Friday 24 th November 2017 Barfield News As has now become traditional on the Friday afternoon of Exam Week, the whole school gathered in the School Hall to witness the switching on of the Christmas Tree lights, where yet again this year, members of The Friends had done a fantastic job of decorating the tree. The final two decorations were held back and were added to the tree by the youngest boy and girl in the room, Edward Marshall and Sophie Tiong, before the lights were switched on by the Head Boy and Head Girl, Joshua Furneaux and Azra Aydin, to create a wonderful sight. This ceremony heralds the start of the "Christmas Season" at Barfield, and, as always, we have a packed few weeks ahead of us. The Nativity, Christmas Market and Christmas Lunches are just some of the events planned, and, following last year's successful "Whole School" Carol Service, we shall be repeating that event at 3pm at The Royal Garrison Church, Aldershot on the final afternoon of term, and this promises to be a great occasion and a lovely way to finish. James Reid

We were very lucky to receive a visit from Trish from Ceramimagic. We made the most of our wonderful Arts room where the children had the opportunity to decorate a ceramic Christmas tree. They used their fingers to paint the tree green and then used a special tool to create the decorations. Trish encouraged the children to make different "splat" noises as they splattered the paint on. As you can imagine, the children found this very funny! We were sad to see our Christmas trees go; however, Trish promised that she will return them when they have been cooked, ready to be taken home. Sophie Robinson

GINGERBREAD HOUSES The two Reception classes have been working together to create a gingerbread house for the Christmas Market next week. The children took it in turns to measure and stir, thoroughly enjoying getting their hands messy when combining the ingredients together to make the dough. They were fascinated by the changes of the butter and sugar as they melted together, although they did not get too close as it was very hot! We definitely enjoyed the lingering smell of ginger in the Cookhouse! Watch this space for more photos next week as we will have great fun decorating our house. Sophie Robinson

MATCH ROUND-UP Monday 20 th November Girls Swimming v Frensham Heights U11 & U9 (H) Barfield U11 38 23 Frensham Heights U11 Barfield U9 36 24 Frensham Heights U9 Every girl in Years 5 and 6 swam in this gala and they all performed very well for a comfortable win for both teams. Ros Milton Wednesday 22 nd November Football v Lyndhurst U11 (A) Barfield A 3 0 Lyndhurst U11A Scorers - Littlefield 2, Aydin Barfield B 3 0 Lyndhurst U11B Scorers - Smith, Slatford, Birkbeck Our U11 team travelled to Lyndhurst School to play 2 x 7-a-side football at the Arena Park in Camberley. Both of our teams played some attractive football, demonstrating good individual skills, passing and tackling. The pitches were of a good size; however, the goals were much smaller than we have been used to playing with this term, which meant we did struggle a little in front of goal to apply the finishing touch to some of our attacking play. Well done to all the boys who took part. A good all-round performance. Ray Taylor Girls Swimming v Lyndhurst U11 & U9 Barfield U11 47 34 Lyndhurst U11 Barfield U9 47 34 Lyndhurst U9 The girls in Years 5 and 6 all swam very well in this gala against Lyndhurst. There were some very exciting races, several dead heats and swimmers catching up on rivals over the lengths. Well done girls. Individual wins for Emma Kimura-Young, Ava Rice, Jasmine Tilney, Jessica Mitchell, Maya Tilney and the A Teams in both relays for both teams. Ros Milton Thursday 23 rd November Football v The Royal U9 (H) Barfield A 3 1 The Royal A Scorer - Sturridge 3 Barfield B 3 0 The Royal B Scorers - Camp 2, Nakip Barfield A 3 1 The Royal C Scorers - Anderson, Sturridge 2 Barfield B 1 1 The Royal D Scorer - Camp All our U9 boys took part in this 2 x 7-a-side fixture.
