Maintaining the Pretium FBC-015 Cleaver The FBC-015 cleaver utilizes a unique handheld design that provides high quality cleaves that enable the outstanding performance of Corning UniCam connectors. In order to maintain this performance, the FBC- 015 requires more diligent cleaning than lower technology cleavers. Ensuring the clamps and blade are kept clean will allow consistent cleaves throughout the lifetime of the cleaver. Additionally, the installer needs to watch for scrap fibres in the fibre channel of the cleaver as they need to be removed to avoid damaging the clamps and blade of the cleaver. 1. Cleaning the Clamps Due to frequent or long term use and also through storage in unclean areas it is possible that debris is deposited on the clamps or between the clamps. In this case please use the fibre wipes and the fibre cleaning fluid provided with each Pretium UniCam Tool Kit to clean the clamps. Below you will find a detailed instruction for cleaning the cleaver clamps. You can also consult the Standard Recommended Procedure (SRP) 006-375. Step 1: Fold one of the provided Fibre Wipes in half. Step 2: Press the button of the first clamp to be cleaned. Step 3: Insert the wipe in the clamp and release the button.
Step 4: Gently pull out the wipe out. Step 5: Repeat for the second clamp. Step 6: Dispose of the used wipe after use. Do not use wipe more than once. Scrap and Broken Fibres It is imperative to remove broken and scrap fibres from the cleaver. These fibres can cause damage to the cleaver if not removed which can prevent the operator from getting a good cleave. Fibre If a fibre does manage to enter the clamp cavity (usually the scrap clamp cavity), the operator may turn the cleaver over or remove the fibre with tweezers. Clamp Cavity Broken Fibre
2. Cleaning the blade It is possible that debris deposits on the blade, due to frequent or long term use of the cleaver. This could have a huge impact on the performance of this high precision cleaver. To clean the blade in such cases, please use the 1,25mm connector cleaning stick, which is provided in a pack of ten pieces with every Pretium UniCam Tool Kit. Please follow the steps below to clean the blades of the FBC-015 cleaver. Step 1: Take one 1,25mm cleaning stick Step 2: Gently drag the tip of the blade across one side of the blade Up-view Blade Side-view
Step 3: Gently drag the tip of the blade across the other side of the blade Blade Step 4: Dispose the used cleaning stick after use. Do not use stick more than once 3. Blade has exceeded 10K cleaved The high quality diamond blade used in the FBC-015 cleaver enables good quality cleaves for several thousand uses. To ensure that the quality of this product stays high, we recommend exchanging the blade every 10K cleaves. For this procedure CCS offers a special blade exchange kit FBC-BLADE. It includes all necessary tools to replace the blade and provides detailed instructions, containing the replacement procedure.

Problem: Error light flashes Possible Cause: 1. Ferrule Adapter maybe dirty Solution: 1. Clean the Ferrule Adapter and connector. The adapter is cleaned by the cleaning sticks provided in the tool. Insert stick into the adapter opening and rotate the stick 10 times, clockwise (apply varying pressures to create a pumping action). Don t reuse the stick. 2. The connector may be dirty 2. Clean the end face of the connector. 3. Clean the photo detector with a dry wipe. 3. The photo detector is dirty Photo Detector 4. The connector is not loaded correctly 4. Remove connector dust caps. The date code on the SC and LC should be facing up. The UP of the ST adapter should be facing up. The crimp tube must protrude past the crimp arms. 5. The ferrule adapter is not properly secured in the adapter port 5. Make sure the proper ferrule adapter is being used and is fully seated on the connector. 6. Replace batteries 6. Weak Batteries
