While on this 5-7 hour walking safari, your expectations are sure to be exceeded. If you have an adventurous spirit and a love of wildlife and untamed wilderness, this experience is for you! A naturalist will accompany you from Gibb s with a pair of binoculars, and a ranger will join you from the Ngorongoro Conservation area with a rifle. Most walkers will encounter elephant, cape buffalo, bush pig, and a number of other animals along the way, with a forest of plant and tree life. With over 200 species on the Gibb s Farm bird list you are bound to see an abundance of birds. The walking safari starts at Gibb s Farm, which lies at 1,700 metres (5,500 feet) above sea level. We hike up to the rim of the Ngorongoro Crater, which lies at 2,300 metres (7,500 feet) where our vehicle will meet you with a well-earned, delicious picnic lunch and refreshments before returning you to Gibb s Farm. The altitude and duration of the trek requires you to be in good physical condition. We recommend the following gear for your walking safari: good footwear, long pants, a long sleeve shirt, a light fleece pullover and/or windbreaker, small daypack for your 2 litres of water, a good sun hat, suncreen and insect repellant. Other things you may want to bring include a camera, binoculars and sunglasses. Walking sticks will be provided by your guide. Please take note: This is a full day walking safari ( 5-7 hours). Guests must be in good physical condition. Minimum age is 15 years. Cost: US$ 495 for initial two guests, thereafter US$ 125 per additional guest. This includes - guided walk, transfer from the crater back to the farm, park fees, water and snacks. Availability is subject to track and weather conditions and is not available at all during the months of March to June due to high rainfall. A maximum of 6 guests can be accommodated per walk.
