maureen and Naga, but the hospitality shown to Coralie and myself has been outstanding. Some highlights come easily to mind, one of them being our visit to Birchip. We both had some interesting experience with our name badges. I lost mine whilst refueling at Wycheproof and didn t realize it was missing until 2 days later when I received a phone call from Wycheproof Lions president, John Morrison. My badge was found and passed on to John. No doubt his Club will extract a reward for its return when I visit them. Before we sat down at Birchip, 1st Vice President George Ray, who was running the meeting, realized that he had forgotten his dinner badge. He was about to go back home to get it, but it was a foul night out so Coralie said Don t worry about it George, I will lend you mine, which she did. George proudly wore the District Governor s wifes badge for the full night, despite many of the members referring to him as Coralie. I managed to get a photo of George wearing the badge. I had the extreme pleasure of presenting two Charter certificates, one to the Lions Club of Continued on Page 3... ...from Page 2 Gisborne and District at their function at the Railway Hotel in Macedon and the other to the Lions Club of Alfredton Lucas at the Ballarat Golf Club. Both were excellent and friendly nights and I thank the two Presidents, Brian and Scott, for their hospitality. I wish both Clubs well and hope that all of their members get a lot of enjoyment and satisfaction from their contributions to their respective communities. And a heartfelt thanks to those who contributed so much to the formation of these two Clubs Kevin Tait District Governor. The District Convention will be held in Preston, on the weekend of October 10th-12th, and is hosted by the Northcote Lions Club. Lions Club District Convention 2014. The Darebin Arts & Entertainment Centre is located at the corner of Bell Street and St Georges Road, Preston. The 53 square kilometres that make up the City of Darebin stretch from Melbourne s inner northern suburbs of Northcote and Fairfield out to the traditional middle ring suburbs of Reservoir and Bundoora. With over 55,000 properties, including 55,253 residences and 4,727 commercial/industrial properties, Darebin is among the largest, most diverse communities anywhere in the State. As well as the guest speakers we will include and present a number of video presentations during the convention program featuring club projects and other relevant presentations. The convention is our own District V1-4 Lions convention and we want to recognise and share with clubs their wonderful work. If your club has an interesting or different project coming up in the next 12 months, please contact the 2014 convention chairman Amy Monsma so we may share these stories with other clubs in the district. Come and enjoy a game of barefoot bowls on Friday afternoon prior to the convention opening ceremony. Games are also available from 12pm onwards on Saturday and Sunday. There is accommodation for all budgets in the local area. Some are walking distance with others being a short trip by tram or car.
