You are joining UAE Trekkers because you want to 1) know you are going with before you leave 2) train with them and 3) Get the support in gear to ensure you are fully prepared. Though we understand that people travel for work, and do fitness activities on their own, please make every effort to attend at least some of the training sessions, if not all. Training Hikes: Your training hikes will be scheduled starting in October and will include: Wadi Bih Jabal Qatar Jabal Shams Summit There will be other hikes scheduled, but we recommend these three as the est step up hikes that are realty important for you to do. Though the training hikes are an important part of your training, they are charged separately, at discounted rates. Gear Checks and Final Briefing: This will be the session where you will have your duffle packed, ready and checked to make sure you have everything. You will also get some tips on how to pack quickly and what to expect with the Diamox. Tanzania Visa Amy can arrange all of your visas from the Abu Dhabi office. Any possible issues are all dependent on nationality. Apply early. Travel Insurance: Cancellation Policy of UAE Trekkers As soon as you send me your deposit and buy your plane tickets you should make sure that you have travel insurance. This will cover you in any eventuality against costs for cancellation. Your deposit and any monies paid towards UAE Trekkers are fully refundable if you cancel more than 45 days of departure. If we are less than 45 days out: you can no longer get a refund for the deposit, but can get a refund for the balance of the trip should you need to cancel. You can, however, use your deposit towards future treks or international trips with UAE Trekkers. Less than 30 days to departure: your money will no longer be in the control of UAE Trekkers as it will have been paid to the tour operator. The governing policy then becomes that of the tour company and states that any cancellation less than 30 days before departure is not refundable and not creditable. To be on the safe side, buy a policy from World Nomads against any eventuality.
ITINERARY: The seven day Rongai variation is the ideal schedule for this route. Our Tour operator, the Marangu Hotel offers: 1. Our guides are certified in the fully accredited Wilderness First Responder course, and recertified every year by their company. They must pass this training in order to be employed. Arrival to Marangu Hotel: You should arrive early and this will give you a full day to get prepared. You will have a one hour briefing by Seamus in addition to gear checks by Dora. Satellite Phone: +8821644413650 Tour Operator: Marangu Hotel DETAILED ITINERARY: Day 1: Fly from Dubai to Kilimanjaro Airport 2 AM FROM DUBAI Arrive to Kilimanjaro early morning. Acclimatization hike 2 hours. Afternoon/Evening briefing and gear checks. Day 2: Hiking Time: 3 4 Hours. Distance: About 8 Km. Preparation today means a slow start. We will meet our porters and guides and then wait for them prepare the team for us. We will drive for 15 min drive to Marangu park gate for formalities registration and start our hike. The small winding path crosses maize fields before entering pine forest, and then climbs gently through a
forest. The trail is not at all steep, but is rather a gentle hike through beautiful country. The first ight s ap is at Simba camp, at about 2,600 meters. Portable, clean toilets are with you every day at each camp. You will not need to use the permanent outhouses. Day 3: Simba Camp to Second Cave Hiking Time 2 3hours climb, 2 hours acclimatize Early rise to complete our trek to Second cave (3450M ) for hot lunch. Our day however, is not finished. We will use the afternoon to complete our acclimatization hike for another 3 hours. The additional acclimatization is the best way to let your body adjust naturally to the increasing altitude. Day 4 Second Tarn Cave (2600m) Kikelewa Cave (3600m). Hiking Time: 3 4 hours. Acclimatize: 2 hours After breakfast then continues up towards Kibo, reaching Kikelwa Cave at about 3600 metres. The views start to ope up ad you egi to feel you re o a really ig outai! Water is i the oious strea elo the cave, although you might have to wander downhill a way to find some. Overnight at 3rd Cave camp (Kikelewa Caves). Again, though our hike is 4 hours today, we do not stay still in the afternoon. We will complete another afternoon hike higher, and then come back down to sleep. Day 5: Kikelewa Cave (3600) Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m). Hiking time: 3 4 hours. Acclimatize: 2 hours A short but steep climb up grassy slopes offers superb views of this wilderness area. The vegetation zone ends shortly before you reach your next camp at Mawenzi Tarn spectacularly situated beneath the towering spires of Mawenzi. Spend the afternoon acclimatizing and exploring the area. Day 6: Mawenzi Tarn Camp (4330m) Kibo Hut (4700m). Hiking Time: 4 5 hours. Continue ascending on the east side of Kibo crossing the saddle between Mawenzi and Kibo taking 4 to 5 hours to reach Kibo Hut. The remainder of the day is spent resting in preparation for the final ascent, which begins around midnight. Overnight at Kibo Camp. We o t do aother aliatizatio hike today, we will need our rest. Day 7: Midnight Summit Attempt, Kibo Hut (4700m) Uhuru Peak (5895m) Horombo Hut (3720m). Hiking time: 8-10 hours to reach Uhuru. 3 hours to descend to Kibo. Rest, and descend another 3 to Horombo. Distae: k s aset k s deset. You will wake up around 11 pm for your summit attempt. The first section of the trail consists of a rocky path. The path then zigzags up to Gilla s poit 8, hih is loated o the rater ri. Fro Gilla s Poit you will normally encounter snow all the way up to Uhuru peak (5895m), the highest point in Africa. before the 3-hour descent back to Kibo hut for a short rest. After no more than 2 hours, descend to Horombo hut (3 hours) where you will spend the night. It will be warmer and so much easier to breathe here.
Day 8: Horombo Hut (3720m) Marangu Gate (1980m). Hiking Time: 6 hours. Distance: About 27 Km. After breakfast you continue your descent (6 hours), passing the Mandara hut, down to the Marangu gate. You now drive back Moshi (15 minutes) where your trekking tour ends. Day 9: Wake up breakfast, relax, leave for Dubai at noon.
