UE IQ ALL ABOUT SOUTHERN AFRICA MB ZA MO SWAZILAND > H SOUTICA AFR WELCOME TO SOUTHERN AFRICA! All Out Africa works in four countries in southern Africa, including Botswana, Swaziland, Mozambique and South Africa, some of our projects allow for travel between one or more of these countries. It is a vast area in terms of land area and has varying plateaus and climates from country to country. Most of Southern Africa s landscape is mountainous making it an ideal place for mining of natural resources such as diamonds, gold, iron ore etc. Although English is spoken widely in across most countries, there are several local dialects spoken amongst the people- most are considered Bantu languages, meaning they all derive from a similar base language or variations of Afrikaans, Zulu and Xhosa. CULTURE & HISTORY OUR WORK IN SOUTH AFRICA SWAZILAND December is the hottest month in Ezluwini Valley with an average temperature of 32 C (90 F) and the coldest is July at 9 C (48 F) with the most daily sunshine hours in December. The wettest month is October with an average of 250mm of rain. Southern African countries, although they differ in their histories have some social development trends in common. Southern African countries are amoung the worlds highest HIV/AIDS prevalence rates in the world, with approximately 31% of the population being infected. This has caused thousands of orphaned children, high unemployment rates and stretched family resources. About 66% of the population in some areas, are able to meet basic food needs, and 43% live in chronic poverty. Children are particularly vulnerable and often in desperate need of help and support. Our work aims to help community centres, schools and care points by targeting areas that need drastic assistance. Our community partners aim to provide orphaned and vulnerable children with food, car, preschool education and a safe environment. We also investigate and research into areas of need and raising general and community awareness of the children and their needs. The culture and history of these four countries varies greatly, however southern Africa has a general acknowledgment of Bantu which means together. African communities tend to work in groups and for the greater needs of their families and communities around them. For more information on the culture and history of the countries you will be traveling to, check out our website under Destinations! SOUTHERN AFRICA WEATHER SOUTH AFRICA February is the hottest month in Cape Town with an average temperature of 23 C (73 F) and the coldest is June at 13 C (55 F) with the most daily sunshine hours at 11.05 in December. The wettest month is July with an average of 100mm of rain. MOZAMBIQUE Mozambique has a warm, tropical climate. The average temperature is around 28 C (82 F), and the weather along the coast is sunny and warm even in midwinter. Summer, from October to April, is rainy, humid, and very hot. Although still tropical, June, July and August are Mozambique s coolest months; you ll need a light duvet at night, even though the temperature reaches over 30 C by day.

SOUTHERN AFRICA WILDLIFE ADVENTURE TOUR Volunteer in Mozambique on the Marine Research Project and help with hands-on Whale Shark research, coral reef monitoring, whale monitoring, and manta ray and turtle identification, in one of Africa s best scuba diving and beach destinations. You will then travel to the beautiful Kingdom of Swaziland, with a few days to explore before departing on a 5 day tour of the world famous Kruger National Park, in search of the big 5. Following your safari, you will return to Swaziland for 3 weeks of volunteering on our Savanna Conservation project in the country s north east. Here you will help to conduct ecological research relevant to savanna ecosystems throughout southern Africa, including monitoring bats, birds, reptiles, ungulates, rodents, small predators and vegetation. ACCOMMODATION & MEALS During your stay you will be accommodated in a variety of lodges as you tour Southern Africa, but home base will be the award winning Lidwala Lodge in Ezulwini Valley. Three meals a day will also be provided, some on a self-serve basis and others cooked for you. INCLUDED IN THE COST Comprehensive 24 hour, 7 day a week support from All Out Africa Volunteer projects specifically designed to enable you to make an active contribution during your stay Support of volunteer project coordinators who are experts in their fields which ensures the volunteer experience is valuable 2017 ARTA WINNER! 2017 GYTA FINALIST! Comprehensive orientation to the country, its culture and your role as a volunteer upon arrival All food and accommodation throughout your stay Tour guide for the duration of your tours VOLUNTEER ROLE There are 3 distinct parts to this travel experience each with its own interesting flavour. In Mozambique, your role will be to collect important data and conduct activities to support research and Conservation efforts of the marine life in the area. You will join other volunteers on the project to collect the data via beach walks, boat surveys, snorkeling and scuba dives off the coastline of Tofo in Mozambique. In Kruger you will be joining a camping safari holiday. Here your days will be spent on game drives searching for the incredibly diverse wild life that this world renowned national park has to offer while at night you will be camped out under the African stars, sitting around a crackling campfire listening to tales of the African bush. While in Kruger your guide will teach you about the animals and plants of the African savanna and how important it is to protect this fragile Eco-system. * Please note that the activities listed above are based on availbility and may vary by season. These are samples of activities that are volunteers are likely to participate in. WHERE YOUR PROJECT FEE GOES By signing up with us you are donating your time and skills

You will also receive travel and visa support, orientation, a safe place to stay, logistical support, in addition to clear expectations of the work you will do.
