DAY 1 Welcome to California Arrive this afternoon in Fresno, and meet your fellow travelers before transferring as a group to Yosemite National Park. Your journey into the park, through the majestic Sierra Nevada range, will whet your appetite for the coming days. Check in to your hotel, inside Yosemite National Park, and gather for a welcome reception and dinner along with an introductory lecture from your LA Times Expeditions expert, Mark Boster. (R,D) DAY 2 Yosemite Valley Your photographic journey through one of the country s natural wonders begins this morning. Embark on a morning shoot in Yosemite Valley, followed by a valley tram tour, which will acclimate you to your surroundings. Visit Yosemite s most scenic highlights, including El Capitan, the granite monolith towering above the Merced River; Yosemite Falls, the highest waterfall in Yosemite National Park; Bridalveil Fall, which flows year-round; and the geologically distinctive Half Dome. Enjoy the evening at leisure to explore the valley or experiment with sunset photography with the guidance of your expert. (B) DAY 3 Tioga Pass Today, focus on the northern and western regions of the park as you explore Big Oak Flat and its stunning highcountry landscapes, Tioga Pass in particular. At more than 9,000 feet above sea level, Tioga Pass is the highest highway pass in the Sierra. Capture glorious views from this vantage point not traversed by many Yosemitegoers. As you wind your way back to the valley, enjoy a scenic picnic lunch en route. Gather this afternoon for a workshop with your expert before dinner and an evening at leisure. DAY 4 Glacier Point You may think you have experienced Yosemite in all its glory, but Glacier Point is unparalleled. On this halfday tour, you ll travel to the site, an 3,200-foot elevation increase. Keep your camera at the ready, for there will be plenty to capture. From the breathtaking waterfalls, to the magnificent Sierra in the distance, Glacier Point is a photographer s dream destination. This evening, gather for a final discussion with your expert and a farewell dinner. (B,D) DAY 5 Mariposa Grove and Onward Depart this morning for one final shoot on your way back to Fresno. Mariposa Grove, newly reopened from a restoration project in late 2017, is the largest sequoia grove in Yosemite. Capturing the morning light as it shines through hundreds of sequoia will end your expedition on an inspiring note. Continue on to the Fresno airport, and depart on individual flights home or onward. (B) EXPEDITION EXPERT Mark Boster Mark Boster was born and raised in Whittier, Calif. In 1976, he graduated from Cal State Fullerton with a bachelor s in photo/communications. He was a staff photographer for the Whittier Daily News, the San Gabriel Valley Tribune and the Orange County Register before joining The Times in 1983. Through the years, Boster has served as president of the Orange County Press Club and vice president of the Press Photographers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles. Giving back to his alma mater, Boster has been an adjunct professor at Cal State Fullerton for the last 20 years. He has been honored with awards from the Best in the West, the National Press Photographers Assn., California Press Photographers Assn., Orange County Press Club and Press Photographers Assn. of Greater Los Angeles.
