Once again this event will also ratify the Cuban workers commitment to continue contributing to the updating of our economic model in order to build a prosperous and sustainable socialist system. With dignity we will celebrate these events, preserving the unity gained, reaffirming our unconditional support to the Revolution, that has provided so many gains and rights to the working class and reiterating our confidence in its historical leadership, an example for present and future generations. As an expression of our solidarity spirit, the Cuban workers will continue fulfilling the international duty wherever necessary all over the world Through this call, being inspired by the same solidarity, we would like to recognize all those friends from different places in the planet, who join us in the battle to eliminate the unfair economic, commercial and financial blockade imposed by the US government against Cuba and also in our demand for the release of our Heroes, imprisoned by the Empire. We are launching this call in a moment, when the world faces a deep systemic crisis with disastrous effects for the working class, when unemployment, the incessant increase of prices food and services, among other ills, are demanding to the trade union movement a firm and convincing answer to defend peace and the right to decide their own destinies without any foreign interference. Workers of the world: Today we summon all those who fight against war, but for the right of a world of peace and social justice to join us and share with our people this day of joy and renewed commitment. Invitation 6th TRADE UNION MEETING OUR AMERICA Havana, Cuba from May 3rd to May 4th, 2014 We invite you to attend the 6th Trade Union Meeting Our America (ESNA by its acronym in Spanish) that will take place in Havana, Cuba from May 3rd to May 4th, 2014. Its carrying out was approved at 5th ESNA that took place in Mexico City. The plan to initiate the Trade Union Meeting Our America was inspired by the ideas of President Hugo Chávez Frías on the occasion of the 2nd Bolivarian People Congress celebrated in Caracas, Venezuela in December, 2004. At the Congress President Chavez introduced the concept of integration of the Latin American trade union movements and the creation of a new Trade Union Central in America. The Trade Union Central is essential to focus on obstacles facing workers in Our America and to develop the necessary tools to combat the agenda of neoliberalism. A similar idea was discussed: at the World Social Forum in Porto Alegre, Brazil, 2005; in meetings of the class oriented movement carried out in our area since 2002; and in the 4th Hemisphere Meeting of the struggle against FTAA that took place in Havana, April, 2005. In Havana, 2005 consideration was given to the creation of a Trade Union Forum for Integration. A process of building a wide COORDINATION of working movement began, not restricted only to trade union context but where many forces could find a space of articulation whose acting sphere or field of effect is linked with workers scenery addressed to facilitate with own identity their insertion in the current spaces of social struggles where several NETS and CAMPAIGNS make an effort to encourage actions of resistance and confrontations against the most different expressions of current neoliberal policies and where the working sector plays, in general, a leading role of limited profile. So, we understand that workers could and should play a more active role.
Since then five successful meetings have taken place: 1. ESNA in Quito, Ecuador, 2008 2. ESNA in Sao Paolo, Brazil, 2009 3. ESNA in Caracas, Venezuela, 2010 4. ESNA in Managua, Nicaragua, 2011 5. ESNA in Mexico, 2012 Hundreds of delegates from social and trade union organizations from Our America countries attended these meetings. Significant, continental leaders like Hugo Chávez and Daniel Ortega attended some of the closing sessions; they addressed the participants with their vision. ESNA has been growing in attendance, discussing and reflecting an agenda concerning socio political action that will contribute developing unity and strength of trade union organizations in the area. It is a space that has evolved and is establishing step by step in the context of current social struggles. It is spreading its links with trade unions and popular organizations. It is viewing its interaction with the process of integration in our region, with change and transformation that have taken place in some of our countries. The realization of the 6th ESNA in Cuba represents recognition, as well as an expression of solidarity with the Cuban people and the revolution. This meeting will take place in the framework of International May Day and in the year when we celebrate the 75th anniversary of the foundation of the CTC and its XX Congress. This meeting will be a new opportunity for Social and Trade Union Movements to analyze and to reflect on socio political situations that the world is facing today. Delegates will, evaluate and propose alternatives to confront impacts caused by the crisis of the current capitalist system. They will define challenges that trade union organizations must address in order to promote a new type of socio political trade unionism. The CTC and the Coordinating Group of ESNA is optimistic that the 6th ESNA in Havana, Cuba will establish a qualitative and quantitative advance in developing this important plural and inclusive vision of social and trade union organizations. Therefore, we are inviting all class, unitary and internationalist organizations to join us in this activity and in our declaration of principles. We are encouraged to work energetically on unification and solidarity of the working class along with our people fighting for ultimate liberation.
