The purpose is to implement the CBD programme of work on protected areas and of the EU s principles and the Bern Convention concerning the protection of habitats and species in the ENPI east countries. The Joint Programme aims at identifying Areas of Special Conservation Interest (all potential sites) to be part of the Emerald Network in Moldova.

Overall Emerald Project Results in Moldova 2009-2011 Review of Moldovan Legislation on Environment, Soil, Water, agriculture; Distribution per biogeographical region in Moldova of all species and habitats of Resolutions No. 4 (1996) and No. 6 (1998) of the Bern Convention and Annex I of the Habitats Directive; Distribution maps of selected species and habitats in GIS, Sites database for the sites listed with all ecological data filled in; Digital boundaries for all sites in GIS; National Emerald Data base and GIS elaborated and available in EUNIS biodiversity database via www.eionet.europa.eu; Checking and providing comments on the database for all species (619) to be added to appendices of the Bern Convention proposed by 7 countries; National Emerald Workshops April 2009, February 2010, February-March 2011; Proposed 14 species of plants in Moldova to be added to the Bern Convention; Preparation of brochure on Emerald Project in Moldova for publication (expected in November).

Database for plant species A total of 9 plant species included in database: Colchicum fominii, Crambe tataria, Cypripedium calceolus, Genista tetragona, Luronium natans, Pulsatilla grandis, Schivereckia podolica, Serratula lycopifolia, Thesium ebracteatum. Populational and biogeographic information GIS maps elaborated: in 2010 for 4 species, in 2011 for 5 plant species

Database for animal species Total 74 animal species, including: birds 51, mammals 11, amphibians 3, fish 3, reptiles 3, nevertebrates 3. For them following data were presented: ecological information, populational and biogeographical information, localization GIS distribution maps elaborated: in 2010 for 39 species, in 2011 for 35

Habitats according to Res.4 of Bern convention Total described in Moldova 19 habitat types In 2010 12 habitats and in 2011 7 described Ecological description, localization in natural areas provided GIS maps elaborated EUNIS classification

Proposed new species to be included in Res.6 of Bern Convention List of proposed species revised 7 plant species proposed to be included to Appendix 1 of the Bern Convention List of plant species proposed: Gladiolus imbricatus L., Paeonia peregrina Mill, Ophioglossum vulgatum L., Koeleria moldavica M.Alexeenko, Epipactis palustris (L.) Crantz, Orchis palustris Jacq., Orchis purpurea Huds.

Database on proposed species to be added to the Bern Convention A data base on proposed species to be added to the appendices of the Bern Convention by the group of 7countries, a total of 619 species have been revised for Moldova. The species which are met both in Moldova and neighboring countries were identified. Among them: Plants 36, insects 12, birds 10, fish 7, mammals 3, amphibians and reptiles each 1.
