AUBREY K. McCLENDON TRIBUTE PROJECT

Aubrey K. McClendon inspired us to do more, to be more than we ever imagined possible. He challenged us to embrace bold and daring concepts, to set the standard rather than meet the standard. Aubrey believed in his city, and in the power of the Oklahoma River to change lives. He instinctively knew that bringing the river to life would bring our city to life, and he invested more than a decade of his life in making it happen. Today, the impact of his leadership has enhanced tens of thousands of lives and reframed the way people around the world view Oklahoma City. His commitment to this singular effort was apparent as he led the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation for more than a decade. OKC s Boathouse District In 2001, Oklahoma City reintroduced water into the dry riverbed today known as the Oklahoma River. City leaders knew that a river flowing through downtown created unlimited potential for the city. But someone had to ask, what s next. Aubrey McClendon immediately embraced the bold vision for a world class urban riverfront and spearheaded the formation of the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation. His unparalleled leadership led to the nearly complete development of the Boathouse District while bringing the Oklahoma River to life. Today the Oklahoma River unites the community rather than divides it and serves as a national model for urban riverfront activation.

Urban High School League Championship under the lights Olympic and Paralympic Hopefuls Youth Outreach Within the 10 years since realizing Aubrey s vision for Oklahoma City s first iconic boathouse, the Oklahoma River exists as an international destination and centerpiece for community pride through numerous world class events, Olympic training, and one-of-a-kind attractions. The Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation s rich array of programming led to the swift infusion of an authentic river culture into Oklahoma City, a pace that is commonly generational in other communities. Innovative youth programming has impacted over 75,000 children in Oklahoma, attracting over $3 million in college scholarships to participants. Adaptive, senior, corporate, collegiate, and high performance programs leverage the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation s Oklahoma River, Lake Overholser, and Lake Hefner facilities to create powerful intergenerational opportunities and set a quality of life standard that would not have been imagined just a decade ago. We are committed to ensuring that this vision and intention for the OKC Boathouse Foundation continues.

Onward & Upward: A Tribute Campaign Paddle Out Ceremony March 5, 2016 The phrase onward and upward is familiar to all who knew Aubrey and expresses the momentum being built to ensure his vision continues by putting the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation on sound financial footing to enable: Ongoing development of the Boathouse District as an iconic, world class destination that elevates Oklahoma City on the world stage while being a premier place to live and work Continuation and expansion of vibrant youth programs that inspire healthy lifestyles and ensure all children and especially those who can t afford it have the opportunities that sports such as rowing and kayaking offer Unsurpassed guest experiences at one of the world s premier urban whitewater and adventure attractions and new Oklahoma City tourism destination Recognition of the commitment to excellence by supporting America s top athletes training in Oklahoma City s Boathouse District with world-class training facilities and coaching Those of us whose lives have been enriched by Aubrey in so many ways also want to create a lasting tribute by naming the newest facility in the Boathouse District the Aubrey K. McClendon Whitewater Center. The facility will house an interactive exhibit and water features that honors his life and legacy while inspiring imagination and bold vision, showcasing the miraculous transformation of the Oklahoma River from ditch to international destination that occurred under his watch.

The $6.0 million of funds raised through the Onward & Upward Aubrey McClendon Tribute Campaign will support powerful initiatives categorized as follows: Onward Sustain the financial operations of the OKC Boathouse Foundation (a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization) to ensure existing Boathouse District facilities and grounds representing $140 million of public/private investment maintain a world class standard that is representative of Aubrey s pride in Oklahoma City Allow the Oklahoma City Boathouse Foundation to meet financial obligations, fund operating reserves, and maintain facilities Guarantee the continuance of youth outreach and Olympic hopeful programming that have helped define the success of the Oklahoma River (funds raised will support the programming for four years) Upward Create an inspiring interactive tribute exhibit and destination attraction within the Aubrey K. McClendon Whitewater Center with a special christening celebration Support the development of a STEM program using the Boathouse District s moving water, mechanical pumps, and human energy to inspire a new generation of engineers, geologists and scientists Leverage the world class facilities of the Boathouse District to create truly unique opportunities for all Oklahoma City Public School middle school students through an innovative new rowing, kayaking, and adventure-based curriculum Advance the annual OKC National Whitewater Festival to serve as a recurring celebration for the world class facilities and attractions that Aubrey helped inspire Plant a memorial grove of trees along RIVERSPORT Drive in the Boathouse District Aubrey K. The Boathouse District is one of a kind in the world because of our one of a kind leader. Navigating whitewater rapids requires quick decision-making, courage, risk taking, and an all in enthusiasm for embracing life. We can think of no better place to honor Aubrey than in the Aubrey K. McClendon Whitewater Center, and no better way to pay tribute to his legacy than to keep his vision alive.
