HOLIDAY CODE SWW Mediterranean walking holiday on the beautiful island of Sardinia in Italy Explore the rural heart of Sardinia alongside superb Mediterranean walking Amazing views from Corrasi and Tiscali in the wild Supramonte Mountains Centre-based in a charming family run hotel with excellent local cuisine Experience Europe's best kept secret-island home to coastal walks and gorges Italy, Trek & Walk, 8 Days 7 nights hotel, 7 breakfasts, 5 lunches, 5 dinners, max group size: 16, 5 days walking, 1 free day, max altitude - 1463m VIEW DATES, PRICES & BOOK YOUR HOLIDAY HERE

PAGE 2 Introduction As the second largest island in the Mediterranean and described as an off the beaten track walkers paradise, Sardinia is a vibrant landscape of wild mountains, jaw-dropping canyons, spectacular cliffs, hidden coves and a dramatic rocky coast surrounded by turquoise seas. All this is wonderfully combined with colourful history, hearty food, delicious wines and wonderful flora watched over proudly by the characterful and welcoming Sardinians! This charming walking holiday is based on the lesser known East coast of the island, famed for the beautiful National Park of Golfo di Orosei. After the bustling harbour town of Olbia we head to Dorgali and our family-run hotel, our base for the next five nights. In the beautifully wild and stark Supramonte Mountains we ll hike to the summit of Tiscali, with its ancient sites of the Nuraghe people. Next we explore the Gulf of Orosei National Park, with walks to the hidden coves of Cala Gonone and Cala Luna. As the islands first national park, this is a region of dramatic cliffs, beautiful coastal views and genuine lovers of nature. We leave the best till last with a walk through the jaw-dropping Gorropu Canyon with walls towering up to 400m before ascending the highest peak in the Supramonte range - Monte Corrasi (1463m). If you're looking for a surprisingly secret side to one of the most beautiful islands in the Mediterranean with a wonderful variety of walks, family-run accommodation and plenty of sunshine then Secret Sardinia is the perfect choice! Is this holiday for you? The walking on this holiday is not particularly difficult or sustained, however the island is known for its rugged landscape and footpaths which you will experience on most days. Each day we will walk for around 4-5 hrs with free time to explore. The pace will be relatively relaxed and gentle, with a couple of slightly shorter walking days. The average distance will be 12-13kms, with moderate amounts of ascents and descent. On the mountain days of 2 and 7 the gradient and length of ascents and descents will be longer and steeper. We will be walking on a variety of trails from quiet rural paths to rough trails and rocky terrain along the coast. In general the paths are good with no difficult sections and no degree of exposure, although underfoot conditions are varied. Sardinia is a rocky island and most days involves some hiking along limestone footpaths. While there is sufficient walking on each day to satisfy regular hikers, it is intended that this should be a relaxing holiday with a gentle pace. Please note that as the holiday is centre-based for 5 days, 3 of the walks are optional. Holiday Itinerary Day 1: Meet at the group hotel in Olbia. A single timed transfer from Olbia Airport is included. Meet at Olbia airport. A single timed escorted transfer on public transport from Olbia Airport to the group hotel in the centre is included. If you are arriving on an early flight it is very easy to get taxis from the airport to the group hotel. Olbia is a bustling Sardinian town with couple of interesting churches and town squares scattered with cafes and wine bars to relax and people watch from. The Archeological Museum near the harbour is a wonderful little gem and worth a visit if you are arriving in Olbia early in the day. Generally the opening hours are 10.00-13.00 and 17.00-20.00 Wednesday to Sunday. Admission is free. Also down at the harbour you will see a number of boat companies that offer a variety of trips from the harbour including harbour tours. These don't need to be booked in advance and prices are variable depending on numbers and length of tour. After checking-in at the group hotel the leader will brief us during dinner on the week ahead. MEALS D Day 2: Walk to the summit of Mount Tiscali and explore the ancient landscape of the Nuraghe. Today after breakfast we have a scenic transfer towards (2 hours) Dorgali. Along the way we will pass vineyards and wonderful views of the ocean. Our aim today is to discover an old city, hidden in a collapsed cave in the

PAGE 3 Supramonte Mountains. A wild and dramatic region of sharp limestone cliffs, wide plateaus and deep, lush canyons, the Supramonte Mountains have an abundance of underground rivers and caves for exploring. Today we walk on a fantastic path with occasional boulders to navigate over. The trail is carved into the rock face as we ascend to the summit of Tiscali (518m). After our arrival on the top of the peak we will explore one of the most important archaeological sites in the region, Nuraghe village. The Nuraghe people used to inhabit the whole of Sardinia from as far back as 2000BC and the villages was once home to 40 houses. Today little remains of the original village, but the overall atmosphere is extremely peaceful and the whole area is incredibly beautiful. After today's walk we transfer to Dorgali and check in at our family-run hotel, our base for the next five nights. DESCENT 520M ASCENT 560M TIME 5 HRS WALKING HOURS DISTANCE 9KM MEALS BLD Day 3: Morning walk on pretty trails to the stunning cove of Cala Gonone. Afternoon at leisure. Today we have the added bonus of walking directly from our hotel on beautiful hiking trails towards the coastal town of Cala Gonone. An hour after leaving the hotel we reach a tunnel through the mountain. This was the original road but it now used by shepherds and their mules. Once throught the tunnel we wander down a gravel path before ascending to Delmen which is an old religious cave and offers a wonderful viewpoint. Surrounded by a grandstand of limestone peaks, beautiful blue sea, emerald green ravines and white sandy beaches, Cala Gonone is now popular amongst sea kayakers, climbers, hikers and outdoor enthusiasts. Once a traditional fishing community, the whole area still feels very low key with its pine-shaded promenade, villas, small hotels and restaurants backed by a belt of pine trees. The afternoon will be free toexplore at leisure. Either stroll along the beach and promenade, take a swim or there may be the option of a boat trip (30 Euro) to the Bue Marino cave. As one of the largest caves in Sardinia, and once home to the last surviving Monk Seals, the walls of the cave are decorated with prehistoric graffiti. After an enjoyable afternoon we take the public bus (20mins) back to our hotel in Dorgali. MEALS BLD ASCENT 230M DESCENT 630M DISTANCE 8KM TIME 3 HRS WALKING HOURS GPS DATA VIEW NOW Day 4: Explore the charming Gulf of Orosei, including the beautiful beach of Cala Luna. After breakfast we take a short transfer (20mins) to Cala Ganone where we start our walk to explore the Gulf of Orosei, one of the most spectacular and unspoilt coastlines on the island. Initially we walk along a road before joining a rocky trail (3 hours) which follows high cliffs overlooking coves and the sea until we reach what is considered one of the most beautiful in the Mediterranean, Cala Luna. The secluded beach can only be reached by boat or on foot. On arrival at Cala Luna there will be some free time to relax and enjoy the views. Made up of coarse, light coloured sand and surrounded by green vegetation, high cliffs and transparent waters, this a wonderful place to relax and enjoy. In the afternoon we return to our hotel in Dorgali. (If weather conditions are favourable we will initially take a public boat to Cala Gonone followed by a public bus to Dorgali.) PAGE 4 Day 5: A day at leisure to explore the local town of Dorgali and surrounding area. Today is a well planned free day for you to relax in Dorgali town or head back to Cala Gonone beach for a boat trip (the leader will help arrange this). Dorgali is a down to earth town with a spectacular backdrop due to its location at the base of Monte Bardia. The town has an old centre, a couple of interesting churches, town squares and cafes for people watching. The town also has a rather interesting Archaeological Museum which is worth a visit. The small museum is open in the morning and then again mid-afternoon to early evening. Alternatively the leader will recommend walks in the local area. Today we have not included lunch or dinner which leaves you free to make up a picnic with items from one of the local supermarkets or sample one of local restaurants. Depending on what time everyone is back today the group may meet up for dinner (not included) and eat in a near by local restaurant. MEALS B Day 6: Transfer to the Supramonte Mountains of di Oliena and walk the spectacular Gorroppu Gorge. This morning after breakfast we take a short transfer (25mins) through orchards and vineyards to the start of the Flumineddu Valley in the heart of the mountains of Supramonte di Oliena. We are now located in the Gennargentu National Park, home to the Sardinian wildcat, wild boar, mouflon, dormouse, weasel and fox, plus a number of birds of prey, including Golden Eagle, Peregrine Falcon, Sardinian Hawk and Sparrow Hawk as well as the Corsican Butterfly Swallowtail. Established in 1998 the national park is also home a variety of species of flora including holm oak, maple and endemic shrubs. We will have a safety briefing with a National Park official before we start the walk. (Please be aware in the gorge there are some small sections of scrambling and use of ropes which the leader will explain in more detail.) The gorge is split into "green yellow and red" sections. We will follow the green and yellow sections only. The green sections are non-technical trails whilst the yellow sections are crossed with the use of rope, a little like via ferrata. These areas are also non-technical but you do need to use your arms to assist when moving across them. The Gorroppu Gorge, at 450m deep and 5m wide is one of the deepest and narrowest gorges in Europe. A place of legends and stories, locals tell stories of being able to see the stars during the daytime or that at night creatures leave the gorge to steal away men and animals! True or not, these tales give the whole place a wonderful atmosphere and we'll walk under vertical walls on trails that cut deep through the gorge. After enjoying the silence of the gorge we transfer (20mins) back to Dorgali for our final night in the town. ASCENT 600M MEALS BLD DESCENT 1200M TIME 5-6 HRS WALKING HOURS Day 7: Spectacular walk to the highest mountain in the Supramonte Range - Mount Corrasi (1463m). We definitely leave a holiday highlight until last! Today our aim for our final walking day on the island is the highest mountain in the Supramonte range - Monte Corrasi (1463m). After breakfast we transfer (40mins) to the foot of the mountain and the start of our walk. We are surrounded by a white almost lunar landscape of karst peaks, whilst the area is home a network of underground caves with magical names such as "Sa Oche - The Voice" and "Su Bentu - The Wind." As we ascend we initially follow a zig-zag path which alternates between a gravel road and forest trails. The ascent takes approximately 3 hours to the summit with the final 1 hour following a rocky trails which snakes up to the top. We are walking through a "sea" of silver stone, typical of a karst landscape. Made up of limestone and scattered with sinkholes, the beauty of this region is in knowing rivers, hidden from view, flow underneath our hiking trails. From the top we are rewarded with wonderful views as far as Dorgali, Gorroppu Gorge, Tiscali and the sea! After the all important summit shots we descend to the valley floor before transferring to Olbia. After checking-in at the group hotel, we will head out to a local restaurant for our final evening. Tonight we haven't included dinner as we feel that part of the overall holiday will be leaving you free to decide with the

PAGE 5 leader the choice of establishment for the final night. Not including a final dinner leaves you free to decide on your own portion size and budget for the final meal. Olbia has a wide variety of restaurants to suit all budgets. Am sure this evening there will be celebratory glasses of wine and chilled limoncello! MEALS BL ASCENT 830M DESCENT 830M DISTANCE 12KM TIME 5-6 HRS WALKING HOURS GPS DATA VIEW NOW Day 8: Departure day. An escorted single timed transfer on public transport to Olbia Airport is included. A single timed escorted transfer on public transport to Olbia airport after breakfast is included. The leader and hotel can organise private taxis for anyone leaving very early or later on in the day. MEALS B Holiday Information What's Included An English speaking local leader Escorted single timed group transfers on public transport to and from Olbia airport on days 1 & 8 All accommodation as described Meals according to the Meal Plan All transport required by the itinerary (excluding optional excursions) What's Not Included Travel insurance Aiport transfers other than group transfers Some meals as detailed in the Meal Plan Tips for local staff Miscellaneous personal spending - drinks & wine etc Meal Plan All breakfasts, 5 lunches and 5 dinners are included in the holiday price. We have not included meals on the free day leaving you to either purchase picnic items from one of the supermarkets or sample a local restaurant. For the final evening we have not included dinner as we have found the overall holiday experience is more enjoyable when the group and the leader decide on a final restaurant together. This also leaves you free to decide on your portion size and budget. Food The hotel restaurant in Dorgali is known for its excellent food and is popular with locals - always a great sign! Sardinian food is a medley of colour and bursting with Mediterranean flavours. Proud of their heritage and history, the food of the island is also hearty, robust and includes a strong Italian influence. Breakfast is usually simple and continental in style - bread, pastries or cakes, yoghurt, jam and honey served with tea or coffee. Lunches will generally be picnic style consisting of bread, cheese, meats, fruit etc. The group will make them up in

PAGE 6 the morning during breakfast and they'll carried throughout the day to be enjoyed at a suitable stopping place. Dinner is a 3 course affair and includes traditional fresh soups, pastas, gnocchi, meat or fishes dishes and vegetables all finished off with something sweet. You will not go hungry in Sardinia! Pulses, lentils, beans, chickpeas and fresh vegetables plus rich tomatoe sauces, all feature stongly in traditional cuisine. The island has an excellent variety of wines which can be enjoyed by the glass or bottle. From rich reds and refreshing whites to the famous dessert wine of Liquoroso Dolce. Sardinians also love their after dinner digestives. Chilled Limoncino and the excellent range of fiery grappas are all worth a try! Joining Arrangements & Transfers A single timed escorted transfer from Olbia Airport to the group hotel is provided on Day 1. This transfer is on public transport and will normally depart in the morning after the arrival of the Easyjet flight from Gatwick. On day 8 the transfer back to the airport will be on public transport in time to check-in for the Easyjet flight back to Gatwick. For anyone arriving outside these times taxis can be picked up outside the airport for the short 20mins journey into the centre. They will cost approximately 15 to 20 Euros depending on the time of day. Alternatively there are public buses that run between the airport and main train station in the centre of Olbia. These buses depart approximately every 15mins, tickets cost a few Euros and can be purchased at the airport. Accommodation On this holiday the group will spend 2 nights in a 3* hotel in Olbia in en-suite rooms on a twin-sharing basis. For the following 5 nights we will stay in a family-run hotel in the small town of Dolgari, also on an en-suite basis. If you are travelling by yourself, you will be paired with another solo traveller of the same sex for the 7 nights. For all hotel nights, single rooms are available for a supplementary cost and are subject to availabilty. Please enquire at the time of booking. Group Leader & Support Staff The week and walks will be accompanied by an English-speaking local leader. Guidance On Tipping Tips do not form part of the wages of local staff but they are very much appreciated. It is important to remember that tipping is voluntary and should be dependent on good service. It is best if the tip is given at the end of the trip by the group as a whole. We recommend that each group member contributes around 10 15 to a group pool and that tips are then distributed between the guide and other support staff as the group feels is appropriate. It is a good idea also to have small change for other tips such as in restaurants or for porters carrying your bags at hotels. Free KE Gift We give you a free gift as a way to thank all our clients who book a KE holiday. Choose from KE T-shirts, buffs, KE trek bags* (where applicable) plus many more. Alternatively you can choose to make a 10 donation to the Juniper Trust Charity. You can make your selection in your My KE account after booking. * A trek bag is not required for this holiday. You can however purchase a KE trek bag for 24.95. Delivery outside of the UK will be charged. Baggage Allowance

PAGE 7 There is no weight limit, other than that imposed by the airline. We ask you to restrict your luggage to one main piece of luggage and one small daypack. You have to carry your own bags for short distances on this holiday and some clients have found wheeled luggage to be more useful on this trip. Group Size & Holiday Status For each holiday there is a minimum number of participants required to enable it to go ahead. Once the minimum number is reached, the trip status will change from 'Available' to 'Guaranteed to run'. You can check the trip status for each departure in Dates and Prices table. Other than in exceptional circumstances, we will not cancel a trip once it has achieved this guaranteed to run status and so you are free to proceed with your international flight booking and other travel arrangements. General Information Passport & Visas A passport with 6 months remaining validity at the end of your stay is generally required for visits to countries outside the EU. The information that we provide is for UK passport holders. Please check the relevant embassy or consulate for other nationalities. It is your responsibility to ensure that you have the correct travel documents and visas for your holiday. Visa requirements and charges are subject to change without notice. If you are travelling outside the EU you should have at least 2 blank pages in your passport for each country that you visit. Visa Europe UK and USA passport holders do not require a visa. Health & Vaccinations You should contact your doctor or travel clinic to check whether you require any specific vaccinations. UK residents should obtain a free European Health Insurance Card (EHIC). This entitles you to state provided medical treatment, but is not a substitute for medical travel insurance which is still vital when travelling overseas. Currency The unit of currency in Europe is the Euro. Electricity Supply & Plug We recommend you check if you require an adaptor for your electrical items at: http://www.worldstandards.eu/electricity/plugs-and-sockets/ Travel Aware As a reputable tour operator, KE supports the British Foreign & Commonwealth Offices' Travel Aware campaign to enable British citizens to prepare for their journeys overseas. The 'Travel Aware' website provides a single, authoritative source of advice for all kinds of travellers and we recommend that prior to travel, all KE clients visit the official UK Government website at travelaware.campaign.gov.uk and read the FCO Travel Advice for their chosen destination. North Americans can also check out the U.S. Department of State website: www.travel.state.gov for essential travel advice and tips.

PAGE 8 KE treat the safety and security of all clients as the most important aspect of any trip we organise. We would not run any trip that we did not consider reasonably safe. Should the FCO advise against travel for any reason, we will contact everyone booked to travel to discuss the situation. We receive regular updates direct from the FCO and are in constant touch with our contacts on the ground. If you have any questions about government travel advice, please call our office. Climate The island of Sardinia has a typical Mediterranean climate with hot, dry summers and coolish winters. The best time to visit is from March to June and from September to October, when temperatures are the most pleasant. At these times of year, daytime temperatures will vary between 20 and 30 degrees centigrade, falling to between 10 and 20 degrees centigrade at night. Books Sardinia Baby - Malachi Bogdanov Sea and Sardinia - D H Lawrence Aurora Me and Sardinia - Terence Dillon The Rough Guide to Sardinia - Robert Andrews Flight Information Flight Inclusive Or Land Only? On our website we display a UK Flight inclusive package price and Land only package price for the majority of our holidays. Flight Inclusive Notes The FLIGHT INCLUSIVE dates and prices are based on UK flights from London Heathrow to Olbia with British Airways. Outbound flights will usually depart from the UK in the afternoon, arriving in the evening of the same day (day 1 of the itinerary). Return flights will depart Olbia in the early evening of the last day of the itinerary, arriving in the UK later the same day. Regional departures and/or alternative carriers are available on request. Please be aware that there are often only a limited number of seats available at the advertised price. To avoid paying flight supplements, we recommend that you book as early as possible, especially during peak times. If we are unable to secure seats at the price shown, or you have requested regional departures, we will contact you with an alternative quote. Please note that you may be asked to pay for your flights in advance of your final holiday balance. Note that if you book a package including flights with KE you will benefit from full financial protection. Land Only Notes We sell this holiday on a Land Only basis and recommend that you book your flights to Olbia International Airport which is the most convenient for transfers to the group hotel. Please refer to Joining Arrangements and Transfers in the trip dossier for further details. If flying from the UK there are a number of low cost airlines offering flights to Olbia. These include Easyjet who have flights from London & Manchester. Other airports may be available. Click on the 'Flight information' link below for further information on booking low cost airlines. Alternatively if you would prefer to book a 'flight inclusive package' using scheduled airlines from the UK please contact our flights department for a quote. Whilst flight prices are likely to be more expensive you will benefit from full financial protection.

PAGE 9 Flights SHOULD NOT be booked until you have received your booking confirmation and the trip is showing 'Guaranteed to Run' or 'Limited'. Flight Options From The US For help and advice with booking your flights, we recommend you consult our friends at Exito Travel, airfare specialists since 1994. The air team at Exito are familiar with our destinations and know the airports, best airlines and potential pitfalls. If there is ever a flight change, cancellation or air-related issue before or during your travels, it's nice to know you have someone on the Exito air team looking after you. Visit their website at: www.exitotravel.com or contact the team on: keadventure@exitotravel.com &/or via phone at: 800.655.4053 ext. 8507. Why Choose KE Adventure Travel? Why Choose KE Adventure Travel? Experience KE has 34 years experience of adventure travel worldwide. All of our holidays are accompanied by an experienced leader, some of whom have worked with KE groups for many years. Many are professional guides and instructors with an unrivalled knowledge of the areas in which they work. In many parts of the world, we recruit local guides with appropriate training and experience. In addition to having the technical skills to ensure your safety, KE expects its leaders to be active members of the group. A leader should be fun to travel with and ready to share with you their enthusiasm for adventure travel and their knowledge of the area. Alongside the group leader, there will be a local support crew, which could be just a driver, or a complete team of guides, drivers, porters, muleherders and cooks. The hard work of our support crews, along with the fascinating insight they can offer into their local culture, is integral to providing you with the very best adventure travel experience. The team of KE office staff is amongst the most experienced in the business, with the proven ability to set up and operate a worldwide programme of adventures. Every one has adventure travel at heart and joins at least one trip a year. It is this depth of experience that makes KE stand out from other adventure travel operators. When you contact KE, by phone or e-mail, or visit our office, you will find the help and advice you need, from someone who has actually done the trip and can give you the benefit of their first-hand experience. KE can guarantee the very best in trek support, excellent food, a good standard of hotel and camp accommodation, plus the back up of one of the most respected companies in the business. Client satisfaction is at the top of our agenda and almost 50% of our bookings each year come from repeat business. If you are looking for adventure then look no further than KE. RESPONSIBLE TOURISM AND AWARDS Responsible Tourism has always fitted naturally with KEs travel ethic. It is important to us that our clients are not the only beneficiaries of the travel experience, but that we share a two-way relationship with the areas that we visit. We make sure that our local staff are well treated and well paid, we respect indigenous cultures, take care to protect the environment and make the most of every opportunity to make a positive contribution wherever we travel. In addition to holding an AITO 5-star Sustainable Tourism rating, we are recipients of AITO s Achievement in Sustainable Tourism Award in recognition of the work carried out over the past 20 years, giving back to the

PAGE 10 communities and areas we visit. We have been awarded Highly Commended status in the Best Tour Operator category of the Virgin Holidays Responsible Tourism Awards, and were named Best Trekking Operator on Earth by National Geographic Magazine, whose criteria included commitment to responsible tourism. We continue to travel responsibly, and more information on our policy, practice, and specific projects can be found at www.keadventure.com, and on the website of our partner charity the Juniper Trust: www.junipertrust.co.uk. KEs Mountain Code is issued to our staff, trek leaders and overseas agents, and we recommend it to our clients, too! Your Complete Financial Protection KE Adventure Travel is a fully licensed and bonded tour operator. We are a member of the Association of Independent Tour Operators (AITO), bonded with the CAA (ATOL 2808) and ABTA licensed (W4341). You can book your trip with KE Adventure Travel in complete confidence that all monies you pay for a trip are fully protected. BOOKING YOUR HOLIDAY Making a Booking The easiest way to make your booking is online. You will need to pay a deposit at the time of booking. This is normally 200 but for some holidays with special permit fees or internal flights, this may be more. The amount of deposit required for an individual holiday is given on the dates and prices page of the holiday. Late bookings will require full payment. We cannot confirm any booking until we receive your fully completed booking form. Adventure Travel Insurance IMPORTANT - It is a condition of joining any of our trips that you are insured against medical and personal accident risks (to include repatriation costs, air ambulance and helicopter rescue services). We also strongly recommend that you take out holiday cancellation insurance, as all deposits paid are non-refundable. Please ensure that your insurer is aware of your KE Adventure itinerary and can agree to cover the activities being undertaken. You will then need to advise us of your policy details and complete an Insurance Declaration Form. CAMPBELL IRVINE DIRECT travel insurance is available to EU residents and will cover the majority of KE Adventure holidays. It has been designed to provide cover for activities normally excluded by other insurers such as trekking, mountain biking and climbing. Please note that certain activities may attract a higher premium. In addition Campbell Irvine Direct cannot provide cover for KE climbing trips above 6000m. Cover for these can be obtained through either the British Mountaineering Council (BMC) or Snowcard. TRAVELEX is a USA based insurer offering travel insurance, which can be used by US citizens and US residents only. KE recommends the "Travelex Select" package for our holidays. If your holiday involves using mountaineering equipment (ropes, harness or crampons), for climbing or glacial travel, you should consider the "Adventure Plus Pak" optional upgrade on the Travelex Select Plan.
