KEEPING SAFE AND WELL IN CANNES Information for attending the 2016 International Festival of Creativity The safety of our delegates is something we take seriously. Both upfront and behind the scenes, we do all we can to ensure everyone gets the most from their Cannes Lions experience, whilst keeping safe and well. The relaxed environment of the Festival is a key part of its success. But a little forward-planning can go a long way towards helping ensure time is well-spent and incident-free, and that in the unlikely event of a problem the right information is close to hand. It s wise to prepare well in advance. We recommend that you create an information pack for your trip including key Festival details, important contact numbers and an itinerary. We ve created the following document to help answer any questions that might come up. Some of our recommendations may seem obvious, so just use what you need. And if you need any more support or information, please don t hesitate to ask us we re here to help. 1

ESSENTIAL INFORMATION We recommend starting with the following essential information. Contact details If you are attending with collegues, provide details of how to reach each other during the Festival via cell phone or at their hotel/apartment, for each delegate, it s also a good idea to obtain details of who to notify in the event of an emergency. Insurance Give details of the policy provider, what s covered and how to make a claim. Transportation Have your flight details and airport transfers on hand. Accommodation Have the address and contact number of the hotel or apartment booked for the stay, and if applicable, the accommodation details of others in your group. Luggages and suitcases won t be admitted in the Palais so please take them to your hotel or apartment first. Badge collection Delegate badges can be collected by taking booking confirmation details to Registration, which is on the ground floor of the Palais des Festivals, and is open 17-25 June between 08:00 20:00. Registration is only accessible via entrance point 8 for delegates or entrance point 4 for speakers or VIPs. See map on the website for more details. Badges are required for access to all official Cannes Lions activities and should be treated with special care if lost, they can t be replaced. Itinerary Compile details of any planned activities, including venue addresses, start times and whether additional tickets, wristbands or special passes are required. Policies If there are any relevant company policies or procedures in place regarding security, expenses, acceptable behaviour or anything else to remember. How to Cannes Once you re at the Festival, it s a good idea to take a How to Cannes tour to help you find your bearings, especially if you are a first-timer. These take place three times daily and start from the information desks in the basement of the Palais des Festivals. 2

PACKING AND PREPARATION Based on years of experience and feedback from delegates, here s some of the most practical advice to pass on about how best to prepare for Cannes Lions. Clothing There s no official dress code for the Festival and it s generally a casual event. Dressing up for awards ceremonies and in the evenings is common, but not essential. The days are long and delegates cover lots of ground (some of it sandy) which means comfortable footwear is a must. Seasoned Festival-goers recommend rotating between several pairs of shoes and keeping first aid supplies for sore feet on hand. If you re invited aboard a yacht, you ll be expected to remove your shoes, so footwear that can be slipped on and off easily is ideal. Remember to bring some light cover-up clothing and a hat to protect against the midday sun. Electricals Appliances from any region can be used in Cannes, however a European Mainland converter for plugs is required. They can be purchased from the airport, larger supermarkets or an electricals store in Cannes if needed. Remember to charge cell phones overnight there will be limited charging facilities available at the Festival and phones cannot be left unsecured. Personal care items Remember to pack all prescription medications and toiletries, including sunscreen. Any forgotten items can be purchased from pharmacies or supermarkets listed on page 6. Planning your time The key to getting the most from the Festival is to plan sessions you wish to attend ahead of time. Session times and locations may be subject to change, sometimes at short notice, so the best way to keep abreast of what s on and when is to download the official Cannes Lions app. 3

TAKING CARE Cannes is a major tourist centre and frequent host to large-scale, high-profile events. We work with city authorities throughout the year to put in place measures ensuring the safety, security and wellbeing of visitors. We recommend that attendees also take their own reasonable precautions just as they would when travelling abroad on business in any busy, urban environment. Roads Always use the pedestrian crossings on the Croisette, but make sure you also stop and check both ways, every time, before you cross, keeping an eye out for motorcycles and scooters as well as cars. Take extra care at night, when the traffic conditions on the Croisette will change due to road closure on the city side and two-way traffic on the beach side. Outdoors The average midday temperature in Cannes can reach up to 32, so make sure to apply sunscreen, cover up and wear a hat. Avoid swimming alone or at night and be aware that swimming in the sea at night is unwise. In the evening, it s a good idea to use mosquito repellent, and keep some cooling gel on hand to soothe bites. Security It s a good idea to keep important travel documents (tickets, passport etc.) and valuables in a hotel/room safe and close windows before you go out. While out and about, keep bags fastened and don t carry them on the outer side (roadside). Be vigilant about where belongings are at all times and do not leave anything unattended, especially on the beach. Cannes is a beautiful city, with many pretty, quiet backstreets especially in the Old Town. If you are walking back to your accommodation down streets that are not well lit or set back from the main streets, try to arrange to walk back with a collegue or friend. Lost property If you lose something of value when you re in the main Festival venue, please ask any Festival Official to direct you to the lost property office, located in the Palais, by the Entrée des Artistes. If your badge is stolen, you will need to complete a report form and get it countersigned by the Cannes city police in order to replace it. The forms, which are written in French and English, are available from Registration. 4

An English-speaking police officer is stationed outside the Office du Tourisme on the ground floor of the Palais between 10:00 and 18:00 daily in case you have any security concerns. Wellbeing It s important to pace yourself during the Festival week. With everything on offer, the days can be long and intense. A big part of the experience is socialising, but overdoing it, especially in the evenings, can make the next day hard. Consume alcohol responsibly and make sure you look out for the welfare of friends and colleagues The time will fly, so remember to eat properly, get enough sleep and stay hydrated. There are water coolers throughout the Palais and unless marked otherwise, Cannes tap water is safe to drink, so carry a water bottle with you and fill up as you go. Bear in mind that food and alcohol cannot be consumed inside the main theatres in the Palais at any time, but there s plenty of seating outside available for when you need to take a break. If you need supplies, there are a number of large supermarkets and health food stores in the city. Cannes is packed with restaurants and cafés to suit all budgets and there are two cafés inside the Palais where you can buy refreshments and light meals. Minor accidents or illness The location of pharmacies and doctors are listed at the end of this document. Cannes General Hospital has an after-hours and weekend service. Normal visits to a doctor cost around 25 and out of hours consultations cost 60. If you are a European resident, remember to carry your European health card (EHIC). There are also medical staff and/or trained first aiders on hand at the Palais and Cannes Lions Beach. Go to the information desk or ask a Festival Official if you need help. Safety In light of recent events in Europe, delegates should expect bag and badge checks at all official Festival venues and it is vital that you wear your delegate badge at all times. During the Festival, delegates are asked to bring any safety concerns to the attention of police or a Cannes Lions official. Emergencies Call 112 from any phone (landline or mobile) in the event of a serious incident or emergency. Trained operators, conversant in French and English, will either deal with the request directly or transfer the call to the most appropriate emergency service ambulance, fire brigade or police. 5
