FRANCE PARIS ET LA PROVENCE 11 DAYS / 9 NIGHTS June 5 to 15, 2018 (Dates of travel to be confirmed upon flight booking)
DAY 1: DEPART Fly overnight to Paris. DAY 2: PARIS On arrival in Paris, your French Forum Tour Manager will greet you at the airport and remain with you throughout your tour. Transfer by private motor coach to your hotel and drop off your bags. This afternoon, stroll down the most famous avenue of the capital, the Champs-Elysées. Climb to the top of the Arc de Triomphe to admire the view. You will walk through the Trocadéro and view la Ville Lumière from the third floor of the Eiffel Tower. Afterwards, board a glass-topped Bateau Mouche and enjoy a cruise to explore Paris from its best avenue: the Seine River. Have dinner at a local restaurant. Enjoy a night stroll of the illuminated Paris. DAY 3: PARIS This morning, we will discover the Musée du Louvre. Its famous collection of art and antiquities includes the Mona Lisa. Later, visit the gothic Cathédrale Notre-Dame. Climb the Towers to experience the view as well as a glimpse of the famous gargoyles. Free time for lunch. You will visit the Sainte Chapelle, a masterpiece of Flamboyant Gothic architecture built by Saint Louis. Discover its unique stained glass windows rendering the air iridescent with light and colour, symbols of the Heavenly Jerusalem. Your tour manager will take you to the Latin Quarter to visit the Sorbonne University. In 1253, a college for 16 poor students who wanted to study theology was created at Louis IX s request. It became the Sorbonne as Robert de Sorbon, the king s confessor, gave his name to the school. Dine in the Latin Quarter before returning to your hotel. DAY 4: VERSAILLES After breakfast, depart by RER train for Versailles. Spend the day at The Palace of Versailles, the hunting lodge that King Louis XIV converted into a baroque château in the 17th century. You will tour the Grand Stables, the opulent Grand Apartments, the King s Chamber and the Hall of Mirrors and surrounding gardens. Return to Paris for dinner and overnight accommodation. DAY 5: PARIS Explore the Marais Quarter with your tour manager. The neighborhood, which takes its name from the marshes on which it was originally built, has long been the home of Parisian aristocrats.
Explore the ancient burial grounds (Paris Catacombs) underneath Paris. You ll hear tales of the disturbing history of the Paris Catacombs as your guide for this haunting tour takes you on a journey through more than a kilometer of tunnels. Later on, you will visit the magnificent Musée d Orsay and its extensive collections of 19th and 20th century paintings, sculptures, architecture and literature. Later in the day, you will head up to the highest point in Paris, Montmartre (known locally as La Butte). Climb the steps to reach the Sacré-Cœur, Montmartre s hilltop church and most famous landmark. Dinner in a typical Brasserie Parisienne. DAY 6: PARIS AIX EN PROVENCE After breakfast at your hotel, you will board the High-Speed TGV Train to Aix-en-Provence. Transfer to your hotel and drop off your bags. This afternoon, follow your tour guide on a Paul Cezanne Walking Tour: Sur les pas de Cézanne. Enter the painting studio of the post impressionist painter Paul Cézanne, native of Aix en Provence. Enjoy dinner in a local restaurant. Overnight in Aix-en-Provence. DAY 7: DAY TRIP TO ARLES Breakfast at your hotel. Board your private motorcoach to Arles. Meet your local guide and visit the extraordinary well-preserved Roman arena at the city s heart. Enter the Cathédrale St-Trophime in Arles, one of the most famous examples of twelfth-century Provençal stone carving in existence. Your guide will also bring you to the Thermes de Constantin and the Roman Theatre. Drive to the Pont du Gard, a Roman aqueduct built in the middle of the 1st century AD. Return to Aix-en-Provence for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 8: DAY TRIP TO LES BAUX DE PROVENCE After breakfast, head to the local market and enjoy all colors and smells of the Mediterranean food! Then, board your private motor coach en route to the picturesque Provencal town of Les Baux-de-Provence. Stop at le Moulin Castelas, an olive oil farm located in a valley to learn how olives become oil. Later, visit the Château des Baux, fortified castle built during the 10th century. Admire the view of the Val d Enfer (Valley of Hell) and even glimpse the Mediterranean Sea in the distance. Return to Aix for dinner and night accommodation.
DAY 9: DAY TRIP TO AVIGNON After breakfast, drive to Avignon. Once in Avignon, you won t want to leave, and the town is too interesting to let you go. Avignon is ancient, full of history, life, youth, art, music and activity. Just to see the town itself, you could wander the narrow streets inside the fortified walls for days without tiring of them. Avignon is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Get ready for an city stroll with your tour manager. Old Avignon is a walled medieval city shaped like a rhombus. Visit the impressive Palais de Papes, a Gothic masterpiece that is a former Papal residence. Enter the petit palais, a vast cobbled square that now contains a worldclass collection of Italian Renaissance painting. You will see the Pont Saint Benezet, a 800 years old bridge. Return to Aix for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 10: AIX CASSIS MARSEILLE Breakfast at your hotel. Sit back in your private motor coach, relax and enjoy the beautiful view of the Mediterranean Sea. Upon arrival in Cassis, hop on a boat ride and explore the spectacular Calanques, a geologic formation in the form of a deep valley. Continue on to Marseille, the capital of Provence. Marseille is a port city in southern France which has been a crossroads of immigration and trade since its founding by the Phoenicians in 600 B.C.E. Discover the old Port and the Notre Dame de la Garde cathedral. Watch people playing Pétanque, in the streets of Marseille. Return to Aix for dinner and night accommodation. DAY 11: RETURN Transfer to the Marseille-Provence airport for your return flight home. Your tour manager will help you for the check in and stay with your group until departure. During, you will be asked to provide contact information, a valid passport number, and method of payment. If you do not have a passport yet, don t worry you will still be able to enroll.
