Start planning Login to Stray Mate to book your travel dates and check your itinerary. 150+ activities on offer Get great advice on the best activities on offer, all bookable with your Driver Guide. Pay-as-yougo with the operator, so you only pay for the things you really want to do. Hop-off anywhere When you are ready to move on, simply book back onto the bus using Stray Mate and the adventure continues. Hop back on! You can hop-off as often as you like. Lots of departures We have options galore with a minimum of 3 departures per week May-Sep and 5+ during peak season. Where you sleep You ll have a dorm bed reserved for you at every Stray stop. Simply book with your Driver Guide day by day and pay-as-you-go with the accommodation provider. Private room upgrades are subject to availability. Where you ll go Further off the beaten track! We stay in or near 7+ national parks. While we include the iconic hot spots it s our Strademark Places (page 9) that you ll remember us for.. On Standby? Not to worry, being hop-on hop-off we find seats free up and 95% of travellers get to travel on their preferred travel date. Who s on board It s an adventurous outgoing crowd with a common objective to have a great time! The minimum age is 7 and 7-17 years olds must travel with a legal guardian. We have no maximum as we believe age is a state of mind. Travel for up to 12 months! With 12 months validity you can stop to work and play along the way. Hokianga (Stray Journeys) Hahei Lake Aniwhenua Maraehako Bay Tatapouri A world renowned surfing hot spot, with dramatic cliffs, sweeping beaches and a little hippy township with great coffee! People of all abilities flock here for the perfect wave or yoga with coastal views. TOP-RATED ACTIVITY These are the places you are less likely to find in a guide book, but you ll be talking about long after the adventure has ended. Put simply, if they carry the Strademark stamp they are what makes us stand out from the crowd and they are not to be missed! Blue Duck Station Marahau A quintessential Kiwi holiday hotspot overlooking a marine reserve. Hike to Cathedral Cove or head to to dig a natural spa bath. Hahei by Stray passengers Blue Duck Station Stay at the base of New Zealand s highest peak, renowned for its majestic alpine scenery and glacial lakes. Gunn s Camp A favourite amongst travellers, Blue Duck Station offers a truly unique insight into life on a high country station. By day explore the farm and by night sing kumbaya around the camp fire. Mt. Cook On the edge of Fiordland, stay in a rustic camping ground and hike up to Key Summit for postcard quality scenery. Makarora (Stray Journeys) Gunn s Camp Mt. Cook Marahau This place is the definition of paradise, where luscious native bush and walking tracks meander along a picturesque coastline. Explore the many coves by foot, kayak or sailboat. This historic sheep station which sits amongst Lord of the Rings type scenery, offers interesting walks, horseback adventures and grade 5 adrenaline fueled white water rafting. Feel the whole world drift away at this little lodge nestled amongst native pohutakawa trees. Learn how to catch a crayfish, spend an afternoon fishing or take a kayak for a paddle in this coastal mecca. This homely historic nurses lodge on the outskirts of National Park has plenty on offer. By day hike the world renowned Tongariro Crossing and by night settle in for a spa bath with mountain views, woodfired pizzas and a murder mystery.
