Frequently Asked Questions Summerset Adventure Tours 1. How many bags can I take? One checked bag is free up to 50 pounds. You are responsible for carrying all your bags. Travel light!!! Only bring what you are comfortable carrying/transporting. One personal item on plane: No charge One bag carry-on: No charge One bag checked: No charge Size and Weight Per Bag Allowed* 45 in/ (carry-on) 62 in (checked) 50 lbs (checked) 2. How much money do I need? The prices in Europe are similar to the United States. The Euro fluctuates daily. Check on-line for conversations. You ll be responsible for most lunches and dinners. Almost every place will accept credit cards, but you should also purchase Euro s. We recommend bringing a credit card or debit card and getting some cash at an ATM machine. ATM machines give you the most current rate of exchange. There are ATM machines everywhere. Call your credit card company and debit card company before you leave to let them know you are leaving the country. Ask them what your fees and charges will be. 3. What clothes should I bring? Bring comfortable walking shoes. Clothing is casual, anything you normally wear is fine. A lightweight scarf for men and women is very useful. Be sure you bring a light jacket and clothes you can layer. Bring a pair of gloves and an umbrella. The weather can change quickly. Jeans are OK, or khaki slacks. Shorts are not allowed in churches, and women must cover bare shoulders. Be prepared for possible temperature fluctuations from 50 s at night to 80 s during the day. 4. What are the physical requirements? Be prepared to walk A LOT! Elevators are almost non-existent on tours, so you must be able to climb stairs. You must be able to walk and/or stand normally for 30-45 minutes AND be able to climb up to 3 flights of stairs AND be able to walk on uneven surfaces AND be able to climb uneven stairs. AND possibly do this more than once a day. 5. Are there bathrooms available? Bathroom breaks will be given at regular intervals during tours, but sometimes because of traffic or location, you may have to wait up to 2 hours or more for a restroom. 6. How do I get a Passport? If you don t have a passport, go to the US post office to get one or go online for more information: www.uspassportnow.com/application 7. Do I need travel insurance? Travel insurance is generally affordable. We offer insurance through our agent. If you purchase insurance, we suggest you understand completely what is covered and what isn t. Read the fine print. 8. Do I tip in Europe? Tipping is usually around 10% at restaurants. Sometimes a service charge has been added to your bill. The service charge has nothing to do with the tip. Tips are included for maids and any meals included in your package. 9. Do I tip my tour guide, driver, and day guides? Yes, of course you do. There is a recommended tip chart on your information sheet. Please make sure you have enough money to tip at the end of the trip. Sometimes we ll have a new driver half way through our tour, but our guide will make sure you know that the driver will be leaving. Your tour guide will be with you every day and we think you ll really enjoy him (or her). We suggest setting aside money early or prior to your trip for tipping. 10. How do I make phone calls to the United States? Contact your cell phone company to set your phone to make calls from Europe. 11. What if we are making our own flight arrangements? How do we find our group? If you are flying separately arrive before the rest of the group. Our group name will be Summerset, and our guide will meet us at the airport and have a sign. Make sure you know the group travel arrival information so you can make your way to the terminal and gate where the group is waiting. Be prepared to find your own transportation to the hotel if arriving later than the group. 12. Will my hair dryer work in Europe? Europe uses 220 volts of electricity, which will burn up your hair dryer or curling iron (and maybe your hair!!). Our hotels will have hair dryers because we are staying in 4 star hotels. Make sure your appliance has a switch for 110 or 220. If not, you can purchase a converter (110-220) at Target or Walmart. 13. Is a 4-star hotel the same as in the United States? No. But they are much better than 2 star or 3 star hotels! 14. Will I be able to do laundry? Bring clothes you can rinse out in your room. There are also laundry-mats available. Also, the hotels will have laundry services. It s ok to wear clothes more than once, remember travel light!

15. Will my valuables be safe in the hotel? Most hotels will have a safe. You may be required to leave a deposit to use the safe. We suggest you leave valuables and jewelry at home. 16. What should I carry on the plane with me? Bring any medicine, money and valuables in your carry-on bag. We suggest a change of clothes (just in case), and any personal items you need. We may be starting the tour before we arrive at the hotel, so be prepared with any items you may need. 17. I m afraid of people who aren t like me. You need to be comfortable around people who speak other languages and have different cultures. You should act comfortable with people who do not look like you. 18. I don t have a roommate. You should consider bringing your own friend/partner or paying the single supplement fee. Summerset is not responsible for finding you a roommate and we do not guarantee that you will get along. If you do find a roommate during Summerset s informational meetings, we suggest you spend some time getting to know the person to see if you are compatible. We suggest going out for coffee and asking if the other person snores, gets up early, stays up late, uses a noise machine, needs the TV on, needs a nightlight, needs total silence, total darkness, likes to talk a lot, doesn t like to talk, likes to read late, likes to drink alot, doesn t drink at all, is messy, is neat, etc. 19. Please let Summerset Adventure Tours know early in the planning stages so you have the proper meals you need. Examples: Peanut allergy, Gluten-free, vegetarian. 21. Please listen to the tour guide. Yes, they DO know more than you! For the safety of everyone, please be quiet and listen to the guide for information and instructions. 22. Yes, you are representing the United States!
