Day 1 ARRIVAL IN SALTA & CITY TOUR Welcome to Argentina! Meet your travel guides at the airport* and head to your hotel in Salta. Check in and go on a 3-hour tour to explore this city, nicknamed 'the pretty one.' Climb the Cerro San Bernardo hill via a cable car ride to see panoramic views. Then visit the beautiful Salta Cathedral, the 18th-century Cabildo, the Plaza 9 de Julio, the Church of San Francisco, the Town Hall, the Museo de Arqueología de Alta Montaña (Archaeology Museum of the High Mountains), and the local handicrafts market. Afterward, return to your hotel. Take the chance to gaze at the beautiful Northwest Argentine skies. Day 2 SALTA TRAIN TO THE CLOUDS This morning, head to Salta s General Belgrano Station to take a scenic tour in Salta: a ride on the Train to the Clouds! Built on a route that was originally constructed to bring goods from the coast of Chile, this route passes 19 tunnels, 29 bridges, many ravines and breathtaking scenery. One of the most interesting aspects of the Train to the Clouds is that it doesn't use brakes. Instead, this railway uses the winding, zigzag route through the mountains to control its speed. Lunch is served onboard, and you'll have the chance to stop at the Andean town of San Antonio de los Cobres. After your 15-hour ride, arrive in the charming Purmamarca, an old town on the foot of the Hill of the Seven Colors. Day 3 HUMAHUACA Take a full-day excursion to the Quebrada de Humahuaca, visiting small prehispanic towns along the way. See the lagoons of Yala, 2000 m above the sea level surrounded by forests of pine trees, the unique Cerro de Los Siete Colores ("Hill of the Seven Colors"), and the Humahuaca Canyon, which was declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO. Admire numerous indigenous villages on the way such as Purmamarca and Tilcara with its impressive prehispanic fortress, the Pucara. Enjoy the lush landscape where the Río Grande flows and where significant archeological beds are found in colorful hills before returning to Salta city.

Day 4 TRANSFER TO CAFAYATE Travel southwards to arrive in Cafayate, a perfect location to explore the Calchaquíes Valleys. Cafayate is also famous for its wines, due to its low humidity and mild weather, with Torrontés its most cultivated grapevine. Head to your hotel where you will spend one night. On your spare time, you can visit one of the wine cellars of the region to take a guided tour (not included). Day 5 TRANSFER TO TUCUMÁN Leave Salta province to enter into historic Tucumán, the smallest province in Argentina. On route, stop to visit the fascinating Quilmes ruins. Take in its labyrinth-like stone constructions and learn about the Quilmes, the largest pre-columbian settlement in the country. Arrive in San Miguel de Tucumán, the province of the country, and head to your hotel to spend your last night in the enchanting Argentine Northwestern region. Day 6 TRAIN FROM TUCUMAN TO BUENOS AIRES Take the train that connects San Miguel the Tucumán with Buenos Aires, the capital city. Train schedules: Departure: Wednesday, 4.16 p.m. Arrival: Thursday, 7.15 p.m. Departure: Saturday, 9.01 p.m. Arrival: Monday, 12.45 a.m.

Day 7 ARRIVAL IN BUENOS AIRES Upon arrival at the train station, meet your guide or driver and head to your hotel. Day 8 BUENOS AIRES CITY TOUR Explore Buenos Aires on a half-day city tour. Visit the traditional tango neighborhoods in the south of the city: La Boca and San Telmo. On the first one, you will find the famous Caminito, boasting colorful houses built by working class Italian immigrants that arrived at the beginning of the 20th century. On the second one, admire the quaint colonial buildings that used to belong to the aristocratic classes, before they moved to the north of the city after the yellow fever epidemic of the mid and late 19th century. Discover the elegance of Recoleta, featuring museums, churches, and restaurants, and finish off at the trendy Palermo, with its fashionable shops, broad plazas, and the alluring mixture of styles of its architecture. Day 9 TIGRE DELTA & TANGO SHOW A short hour and a half ride from Buenos Aires towards the north, entering Buenos Aires province, takes you to a place with beautiful rivers, lush vegetation, and more than 200 bird species: Tigre. Sail through the Parana River delta on a catamaran boat and take in the natural beauty of the area. Learn about the customs and lifestyle of the islanders, with curiosities such as the 'lancha almacén' (grocery boat), which sells goods during certain times of the day. After lunch, return to your hotel in Buenos Aires. In the evening, enjoy an unforgettable dinner & tango show at one of the city's famous tango houses! Note: Tour doesn't operate on Sundays

Day 10 DEPARTURE FROM BUENOS AIRES Your railway tour ends in Buenos Aires. Transfer to the airport for your flight home or to your next Argentina travel destination. South America.travel 2017. All rights reserved. www.southamerica.travel
