Wonders Greece of Day 1 Arrival in Athens Welcome to Athens you join the Wonders of Greece Tour! On arrival you are met and transferred to your hotel. After check-in spend the day strolling around taking in the atmosphere of the city, or just relax at a local coffee shop or at your hotel. Athens: Redolent with history and mythology, Athens is a vibrant city enlivened by bustling outdoor cafes, pedestrian streets that wind through the city's ancient sites and its fair share of urban eccentrics, a city full of contrasts. Day 2 Athens Sightseeing This morning enjoy a city tour of Athens. Your guide will reveal to you the secrets of the Acropolis & the Parthenon, the Temple of Zeus, Hadrian s Arch and the Kallimarmaro Stadium, built of marble for the first modern Olympic Games in 1896. Bourtzi Fort Nafplion Day 3 Athens to Mycenae, Nafplion, Mycenae & Olympia We will enjoy an early breakfast this morning and set off for a fabulous day. We will take a scenic drive down to the Peloponnese. After a short stop at the Corinth canal, we will head to the ancient site of Epidaurus. With ruins of temples and hospital buildings devoted to the healing gods. For most travelers Epidaurus is known for the magnificent theater that still stands there and is still used for plays and other performances. After the visit to Epidaurus it is a short drive to Nafplio for short top. We continue to Mycenae - a mighty kingdom of ancient Greece-, see the Beehive Tombs, the Treasury of Atreus, the Lion Gate and the remains of Agamemnon s Royal Palace. Enjoy a spectacular drive through the mountains of Arcadia to Olympia, the birthplace of the Olympic Games, first held in 776 B.C Nafplion One of the loveliest seaside towns of Greece! Climb up the 857 steps of the fortress of Palamidi crowning the city, pop over to the islet of Bourtzi, afloat in the middle of the bay and wander around the streets of the town, with its cafes, tavernas and shops. Day 4 Olympia to Delphi The serene sight of Ancient Olympia awaits us today in antiquity it was the sacred ground of ancient Greeks and the site of the original Olympic Games that started in 776 BC. See where the athletes trained in the gymnasium, and the stadium where the actual games took place. Our guide will bring history alive as we tour this incredible site including temples of the Gods where visitors and athletes alike paid homage. After our visit to the site of Olympia we shall once again head north, crossing the spectacular Rio-Antirio bridge one of the World s longest cable suspension bridges towards Delphi. Delphi Day 4 Olympia to Delphi In the morning visit the ancient Olympic stadium and the Temples of Zeus king of the Gods and Hera's temple - wife of Zeus, goddess of marriage and birth in Greek mythology. Drive north to Patras, cross the Gulf of Corinth on the new and most impressive suspension bridge to mainland Greece. Then on to Delphi, situated on the slopes of Mount Parnassus to see the home of the legendary oracle the most revered site of ancient Greece and considered to be the navel of the world. The oracle was consulted by all the ancient Greeks to predict future events ie. the outcome of battles and the course of history. Day 5 Delphi to Kalambaka Spend your morning walking along the Sacred Way lined by the treasuries of the ancient city states to the Temple of Apollo dating back to the 4th century B.C. And then climbing even higher on to the ancient stadium, here every four years athletes competed in the Pythian Games also a precursor of the modern Olympic Games. A picturesque early afternoon drive brings you to Thermopylae, famous for the heroic defense by Leonidas and his three hundred courageous Spartans against the invading Persians. After seeing the memorial, continue the drive cross the fertile Thessaly region to Kalambaka. Kalambaka Meteora Day 6 Kalambaka to Athens Discover Meteora, one of the eastern Orthodox churches' most important monastic complexes. Mystical monasteries perch on enormous sandstone rocks rising vertically to more than three hundred meters, they watch over the town and plain bellow. A pleasant drive brings you back to Athens in the early evening. Meteora: Cliff top monasteries perch precariously on top of the huge sheer sandstone rocks that rise vertically to over three hundred meters; Nature s poetry and man s creation are in complete harmony.
