The scenic Bikeway, open dawn to dusk, is an 11-mile paved trail. Open to hikers, skaters and bicyclists, it is part of the Great Ohio Lake to River Greenway. Raccoon Rd. Dedicated to the memory of those who lost their lives on September 11, 2001. The paths throughout the park lead visitors to remnants of the World Trade Center beams, building stones taken from the Pentagon, and an urn containing dirt from the crash site of Flight 93. Site also includes memorials to firstresponders. Parks & Recreation Enjoy the outdoors! Mahoning County is home to Mill Creek MetroParks. With over 4400 acres of natural beauty to explore, Mill Creek allows you to explore secrets of nature and engage in healthy activities. For the boating enthusiast, Lake Milton State Park and Berlin Lake are great places to spend the day on the water. Lake Newport - Mill Creek MetroParks Mill Creek MetroParks www.millcreekmetroparks.org Mill Creek winds throughout Mahoning County with miles of hike-bike trails, lakes for fishing, kayaking or paddle boating, championship golf courses, Fellows Riverside Gardens, Lanterman s Mill, Nature Preserves and Wetlands, and much more recreational fun for the entire family. The Wick Recreation Area includes a Par 3 golf course, tennis courts, batting cages, volleyball courts, children s play area, picnic facilities, softball and baseball diamonds, and soccer and football fields. In the winter, the sled hill offers lighted sled riding slopes with a warming house and snack bar in addition to cross country skiing. Lake Newport, the largest of Mill Creek Park s three lakes, offers 60 acres of open water and 40 acres of wetlands. Lake Glacier is a 40 acre lake with fishing and boating permitted in season. Kayaks and paddle boats can be rented at both lakes. The Newport Wetlands, located at the southern end of the lake, provide habitat for a variety of plants and animals. Visitors can experience this complex web of flora and fauna by walking the Albert E. Davies Wetland Trail, a boardwalk through the wetlands with interpretive signs along the way. Kayakers can explore the wetland habitat through water trails inaccessible from land. Check their website for complete information on park facilities and special events. Yellow Creek Park 19 1/2 Lowellville Rd. Struthers, OH 4441 330-55-25 6-acre park with hiking trails, picnic facilities, tennis, horseshoe, and basketball courts, and a playground. The historic site of the Hopewell Furnace is accessible by trail when Yellow Creek levels are low. Shore fishing is permitted from March 1 November 30. Parks & Recreation Bike Trails Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway 54 Columbiana-Canfield Rd. -9441 The MetroParks Bikeway is an 11-mile paved trail and offers a variety of scenery. The Kirk Road Trailhead, located near the midpoint of the Bikeway, provides parking lot, restrooms, water fountains and picnic pavilion. The Bikeway stretches from the northern Mahoning County line south to Western Reserve Road. Eventually the Bikeway will be part of the 100-mile Great Ohio Lake to River Greenway, a developing corridor that will allow trail users to travel from Lake Erie to the Ohio River. Mill Creek MetroParks Bikeway Stavich Bicycle Trail Broad St. (Route 289) Struthers, OH 4441 Call 330-536-6221 for info The only bicycle trail in the U.S. that takes you through two different states. This 12-mile trail originates in Struthers on the western end, and continues east to New Castle, PA. It runs parallel to the scenic Mahoning River and the former Youngstown- New Castle streetcar line. 9
