4 of 6 6/2/2008 12:14 AM Very clean for a hostel as expected for typical swiss hospitality and all staff speak english well. Day lockers are handy having just put down a deposit for the lock. Very close to the main train station and everything is within walking distance (although you'd be able to see everything in one/two days). If walking is not for you then the provided transport pass is handy as well (even though they don't really check for passes if you're traveling within geneva). Comment by Dan January 2007 Clean hostel, although very dated. Receptionist speaks perfect English. Shower and toilets were unisex, which was a bit weird, but overall a nice hostel. Great location and easy to find from station. Comment by Robert S. October 2006 The City Hostel exceeded my expectations. The only thing that it did not offer was free breakfast. The hostel is located a block off the main street, so it is not that noisy at night if you want to open your windows. The rooms are small but clean and the furniture is in good shape. There were several, clean bathrooms located on each floor. They had private shower rooms so that you do not have to undress or change in public. The reception staff was friend and informative. They provide a map of the area with a general list of things to do in Geneva. The hostel is located in a good area. It is about a mile from the train station and can be reached by tram. There are a ton of restaurants in the area offering everything from Thai to African. There is a grocery store (COOP) located in the area. Staff were really friendly. Rooms and bathrooms very clean. Internet access available but not cheap. I was there in June on a particularly hot day. We kept the windows open because there was no air conditioning. Didn't get a very good night's sleep because of the heat and mosquitos entering from the window. Plus, I could hear the trains passing by from the nearby rail tracks. Submit Comment by Julie November 2005 The social room in the basement is a BOMB SHELTER! It's cool, check it out. This hostel has everything you would expect from the Swiss. It's clean and secure and the staff are shyly courteous. Geneva is BORING for backpackers, unless this is the one stop you were waiting for to spend ten grand on a watch. The flower clock is highly over-rated. The Internet, like everything in Switzerland, is very expensive, but there is a whole room of computers available, so no waiting. The main train station, Gare Coravivan, is
5 of 6 6/2/2008 12:14 AM only a ten-minute walk away and a tram stop is one minute away. The hostel was very clean and immaculate. Extremely well cleaned rooms, bathrooms and common areas. Hostel also had a very reasonably priced Internet room with eight terminals. They reduced the price because of competition. The only negative is that the hostel is very popular, so there are a lot of people coming and going, therefore it lacked on the social side. But overall it has a friendly vibe and helpful staff. Don't think twice about staying here! Comment by Maggie L. July 2005 My friends and I stayed at this hostel for one night and it was a pleasant stay. You have to share the toilets and showers but it was ok. The room was small but clean. We arrived quite late (around 11 p.m.) but that was no problem and we were still welcomed by a friendly staff. Another great thing about this hostel is that they have a kitchen for their guests to use. For low-budget backpackers, this hostel is a good choice for its easy-to-find location and good services. It had a great sense of community, great people, it was clean (minus a few hairs in the shower), had a great Internet room (a bit expensive), a place to buy Swiss goods, and cheap phone cards! I loved it! Comment by Anonymous November 2004 I would say this hostel was very clean and your stuff stays pretty safe. The staff were friendly, but you really have to find the right person. There was one guy who was a jerk and he was working during the day so we had to deal with him. The bathrooms and showers were very clean and the location is the best you can ask for if you arrive by train. It's right next to the train station. The rooms were a bit small and so was the kitchen, which only had three stools in it. The movie nights were a good alternative to the otherwise dead nightlife of Geneva. It has friendly staff, it's in a good location, and it's cheap, very clean and has a good-sized Internet room. Plus there are drinks and souvenirs at reception. What else could you ask for?
