ITINERARY DAY 1: RIO DE JANEIRO Your private driver and local guide will collect you from the airport and take you to your hotel overlooking Rio's beaches. DAY 2: RIO DE JANEIRO This morning you will be taken to visit the most famous landmark of the city, the statue of Christ the Redeemer. You will embark on a comfortable train which will climb the mountain, where the statue is located. Then make your way towards the other world famous landmark, the Sugar Loaf Mountain. Both vantage points offer a 360 degree view of the entire city including Botafogo and Copacabana beaches, the Corcovado and downtown Rio. (B) DAY 3: RIO DE JANEIRO Day at leisure with optional excursions to Tijuca Forest to spot wildlife, or perhaps a tour through the favela of Rocinha where contributions go towards the local community. Likelihood is you'll want to spend some time chilling out, either on one of Brazil's famous beaches or shopping at one of her many fine boutiques. (B) DAY 4: RIO DE JANEIRO - PANTANAL SOUTH Fly to Campo Grande this morning and continue overland into the southern Pantanal, arriving at your luxury eco-lodge in the heart of the Brazilian wetlands. Once here you will check in and then have the chance to enjoy an evening walk or game drive giving you your first chance to see the amazing jaguar. (B,D)
DAY 5: PANTANAL SOUTH The Pantanal is home to the most spectacular array of wildlife including 300 species of birds, anteaters, armadillo, capybara, caiman and monkeys. The topography is very flat which makes it much easier to view wildlife than in the confines of the Amazon jungle. It has a diverse landscape of savanna lowlands, seasonal wetlands and rich forest areas. Resident naturalist guides accompany you on fascinating excursions in specially adapted vehicles, on foot and by canoe. (B,L,D) DAY 6: PANTANAL SOUTH Day of wildlife excursions from your lodge. (B) DAY 9: SALVADOR This morning's excursion will allow you to explore the architecture and history of Pelourinho, which is a UNESCO World Heritage site, with your guide. You will then have the afternoon free to enjoy Salvador at your own leisure. (B)
DAY 10: SALVADOR - BOIPEBA ISLAND An overland transfer and ferry takes you to the blissful and largely deserted island of Boipeda, which is one of Brazil's best kept secrets. Here you will find incredible natural beauty, with fragile mangrove and Atlantic rainforest ecosystems, along with its local cultural identity. It has miles of stunning beaches, coral reefs, and a small selection of characterful pousadas where you can stay. (B) DAY 11: BOIPEBA ISLAND Day to relax or enjoy the activities on offer. ACCOMMODATION BOIPEBA ISLAND POUSADA SANTA CLARA The Pousada Santa Clara is located right off the Boca da Barra beach, a 10-minute walk into town, where the Inferno River meets the Atlantic Ocean. There are 12 rooms of various sizes, some with balconies facing the sea, all colorfully painted, private and comfortable, set in a garden of lush tropical plants and flowers. The rooms all have ceiling fans, verandas with hammocks, bathrooms with hot showers, and frigobars. The restaurant serves a hearty breakfast and high quality dinners inspired by a creative chef. Run by a charming owner and staff, this would be our choice of place to stay. PANTANAL SOUTH CAIMAN ECOLOGICAL REFUGE Caiman Ecological Refuge combines conservation with ecotourism and a working cattle ranch. Located in the southern region of the Pantanal, Caiman consists of a two independent lodges offering a similar level of comfort - both have swimming pools, half a dozen air-conditioned rooms and private bathrooms. RIO DE JANEIRO CASA MOSQUITO Casa Mosquito is a lovely boutique hotel with just ten guest suites, each with a private terrace boasting gorgeous views of Copacabana or Ipanema beaches. Each room is equipped with modern amenities and features a theme based on historical characters from Rio culture. The property has a restaurant serving Mediterranean inspired dishes and a small spa. There is also a wonderful rooftop pool and bar. Guests should be aware the hotel is situated up a steepish hill but all in all this is a a great place from which to explore Rio.
