NATIONALLY ACCREDITED CAMPING STANDARDS BSA has established natinal standards The By Scuts f America has established natinal standards s that each cuncil may appraise its facilities, equipment, staff, service and prgram. The standards must be met, whether r nt the day camp facilities are wned by the cuncil. Cub Scut Day Camp has met these standards every summer! CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP - Ideally encurage participatin f den and pack leadership t strengthen packs s their bys benefit and grw with a gd utdr experience. The daily prgram is centered n Cub Scut fun, safety, achievements in the utdr camping setting. 1. Day camp is FUN with a purpse! 2. It prvides cntinuatin f the Cub Scut prgram thrugh the summer. 3. Helps the bys maintain their interest and needs. 4. Helps prvide a pack the pprtunity t earn the Natinal Summertime Award. 5. Assists in recruiting, training, and inspiratin f present and future Cub Scut Leadership. 6. Assists in the prgressin frm Cub Scuting t By Scuting. 7. ADULT LEADER Shall be an adult 21 years f age r lder f well-knwn character and ability. WHAT SHOULD THE LEADER DO? 1. Be respnsible t the camp staff. 2. Help Scuts and help in prgram areas. 3. Assist and supervise the bys in the den. 4. Teach an appreciatin fr the utdrs. 5. Recmmended training- Yuth Prtectin, Safe Swim Defense 6. HAVE FUN! HOW DOES THE ADULT LEADER DO CAMP? 1. Adult Leaders are required t register and wear a free wristband r purchase a prgram shirt at Headquarters. 2. Be n time with yur den t pening and clsing ceremnies. Use yur Den Ntebk. 3. Attendance sheets are due at the end f the 1st rtatin f each day. Mst Dens turn them in befre the first rtatin. Please turn them in at Headquarters. 4. Assign each participant and Den Chief a buddy. Remember: They are a leader, nt a camper. They cme t camp t help bys wh are having difficulty with crafts r rules fr games. They set the example fr the bys in yur den. Sme day they will be By Scuts and will remember the help they received frm a Den Chief. Live up t the Scut Law. Take rll call every mrning. Mark the "IN" bx fr each by in yur den. Turn the attendance sheets int Headquarters by the end f the 1 st rtatin. Help yur den design a den flag. Help yur den make up a den yell r cheer. Apprval nw has been given fr archery, BB gun, sling sht safety and marksmanship prgrams in Cub Scut Day Camps. Cub Scuts are nt permitted t use any ther type f handgun r firearm. These shting sprts shuld nt be cnducted utside f a Natinally Accredited Camp. SAFETY AND MARKSMANSHIP PROGRAM BB gun (rifle) safety and marksmanship fr prgram use in Cub Scut Day Camp requires a BB gun Range Safety Officer wh has been certified by the lcal cuncil with the help f a Natinal Camping Schl certified Shting Sprts Directr r NRA instructr. WHAT YOU COULD EARN AT CAMP A list will be prvided f all the awards, achievements that the yuth culd pssibly earn during camp. The leaders will need t check ff what their yuth have earned and reprt t their units. 11

CUB SCOUT DAY CAMP EMERGENCY PROCEDURES In case f a MAJOR ACCIDENT r HEALTH EMERGENCY invlving camp participant and/r staff, the fllwing steps will be taken! 1. Tw runners r a call n the radi will be sent t Headquarters. The Camp Directr, Prgram Directr and Medic will respnd t the area. 2. The prgram staff will maintain rder in their areas and cntinue with camp activities. 3. If the Medic, Camp Directr, r Ranger determines that further emergency persnnel r equipment is required, they will call 911 and request apprpriate rescue service. One persn will be sent t the entrance f the site and will direct emergency persnnel t the accident scene. 4. The cuncil ffice, will be ntified by the Camp Directr r Prgram Directr f the parties invlved and the circumstances surrunding the accident as sn as pssible. Ntificatin f the parents will be made by the cuncil staff. 5. If evacuatin f the accident victim r victims is necessary, at least ne staff member in pssessin f apprpriate medical release frms will accmpany the injured t the hspital. 6. The Camp Directr will see that an incident reprt is made f the accident as sn as practical after the ccurrence f the accident within 48 hurs. 7. If the press becmes invlved, nly cuncil prfessinals shall release statements. 13
HEAT STRESS BE AWARE OF THESE SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS When the bdy is unable t cl by sweating, several heat-induced illnesses such as heat stress r heat exhaustin and the mre severe heat strke can ccur, and can result in death. Factrs Leading t Heat Stress High temperature and humidity; direct sun r heat; limited air mvement; physical exertin; pr physical cnditin; sme medicines; and inadequate tlerance fr ht wrkplaces. Preventing Heat Stress Knw signs/symptms f heat-related illnesses; mnitr yurself and cwrkers. Blck ut direct sun r ther heat surces. Use cling fans/air-cnditining; rest regularly. Drink lts f water; abut 1 cup every 15 minutes. Wear lightweight, light clred, lse-fitting clthes. Avid alchl, caffeinated drinks, r heavy meals. Symptms f Heat Exhaustin Headaches, dizziness, lightheadedness r fainting. Weakness and mist skin. Md changes such as irritability r cnfusin. Upset stmach r vmiting. What t D fr Heat-Related Illness Call/send fr First Aid at Headquarters r the Pl immediately. While waiting fr help t arrive: Mve the persn t a cl, shaded area. Lsen r remve heavy clthing. Prvide cl drinking water. Fan and mist the persn with water. If yu bserve any f yur Scuts with ne r all f these signs abve and they are nt perspiring, please spray them dwn wi t h the spray bttles and send smebdy immediately t get help frm First Aid. Be alert fr the Scuts that want t sit dwn t rest. 14
