Commonwealth Club Travel Corfu to At h e n s May 12 21, 2016 aboard the sailing yacht Running on Waves

Dear Club Members and Friends, Known as the Cradle of Western Civilization, Greece delivers an enticing blend of history, diverse cultural influences, stunning natural beauty, and archaeological treasures. From the sunny Ionian isle of Corfu, cruise seven nights aboard the elegant, privately chartered 18-cabin sailing yacht, Running on Waves. Our unique itinerary takes us between the mainland and the fabled island of Ithaca, across the Gulf of Corinth to Delphi, and onward to the World Heritage sites of Nemea and Mycenae on the Peloponnese peninsula. See the site of the Battle of Actium, learn the mysteries of the mystical Delphic Oracle, and cruise through the spell binding Corinth Canal en route to Athens. Taking full advantage of our private yacht, time is carved out to unfurl the sails and glide across the sparkling blue sea and there will be opportunities for swimming and water sport activities in secluded beaches or off the aft marina. May is the perfect time to enjoy a sailing adventure in Greece while our lecture program informs and educates us. Launched in 2011, Running on Waves combines the look of a classic 3-masted sailing vessel with a contemporary design and state-of-the-art facilities and equipment. She is modern, high-speed, and environmentally friendly, with a High Ocean Class rating that allows her to sail anywhere around the globe, in style. This journey will be shared with members of the National Trust for Historic Preservation. And remember, the beautiful Running on Waves has only 18 cabins, so I encourage you to contact us to ensure your place on this exceptional voyage! Sincerely, Kristina Nemeth Director of Travel, The Commonwealth Club For more information, please contact Commonwealth Club Travel Telephone: 415.597.6720 Fax: 415.597.6729 E-mail: travel@commonwealthclub.org

The northernmost Greek island, situated near the mouth of the Adriatic Sea, Corfu enjoys a rich cultural history marked by Italian, French, and British rule before officially joining Greece in 1864. Tour the royal Achilleion Palace and the archaeological museum in the Mon Repos Villa, then embark Running on Waves, your home for the next seven nights. Enjoy a welcome reception and dinner as you set sail for the Greek mainland. Running on Waves (B,R,D) corfu Sunday, May 15 Preveza Gaze upon the historic site of the Battle of Actium, where future emperor Octavian defeated Marc Antony and Cleopatra, ensuring the continuation of the Roman Empire s dominance. In the afternoon, sail into the Ionian Sea en route to the island of Ithaca.
